I had the opportunity to visit zuidam last month. Very interesting experience as we were shown pretty much everything by Patrick, tasting some of their oldest whisky as a superb ending to the afternoon. I’m very taken by their rye, while I find their younger whisky is quite distinctive with a lot of licorice and spices and the older whisky is absolutely stunning (seldom had a whisky where the development continued even during the finish). Tried the recent dràm mòr release as well and that was very nice too.
This really is a lovely horizontal lineup you gave us Greg, these days all their whisky is of course 46% or higher. I’ll throw in a few of their jenever samples in the package I’m preparing for you.
P.s. I remember Patrick saying they source their peated barley from Scotland (the Dutch market being too small, and without a decent demand of peated barley it would be hard for local producers to make it profitable), but for their unpeated barley they grow their own barley and also source locally.

Greg I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this impressed with a brand. That Rye and 12 year Single Malt sound fabulous!i definitely think these are worth looking for. Very sad about Big Al may he rest in peace. Cheers buddy have a very happy and merry Christmas 🎄 🥃

Hi Antonio, good to hear from you...Well since the video (please read Menno's comment- "Malty Mission" is his handle-as he add precious infos as he recently visited the distillery, the link of video report of the channel I added in the description is worth looking to production wise, as they have interesting demanding methods. Impressed wise, well, very true (I ve rarely seen such high quality sherry nowadays but also the rye, etc...), but you might see me smile too in one or two Springbank videos, for instance, or Japanese Yoichi ones ! Cheers & Merry Christmas to you & to your family, my friend ! 🥳🥃

So awesome you got the chance to try these releases. I really enjoy Millstone, especially their rye. The extra papaya fruit is so good. I would agree, close to those first releases of Lot 40 cask strength. Yes, fireworks!!

Hey hi Jon, happy & relieved we're on the same page about the rye ! Can't wait to get me a bottle of this & of the Oloroso....So does it mean you get Millstone in your country/state ? if so it's great, I'm glad for you. Cheers & many thanks for your feedback !

Nice one mate. I only tried the PX peated and I was not impressed. There was so much old tire air and rubber notes. But it seems I need to try some more. The sherry one you described seems great. Love the sample set. Looks really professional.

Thanks, Gert, it's always interesting to get different feedbacks, I did a bit of research after having recorded the video & saw that it seems there is a lot of batch variations over the years & on a lot of references, and varied opinions on Whisky Base too, so I hope to get me a good one some day regarding the 2 expressions I prefered here. Samples box wise, my friend bought it at the distillery for me as i understood it, Cheers !

Thanks for watching & yeah that one was a killer (but it is an old batch) but I'll do an update on my channel as i'll be ordering a bottle soon & probably receive some more recent samples in between, Cheers !

Interesting reviews will give them another go. Only have experience with their peated releases and was not that impressed. Maybe the rye or sherry 12yo are different.

Thanks, it seems there are batch variations on some, but those 2 you mention were (at least those batches) spectacular & putting to shame a lot of big Scottish names currently on the market, so I hope you'll find some good ones, Cheers !
