    I was looking for a trailer to rent one way from Detroit Michigan to Memphis Tennessee and saw your video and Rented this exact model and towed with my Jeep Grand Cherokee with no problems. Trailer looks small but holds quite a bit of stuff and was perfect for my needs and For only $145 it was a great value. I’m glad I found your review and couldn’t have been happier I rented this trailer. Thanks 😊

  • @playlist55
    @playlist55 2 года назад +1

    If you rent in the Midwest, let the buyer beware. U-Haul is really the only game in town. The rental sites don't carry everything you might need. Makes sense to not have all that equipment sitting around. But, I was required to go pick up my trailer an hour away, which meant I was driving it back to where I needed it using one hour of my rental time. Even though I was told I could return it back to my U-Haul in my town... They said they didn't want it and made me take it back an hour away again. So, they make you transport their equipment on your time and your dime. It is what it is, just be aware. So much for Customer service.

    I agree, theu do pull well and are well made however, pulling an empty one was a nightmare, the bouncing and weaving. I could tell that it was behind me.
    I ended up buying a 5x8 Interstate cargo trailer and when pulling empty, I can not tell it is behind my truck. No weaving and no bouncing.

  • @SilverSurfer17
    @SilverSurfer17 6 лет назад +1

    Good deal man, I never realized the qualities of their trailers. I’ve seen someone towing a UHaul trailer and get a little bit of whiplash before, it looked like a miserable drive. I just started hauling steel with TMC they gave me a covered wagon, pretty much all brand new equipment, new tarp which needs to be broken in. It’s way better than tarping though.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 лет назад +2

      Yeah they build these things to last! The way it's loaded and the weight of the vehicle has a huge impact of how this trailer pulls, you know that though! I was pulling a good 75mph and she towed smooth. Tarping sucks, but most drivers get a little bit of extra money for tarping the load though. What kind of truck are you running?

    • @SilverSurfer17
      @SilverSurfer17 6 лет назад

      crazyjdkid TMC runs 579 Pete’s with sleepers & 388 day cabs. They’re both pretty nice, not my first choice in a truck ( I really love the old school look on older trucks ) but they have stacks which is a little more old school. 579s were designed very well. They run the Cummins X15 engine & a lot now run disc brakes. The newer Fontaine trailers run disc, unfortunately mine does not. I’ve got some pictures if you want to add me on FB & check them out though. Just let me know.

    • @SilverSurfer17
      @SilverSurfer17 6 лет назад +1

      crazyjdkid Yeah tarping really does suck but I got to pick and choose where I wanted to work and being in Columbus ohio there is a massive variety of freight going through and coming out of the area. I was able to get to haul dedicated steel and they run covered wagons so I don’t have to tarp at all. I’m really lucky to get the opportunity

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 лет назад +2

      Pete's a good truck, especially for a fleet truck! I haven't much from the industry on the X15 yet, I do know there is a Efficiency build and a Performance build. But Cummins doesn't screw up very often so I'm sure its a good engine. I believe it is very similar to the ISX. Those disc brakes are great in heavy duty applications because they rarely need any maintenance. I had an engineering buddy of mine work for Fontaine Trailers as a weld engineer and had him weld some aluminum projects up for me, he had some of the cleanest welds I had ever seen. My favorite truck of all time, my dream truck, is a Kenworth T800 with like a Series 60 or C15. You can message me you FB info if you would like.

    • @SilverSurfer17
      @SilverSurfer17 6 лет назад

      crazyjdkid Well, I don’t know a lot about all different truck engines yet, im still learning but from what I hear about these newer Engines, the Cummins is one of the best. Potentially the best you can get in these new Pete’s. Detroit is only on Freightliners, which are nice but in the trucking industry most guys don’t want Freightliner like everybody else. The other option that these Pete & KW trucks have is the PACCAR engine which from I hear is awful. I’m not sure if there are any other options but all these drivers tell me the X15 is what I want.
      KW T8s are very nice, Detroit 60 would be a dream come true. One of these days it’s my goal to drive a truck with a nice C15 in it. I love the sound of CATS or those 60 Series Detroit’s. Wish I could get a rig with one.
      Yeah the disc brakes are nice because if DOT wants to inspect my truck all they need to see is that I have disc brakes and they don’t have to check anything. Same with doing pre trips. With drum brakes however, they take longer to inspect & don’t operate as nice as the disc brakes. Wish the trailer had the but it’s an older Fontaine, only TMCs brand new Fontaines have them.

    I remember the $30 prices, but now the same trailer goes for $680 (interstate move) and you have it for 6 days. There are no options to get cheaper if you know you will only need for 2-3 days.
    Inflation is back to normal levels (2%) but makes no difference to the price, and the supply and demand is likely the same. Price gouging plain and simple.

    Uhaul should add led headlights,led back lights,led marker lights.led is better than halogen lights.the thing I like about uhaul trucks is that the seats are comfortable,and I like the idea of how uhaul put reflective tape on the trucks,it makes the truck visibile at night.if I was moving to house to house I'll rent a Penske or ryder truck with a lift gate.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 лет назад

      I believe most Uhual marker lights are LED, and the lights are on a light sensor. The seats are comfortable! But the competition can be as well depending on how its spec'ed when ordered. You can even get air ride on the competition, Uhual doesn't offer any trucks with air ride. All the trucks I have rented, no matter the brand, has had reflective material on the back. Thanks for watching!

