MetalJesusRocks I agree, I rarely find interviews I’m interested in! And the OG Xbox story is a very VERY great story! If I had to pick my favorite console story it’s that one. They took a chance much like Sony but unlike Sony it wasn’t revenge but so that they can make a statement lol
What an amazing interview. I never knew Ed to be such an integral figure. Ryan earned himself a fan. I personally can not stand IGN, so I've not seen much of him. I hope he branches off an does his own personal coverage. But Ed, thanks for being the heart at Microsoft. The original Xbox will always have a place in my heart and childhood, and you had a hand in shaping that. Thank you.
As an Xbox fan, this was a fantastic interview. It's great to hear insider bows on the origins of the console and the people around it. Well done Ryan. I look forward to more....keep it Xbox though!
Awesome interview. Nice job to both Ryan and Ed. I love to hear about the history of the video games. I'm also going to plug IGN's NVC interview with one of the lead programmers of what was formerly Factor 5. That is awesome video game history as well.
Just watched this amazing interview. I'm so curious to know who said "And what about Sony?" at the Valentine's Day Red Wedding. He might have well defined the last 20 years of console history with that question.
Quite fun to have the Sony logo on the TV sets in the background in every close up of Ed. But the interview was great, and Ed sounds like such a great man.
John Sorrentino At 7 yrs old My family did the same with Halo CE. We would do Team Red(Adults) vs Team Blue(6-14 yrs old) and I remember we(Blue team) we're quiet compared to other kids like the Gamecube owners who would yell and scream at a game constantly like a bunch of apes.
Great interview and really interesting story. I always liked to listen to stories behind big companies strategics and how decision making got them to the final products
It's wrong to say that the PS4 is basically an Xbox 360, a comparison that's maybe used to hark back to the one time that Microsoft were in the lead for most of that particular generation, and sidestep any questions about Xbox One's performance this generation, and the questions it raises about the future for Microsoft in gaming. In reality, the Xbox 360 used a three core hyperthreaded version of the PPE used in the Cell processor. Where Xbox One and PS4 are based around the x86 architecture, Xbox 360 and PS3 were both based on the Power PC architecture.
Microsoft has some 60+ great franchises. I'm not sure why they arnt making/announcing new mech assult, viva pinyata, allen wake, azura, blood wake, night caster, conker, perfect dark, banjo, and other such games
FYI - Anytime a person being interviewed is claiming to be the only voice or reason in a room of people all thinking or voting the other way - your can be 99.9% sure they are lying.
+Marcus McKinney In interviews they said they didn't like the working environment and were unhappy Microsoft kept the Halo IP. They previously only made games on Mac and had lots of issues with finance.
not really funny - as they had them for about 10 years with massively successful Halo and then let them leave when they really wanted to. Of course after that they would go milti console. Most dev's want that sweet, sweet multi-platform money. Also, to claim the from interviews that "Bungie" didn't like "Microsoft" is a gross oversimplification of the situation (based on everything I have heard and read about the years one owned the other) - btw, Bungie never had to say yes to being bought in the first place. I also find it amusing they expect MS to let go of the Halo franchise. MS never wants that franchise on someone else's platform, and doesn't want to have to wait around for Bungie to be ok with making the next one.
+BINARYGOD All behind closed doors so we obviously receive the politically correct version of the info. Bungie made damn well sure though with Destiny they would keep it after the 10 years are up. By that time the studio will be very different anyway I suppose.
These are some of the best interview videos on RUclips. Great stuff!

Hey, Metal Jesus! I'm happy to see your comment!
I'm so glad Ryan does this show. One of the best pieces of content on IGN.
I agree
Thanks for the kind words. Share the video with your friends!
I watched the whole thing and thought Ryan was a great interviewer. Ed is so interesting and lucky!
I want to see him interview dan and Sam housner
What an amazing interview. I never knew Ed to be such an integral figure. Ryan earned himself a fan. I personally can not stand IGN, so I've not seen much of him. I hope he branches off an does his own personal coverage.

This guy is fascinating.
Chris Ray Gun hello there
As an Xbox fan, this was a fantastic interview. It's great to hear insider bows on the origins of the console and the people around it.
Well done Ryan. I look forward to more....keep it Xbox though!
This was very cool and fascinating to watch. I love the Original Xbox and getting to hear more about that console is awesome. Thank you Ryan and IGN.
I could listen these interviews the whole day.
Great interview, also dont visit IGN much these days, but these kinds of down to earth interviews with industry leaders are awesome.
Excellent interviewer. Awesome developer speedrun reactions. Resubscribing. The honesty melts your face.
Yet again a great interview
Great interview, please keep letting Ryan do these! Shout out to the whole team behind unfiltered, I'm sure they don't get enough credit
What an amazing interview and interviewee

