Tennant coming back was the plan before Ncuti was even cast, if Catherine Tate didn't ask RTD if she and David could come back one more time we wouldn't have RTD back as showrunner

Now this might be me speculating too much but I like the idea that this bringing back the toy maker opens the door for more great old ones like fenric or even the word lord

Hi, i can’t wait for doctor who’s 60th birthday. i’m 54 years old so i grew up with doctor who the first doctor i ever saw was the 3rd incarnation played by Jon Pertwee. I love David Tennant in doctor who he is what i imagined the doctor to be which is one of the reasons i love his doctor. David Tennant is such an amazing actor. He brings each character he plays to life so effortlessly. His regeneration as 10 still haunts me no matter how many times i re-watch it i still cry so i have to brace myself for another regeneration. I wish he was back for more than three episodes. I’m not just saying David Tennant is the perfect doctor because we’re both Scottish but because it’s true in my reality. 0:12 Donna is my fave human companion ever in doctor who so it’s great to have her back. i’m looking forward to what Ncuti brings to the table as the doctor hopefully he’s much much better than Jodie’s doctor. I hated her version she spoiled the show for me but i loved the master as missy much better performance. roll on 23rd November 2023 doctor who’s official birthday. (doctor who first started on 23rd November 1963) Take care 😘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Donnas departure from the series has always been my favourite due to its absolutely tragic nature. Now, it’s lovely to see her back looking lost and kicking arse BUT I feel the only way to bring her back without cheapening the original exit will be to kill her! Which sounds a bit of a bummer for a 60th celebration! The trailer did look rather swish 😁

I think it’s more likely to be The Doctor having to die to save her, accepting that he has to let go and move on from this face to keep her alive, unlike last time where he held on as long as possible because he was lonely and traumatised by what happened to her, causing him to almost go bad like The Master.

I guess if the Doc’ sacrifices a life so Donna can keep her memories, that would be dramatically satisfying. But part of me still wishes they hadn’t touched this old storyline. I am willing to have my fears proven wrong tho’, and the trailer does look good

I am certainly excited about the excitement. Doctor Who feels refreshed.
I wonder why was Jodie's run just so .... quiet?
Keen to see where it goes, even if it goes belly up. The only things which irked me was shot of NPH with the strings and the design of Unit looking like the Avengers tower.
Overall, the trailer got me very excited. It does feel visually interesting to see 10th Doctor in contemporary TV visuals.
It feels a little bit grey, a little bit Marvelish. But I feel like Doctor Who, is constantly a reflection of the times and the television tropes.

imo jodie's run was so quiet because the writers made her so neutral and bland in character compared to previous doctors. we never really saw her charged on either end of the emotional spectrum, she's probably the first nuwho doctor we never saw in anger or true despair, being pushed to her limits as a character emotionally. similarly her bond with her companions were characterized by distance and walls around her where she never actually let them in in meaningful ways we've seen before. like they spent a whole season with her before she even told them she was a time lord. they never really knew much about her even on a factual level, least of all something with depth. overall i think it was emotional resonance that was missing the most from her era, which carried over to the fandom too. i mean, there's nothing much to be excited about if the sci-fi stories are lackluster and even the emotion is missing from your series. at least, that's just my take.

I share your concern that it will lean a bit too much into Series 4, but at the end of the day it’s Doctor Who and I’ll enjoy it surely 😂

Can't wait for a good portrayal of the Toymaker on screen. Despite his serial being pretty bad, he's always had a lot of potential, and so far I've listened to a couple of Big Finish audios that did him well. The shots I've seen have me excited for that.
(Btw the Twitter account confirmed officially that NPH is the Toymaker, so even though we've pretty much known it for a while and this trailer made it more obvious than ever, there's definitive proof)

Ah, putting this together and spending less time on Twitter meant I missed the announcement of NPH being the Toymaker... but yes, it wasn't particularly unexpected by anyone!

