Just came across this video on my suggested feed. This was GREAT. Great synopsis, great content, and great personal feedback on the sports. The comparrisons were spot on, and the depth of knowledge you have seemed really greatly sprinkled thought the video and the clips you shared were great also!

I can’t wait for your bundle of joy to arrive! I love watching your videos as it motivates me to work hard at the gym. I do need to transition from planet fitness to somewhere that has more equipment but I’m job hunting at the moment I can settle for $10 and try most activities

Hunter is deserving of a “wild card”. CrossFit claims “fittest on earth” not “best at CrossFit” he’s put in more work in all different modalities of fitness then most people have their entire life. Hunter has beaten tens and hundreds of crossfitters who wanted to challenge themselves at Hyrox, that alone is enough merit to give him a pass to compete with the “best”. Sure there isn’t a ton of heavy OLY lifting in his training, but that’s not his wheelhouse, as you mentioned running isn’t yours, CrossFit isn’t the end all be all of fitness. Everyone has weaknesses, but fitness shouldn’t be a opinion based discussion

Hyrox is too heavily weighted towards running to be a true test of fitness, therefore the crossfitters he beat in hyrox aren’t necessarily less fit than him, they’re just less good at running and less specifically trained for that one event. Hunter does really well at training for a singular event as he’s shown. I agree that he deserved a wild card, crossfit is a broader test and the best we’ve got to testing the fittest on earth and he got cut early on because he didn’t stack up to some of the elements proving he’s not the fittest. Crossfitters make sure they have no holes in their game at the games level for the test of fitness as it currently stands so things being “not in their wheelhouse” shouldn’t matter because the test is so broad they need to have no holes. For example Laura (current fittest women) struggled with handstand push ups, she could never win because she had one big gap. She filled that hole in her game and won.
Me not being great at running (right now) is irrelevant as I’m an average CrossFitter/hyrox participant and not claiming to be the fittest at anything 😂 I’ve always been more of a barbell athlete than anything else and that’s ok.

Yes fitness is actually a useless word on its own I suppose a better question is, “fittest to do what?”. This is why attempting to define fittest on earth never sat well with me, there are so many different competencies in fitness and attempting to claim either Hyrox or Crossfit is the “best” spread of competencies is just a fools errand… Fittest on Earth(TM) was always a marketing tool anyway.

My impression was that in the Glassman quote, “Broad time domains” means both sprint and endurance style events, the former of which Hyrox misses. “Broad modal domains” you already covered and it seems we agree that Hyrox also doesn’t test a broad enough church of fitness modalities. I prefer CrossFit for its well rounded approach, but would love to try a Hyrox for fun, as they do seem so accessible. CrossFit has just lost its way with giving too much emphasis to fringe and arguably useless skills.

Marathon row was an event a few years ago at the CF games...

Yes, one event. Years ago. Not exactly consistently testing endurance.

Fittest for what? The CrossFit communities self declare that they produce the "Fittest on Earth" for what they do and that is fine but what about Decathletes,Triathletes,Pentathletes,Surf Lifesavers, etc, etc, etc. The argument could go around and around forever. The CrossFit Games are awesome and the athletes are amazing but never forget the "Fittest on Earth" title was created by one guy promoting his business.

Yeah so CrossFit does use elements from those sports too making it a really broad test. There’s lots of surf lifesaving like tests at the games level, sprints and middle distance runs, bike workouts (on actual bikes) including events with transitions between biking running and swimming. So any of those athletes could transition into CrossFit and see if they are the fittest across the rest of the domains. I personally did feel at my fittest when I did triathlon and CrossFit.
But you are right it is just one dude that decided on the definition of the fittest on earth. For his business. I think we need more of a general consensus backed up by science maybe. But for now, CrossFit is in my mind the best test and not any of the others listed or hyrox. But I think something could take its place there’s just nothing that’s a broad enough test yet.

Can you walk on your hands? 10+ meters? 20? No?
Id say its a skill. Pretty impressive one.
Can you snatch your bodyweight? Awesome party trick.
Not testing endurance? Didnt they have a big bike event, and then a 5k run?
What more endurance do you need? Drive the 24h le mans race?
    Jesus.

Your point doesn't even make sense. Of course they are skills...
What more endurance do you need? A fair amount more to claim to test fitness, not just one random test every so often.

      @sportybeth  8 месяцев назад

Additionally just because you like something, it doesn't make it a good way to claim to test fitness 😂

      @@sportybeth yeah, exactly
A 5k run (or 4572meters, trololo) and 30min off road biking is plenty to see endurance, its not a sprint in either case
I dont think its valid to say cf does not test endurance

think crossfit needs to bring in more endurance cardio workouts

Its a completely different thing to like an actual endurance event, sure workouts like that are gassy...but its not endurance or that cardio bias. Being out of breath doing something doesn't automatically means its a good test of CV fitness.

Cool event but i don't think its aim is to test fitness.
