I remember being told about hushpuppi and remarking that the investors I know don't flash that much and if the money he "flashes" is legit(legitimately earned and after tax)then he must the making a killing in the real estate and investment market and if he was I'd have heard of him from those circles. Sad thing is,many youths in Nigeria had him as a role model,a lot of us guessed his wealth wasn't legit but the people didn't care one bit. Tragic really, the need for validation from strangers people have.

The guy actually posed AS my dad and the idiot sent the $100K without calling to confirm the legitimacy of the invoice... My dads company bit the bullet even though it was their mistake for sending $100K w/o validating it

This did happen to the closing firm we used to sell a house. 150k gone because we did that transaction by email (we were overseas). We had to fight to get our money back (insurance). They simply took control of the outlook email account of that firm and played really good. They will send email from the official address of the business and will make a similar email when send email from the “client” side. They are really good and worldwide!

This isn't the case with 3rd world countries. They're trapped. Unable to go anywhere. Like a country sized prison.

This is very true. And not just a tourist visa, even student visas are sometimes denied because the interviewer thinks the student may not return to their trash country. It's that messed up.
Some of my family is back in india, and they tell me lots of these things, some of which actually happened to them.
To think they have to go through an interview (which is more like an interrogation) like a freaking criminal or something just to leave the country is insane.
But rich folk will never do what you said. Because they themselves aren't interviewed or even if they are, it's often just a light set of questions of where they're going and they're allowed to.
It's mostly the poor ones they (the country itself and the one they're trying to go to) don't allow to leave. This is a whole thing it seems, to keep poor people poor in their own countries, so that they can be utilized as cheap labor over there and make our countries richer. It won't happen if they allow poor people to actually have a chance and make their lives a bit more respectable and livable.
I don't wanna sound ungrateful here, since I enjoy those very privileges, but something is very wrong when it's this bad. It didn't used to be just a decade or two ago.

This proves that no matter how smart he was with his scamming, he was stupid enough to believe that the law was not tracking him. People like him maybe understand phishing but not human nature.
if you flex around 100 people there is that 1 guy who will take this personally. So much so that he will want to find any dirt there is about you. There are envious and vindictive people who have no other business than trying to bring people who flex down. So one of these people was somoene from his hometown who knew him from before and alerted the authoritries to keep an eye on him, or it was a guy who was just collecting info about him by X-raying every single picture he posted or every single word he wrote.
FBI had no idea about this guy until somoene pointed him out to them. That somoene we all have in our lives. in his case it could have been a guy that he washed cars together with.
That's why we had a saying in my country "dont take the easy way to make money because they're just like a wind you'll lose everything."

I remember him being the big craze in dubai cuz he just showed up out of nowhere and was buying out the most expensive stuff.
He was walking around the Dubai Mall with one of those hotel luggage trolleys and would fill it up with luxury items (pushed around by a porter of course).
Everyone just found it entertaining but was questioning where his money was coming from. I remember him posting on his Snapchat a document showing his “real estate” business but we all knew it was fishy.
Salutes to the FBI and Dubai Police for catching these bastards.
Edit: yes he had quick cash but by no means is he considered “wealthy” in Dubai. I know it sounds crazy but he was more of a source of entertainment for the people in Dubai than inspiring, like watching a circus act.

The country does try its best to take care of its citizens and residents. You can say that the citizens will be ensured to not starve, have a shelter, have education, have accessible healthcare, government aide etc.
But again there are plenty of other countries that provides the same thing.
However, most of those countries provide benefits to their citizens through tax and usually very high taxes (income tax).
The UAE does not have that as of 2022 other than a 5% VAT and a future 9% corporate tax coming in 2023.
It can be safe to say that without asking for income tax and providing very high standards for citizen benefits, the UAE is certainly among the best in this field with their benefits so good that it almost looks like the citizens are by default rich.
What about the foreigners? Foreigners benefit by not having to pay any taxes at all for now. The UAE also just announced a salary insurance from the government for everyone, not just citizens.
You pay $25 every year and you will be paid 60% of your base salary for a certain amount of months for you to find another job if you had been fired. Again, this is without asking for anything from the people other than a small VAT tax and a small corporate tax thats coming soon.
The UAE is a very progressive country, the media does tend to criticize it (like everything else) but if you do try to settle down in Dubai you will experience it yourself. Loving community, safety (you can walk outside alone at 3AM without worry), many opportunities etc.
I understand how Dubai can be seen as this snobbish place where everything is so flashy and gold, but this is mainly generated by the vast amount of social media influencers there (the luxury car rental business is booming in Dubai to say the least). There really is more to it.

The entire oil industry is owned by the government, there’s no such thing as an “oil tycoon” in the UAE.
In return the people there get to have benefits without paying tax.
Manual labor is managed by private companies but the country has set laws for them. There’s an entire court of justice for labor in case there’s a problem.
The most recent example would be the construction of the Expo 2020. Unfortunately there were I believe 7 work related deaths and they have been acknowledged and compensated for, but salaries, living conditions and everything else was delivered rightfully on time alongside a monument and memorial built for the workers.
Domestic workers such as housemaids used to have issues, so the government just took over and have strict regulations over the job field.
Times are changing my friend, but hey I guess some people just don’t like seeing the UAE succeed.