Series 4 and 5 are my favourites of Nu Who and Donna is my all time favourite companion but Tennant is outside my top 3 doctors. So it’s nice to see a continuation of the storyline from series 4 (not a rehash) and RTD is a master at the overarching storyline and character development(just some of his individual episodes can be a bit ropey). So I have no problems with the focus being where we are and it will be great to see how the Toymaker and UNIT feature (at the very least as being representative of the 60s, 70s and 80s) There is bound to be more but I am happy to be surprised with what we get and avoid anticipointment. Though if we got the Meep song!!

I dont know, as a post production person i always appreciated how doctor who had its own aesthetically unique look now with its new cinematic look i feel it's lost it's unique niche look and it now looks more like all TV shows out there especially with how Units new HQ obviously been rented from Tony Stark i mean you can up the budget but still keep it's unique look.
Maybe this is only being done for the 60th Anniversary specials but if it's going to be like this for the rest of the series i think the unique British and worlds longest longest running Sci-Fi series has fded into the background with looking like the rest now. I will watch the series to see how i feel but this is a huge concern for me.

    • @kingp260
      @kingp260 11 месяцев назад +1

Most of that “look” is due to low budget.
Doctor Who has got money from Disney now so budget is no longer an obstacle.

8:49 "Maybe I've come to terms with the fact that the 60th anniversary might not be exactly what I was hoping for"
Hit the nail on the head there, I'm in precisely the same boat. I heartily disagree with what I'm seeing, I don't like the direction it's taking, but it is what it is. And what it is looks to be some cracking good Doctor Who, whether or not I'm on board with the large-scale creative decisions.

    Nice video and breakdown.
I feel like this doctor could be like a "simulation" incarnation of sorts (as in he is an actual incarnation, but the Toymaker stepped in between Jodies transition in Gatwa and plopped this in between incarnation into his playground reality) and could go out in a few ways. One: he goes out in a "taking the toymaker with him" approach, which causes this fake reality to collapse, snapping thr Doctor back into Gatwa's incarnation. Two, he defeats the Toymaker, gets gravely injured while trying to escape this reality, and regenerates right after escaping. Assuming the Doctor is actually trapped in an alternate reality, that is.

i think people will survive if 3 special episodes will lean into a previous, inarguably mass fan favorite era/season. the show has done a lot more criminal things in the past few years than dabbing into some golden era nostalgia now for a few episodes. at least i think most would agree with that since what i've been seeing people all around me and my closest friends from across fandoms have been doing dw rewatches and catch-ups all year around just to come back to these specials. the promise of getting a bit of a s4 nostalgia is exactly what's luring people back even beyond just the audiences who dropped the series because of the chibnall stretch.
maybe people disagree with this take but imo it's exactly what's gonna revitalize the series again and will give ncuti a relatively clean slate and a positive note with a better position to start on with a lot of audiences returning to the show with this smart lure. because beyond just people wanting to see tennant/tate from what i gathered most of those people are also excited to have rtd as a writer back and are hopefully curious about just enough things about the whats and hows of his writing to stick around and see how it all unfolds with ncuti, who is a very promising choice for the doctor. i think tennant and tate should be very much appreciated for reprising their roles at this time, as popular favorites who returned to do that for the show at the exact time it needed an audience lure the most. i am very hopeful we'll be getting a lot of good things all across the board, both from the specials and ncuti's future run.

I would REALLY like to see David Bradley as 1 in this, facing the toymaker again. Maybe when, in the original story, he gets dematerialized and his hand is left behind, the rest of his body was pulled into this story? I just think RTD can write 1 way better than Moffat did

I never really rated Tennant as the Doctor and as time has gone on he's become the only Doctor I actually hate 😐😐😐 I'll give the 60th one plus in that it has stayed away from rolling out the Time Lords, Daleks, Time War, Cybermen, The Master etc again 🧐🤓
