Thank you so much for this video. I'm doing my GCSEs right now and this has really opened my eyes to the probelms with the healthcare system right now. I am very dedicated to working towards a career in medicine but I'm afraid about how competitive it is.
Thank you for watching! It certainly is quite competitive, from trying to get a place in medical school all the way to the later stages of post-graduate training, and unfortunately it appears that this is only increasing. Hopefully the video gave you some questions to reflect on to help with your choice. Good luck with the GCSEs 🍀
Thank you for this. I’m a 20yr old wanting to study medicine at med school because I want to be there to make a difference in peoples lives. I’m starting with no qualifications. I’m both excited and nervous to start this journey!
Hey Hiba, could I talk to you about my own personal situation regarding med school. I think it would be really helpful to talk to someone who is a foundation year doctor.
I have mixed feelings as there are days I love the job and other days that I find quite difficult. Particularly getting used to rotational work I’ve found hard. It is also at times demoralising due to the general decline of the NHS. I think I need to give it some more time as I am very early on in my medical career. However I most certainly would be looking to go less than full-time & will be doing things outside of med to stay well-rounded!
I have spoken about this in some of my previous videos! Please have a look at the applying to medicine playlist. Any unanswered Qs I’m happy to answer! ☺️
I would try to diversify your skills and ensure you are building a CV with components outside of medicine as well, so that you have a plan B if you need it.

damn working as a doctor sucks i guess in the uk! im a first year med student in the uk. Anything you wish you would do if you were in my position?
I would try to diversify your skills and ensure you are building a CV with components outside of medicine as well, so that you have a plan B if you need it.
Also consider if you’d want to move abroad and look up the pathways/exams for this if you do
Decided that I’m not going to medicine. Less pros than cons.