    Moving from GA to Las Vegas, NV. Do you think my 2018 4runner can handle this trailer? The drive is like 2000 miles. First time using uhaul trailer. Any tips?

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  5 лет назад

      Yes! A 4Runner should be just fine with this trailer. Pack it how they show in the diagram by distributing the weight. Also, ensure to inspect it very well when you pick it up to esure you get it with good tires. Good luck and safe travels!

    Yay, it's been in my state in where you definitely need the "enclosed" feature these days !! Welcome to North Carolina, The State Of Rain !! Hey man, I started to mention it previously but wanted to confirm further. Has anybody ever told you you sound and talk a lot like the actor Jesse Eisenberg ? I'm sure you've probably seen a movie he was in. Just curious

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  5 лет назад

      I have been to NC numerous times! I've done a lot of volunteer work in rural Madison County. But I have spent a lot of time in Asheville too.I honestly had to look up who Jesse Eisenberg was, never heard of him! I can see where yours coming from though. I speak a little different on camera than I do in real life, as I always am trying to remember things to say but sometimes they get jumbled! Thanks for watching!

    • @Stucknarutt
      @Stucknarutt 5 лет назад

      I know what you're saying buddy. You do fine. Jesse Eisenberg's a cool actor in my book. 1st and probably best role I saw him play was Mark Zuckerberg in "The Social Network", 2010. You talking, reminded me more of "ZombieLand" I think though. I'm in NO WAY affiliated with any of it and not trying to promote a dang thing, just saying.

    • @Stucknarutt

      NC sucks these days but much appreciate your volunteer work. We've had our share of disasters in the last few years with seemingly no end in sight as we're about to get another 3 to 4" of rain we really can't stand. Thanks brother. Let me know if you come to NC. Still gotta make a quick vid on my truck to show you. Peace

    When bringing home from uhaul pickup location the trailer would be empty right. So to bring it with no weight, is it safe.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 лет назад +3

      Yes, of course! It can be pulled just fine empty. It will bounce around and jump a lot when it hits bumps, but nothing to be concerned about!

    I am driving from FL to CA with a Jeep. I want to stop for 1-2 days to visit some cities (NOLA,Dallas, Grand Canyon, LA, etc.) and am wondering if I can safely unhitch at the hotels and lock the trailer so nobody can pull up with a tow hitch and take it away. What do you recommend? Thanks for the great video.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  4 года назад

      Its actually a breach of contract if you unhitch the trailer. Most places now days would have places where you I can park larger vehicles. Think about all the people with RVs that go explore. Unless your getting the largest trailer it probably won't be too difficulty to navigate any of those places with it connected

    • @alwaysroaming1244
      @alwaysroaming1244 3 года назад

      Plus, there's no tongue jack on the smaller trailers, correct? Therefore, I'm assuming it makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to lift it on and off the hitch ball with the trailer loaded.

    Thanks for the great video. We are likely going to rent a 5x8 UHaul trailer for a trip from AZ to KS. I see it says "Speed Limit 55" - should this be followed? You mentioned all the many warning labels on the trailer, so maybe this is just another one. Please tell me if a person can drive the normal speed of 70-75 mph. Will be pulling with a Lexus 400 SUV. Thanks! Any comments/suggestions are appreciated!

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  2 года назад

      No saying you should or shouldn't as there is some liability there. But if you vehicle is of decent weight these trailers will tow smoothly well over 55mph without issue.

      MRJOHNDEERE3720 yeah they are handy for sure! I dont know how I would feel with pulling one around with a front wheel drive car! I have seen people do it though! My truck weighs a bit shy of 3 tons and is 4x4, loaded you can definitely feel it back there especially the 6x12. My knuckles would be white if I was pulling one of these with a little car.

      Yeah I always feel sketched, I was driving out west and saw a BUNCH of sedans and crossover cars hauling the tiny Uhaul trailers. Thought it was kind of weird. I have no reason to haul but I would like a vehicle with 4WD rather than my FWD 4 Cylinder Hyundai lol it’s awesome on gas though.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 лет назад +1

      People do crazy things! The truck in the video pulling it gets about 9-10 mpg when its towing, so I can only go about 200 miles before filling up which kind of sucks. I am kind of heavy on the throttle though when towing, just so I am not a traffic hazard. It doesn't feel this 5x8 trailer back there, but it lugs down a bit with a fully loaded 6x12. Its a Honda though, so it enjoys the abuse!

    • @SilverSurfer17
      @SilverSurfer17 6 лет назад

      crazyjdkid Yeah that’s a nice pickup. I don’t know what my next vehicle will be. I don’t drive my car a lot anymore now that I’m driving around but I’m home more than a large majority of drivers. I kind of want a pickup but really enjoy the fuel mileage on my Hyundai.

    Unless your using the break equpiied trailer long distance drives need a break equipped trailer, with suspension and a break controller. I learned the hard way that these will eat up your breaks very quick.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  5 лет назад

      Depends on what you are pulling it with. Most trucks have oversized brakes so it shouldn't be too much of an issue for a truck such as the one in the video.
