my gf saved two diamondback terrapins from being made into turtle soup in 1976 here in NYC. They are still alive in her apt. The zoos tell us they've never heard of this species being kept alive so long in an apt. Topaz is the smaller male, Zinger the larger female. Believe me they both have strong personalities and tell my gf exactly what they want. Basically their days consist of eating, sleeping, swimming in the sink and tub and usually in the summertime when it's warm they walk all around the apt.
Some additions---It is now illegal to sell them for soup. When my gf told the salesman at the seafood store she wanted to keep them as pets he gave her a good price. $1 for the male and $2 for the female. They love to hide from us, especially under the couch which has a covering that goes all the way down to the floor so we can't see them, but they can peek at us if they want to. So cute! Zinger has actually laid eggs a few times but by the time we saw them they were broken. So eventually we got an incubator and got the eggs before they were broken but we had no luck hatching them.

FRT tips. No catfish or plecos . No Sharp rocks or wood if the damage the shell from any of the above ^^^^^ they will get a bad fungal then game over!