Best of IGN shows. I love you Ryan for doing this. Keep up the awesome work.
awesome interview please keep them coming
Wow, this is Gold. Bravo!
What a fantastic guy, that was really insightful and people could learn a lot about principles from people like Ed Fries. Inspiring stuff.
Ed Fries is awesome. Loved his interviews on Matt Chat and John's Arcade, and this too was pure gold.
Ryan, I love these interviews. Please keep them going.
This man is an inspiration, what a great guy!
Just watched this amazing interview. I'm so curious to know who said "And what about Sony?" at the Valentine's Day Red Wedding. He might have well defined the last 20 years of console history with that question.
Sweet episode I can't wait for next month episode
Quite fun to have the Sony logo on the TV sets in the background in every close up of Ed. But the interview was great, and Ed sounds like such a great man.
AWESOME interview!
Great interview and show!
I love those interviews!!! :-D
Bravo Ryan another great guest, awesome tidbit about Phil, just proves he is the right guy at the helm of xbox
Great interview!!
What a great interview. This guys is willing to work and easy going, that's why he always get what he wants.
Great story, now i know something many wish they knew.. Thank You IGN.
Come BACK to XBOX WE NEEDS YOU AND BUNGIE JOIN US
This interview is fantastic. Great content.
This is utterly fascinating video game history. Thank you to both of you gentlemen.
The original Xbox and Halo CE....now that was nostalgia. System link, a few TVs, friends, no screaming 13 year olds....miss that.
I'm 25 and I still rage 😂. I was that brat spiking my football helmet and smashing baseball bats though. I can t stand losing lol
great interview
Ed Fries is an awesome guy. Wish he was still involved with Xbox in someway
Great interview and really interesting story. I always liked to listen to stories behind big companies strategics and how decision making got them to the final products
them stories are worth your time ppl. xbox fan or not. he's very interesting.
Great job, as usual, Ryan! Keep up the awesome Xbox interviews! I would love to see Seamus on here too.
Done!
There are certain things that happen in games media that are really memorable. 1up Yours and Playvalue come to mind. This show is special.
1UPYours/Weekend Confirmed was the best gaming podcast we gamers ever had. It is a shame there is basically nothing left of it now. Boo to Garnet Lee.
57:43 This is how you know Phil Spencer was the right person for head of Xbox!
true
Uhmm a guy who asks "should I quit too?" is the right person to be head of Xbox? Doesn't make sense.
@@TheDiepzone it's about loyalty. He's not cutthroat like most executives.
Ryan you're awesome! I'm glad IGN still does interviews like this after greg and the former Up @ Noon used to do.
This guy reminds me of an older Daemon Hadfield
Hahaha yes! Ed immediately reminded me of Daemon :P
Haha now you have said it I can really see it. Not enough daemon on ign.
Love Daemon, one of my fave guys at IGN. Makes Game Scoop special :P
Im glad phil spencer is there to allow developers to take their time to make games now
This guys voice is smooth
Awesome video!
Great interview
NINTENDO said : NO
SONY said : NO
BILL GATES : RELEASE THE MONSTER ....
wordperfect user here in the 90s lol.
Damn, imagine Microsoft actually acquiring Blizzard back then🤯
"What about Sony" said while sitting in front of a Sony TV.
Nice New Balances.
Am I the only one that read the title as Xbox Co-Creator Ed Dies?
It's wrong to say that the PS4 is basically an Xbox 360, a comparison that's maybe used to hark back to the one time that Microsoft were in the lead for most of that particular generation, and sidestep any questions about Xbox One's performance this generation, and the questions it raises about the future for Microsoft in gaming. I love this one.
Microsoft has some 60+ great franchises. I'm not sure why they arnt making/announcing new mech assult, viva pinyata, allen wake, azura, blood wake, night caster, conker, perfect dark, banjo, and other such games
Crimson Skies, Mechassault, and Perfect Dark are 3 I would drop money on sight unseen.
+Matt Something
Perfect Dark 3 eh? Rare has not been good since their involvement with Microsoft tho. The company was pretty much ruined years ago
Yea, but Microsoft still owns the IP, they made a great killer instinct game
I thought Bungie still owns the Marathon IP. Sounds like Take 2 has the rights.
FYI - Anytime a person being interviewed is claiming to be the only voice or reason in a room of people all thinking or voting the other way - your can be 99.9% sure they are lying.
huh?
Ed Fries is a tall guy.
is this the same ed fries as in bic speaker compiny?
CHADD C. Du-Messie. Audiophile.
You want Fries with that?
Could be wrong but I get the feeling MS wouldn't be as much scrutiny first party wise now if guys like him were still there.
Ayy, that's my man Ed Fries, he's my friends dad!
💅🏼
ok
really? Seems like a pretty genuine dude
Fryin and Buyin Baby! Fryin and Buyin
Am I the only one who thought that was just a blonde Ted Cruz?
nope
french fried hair?
awesome
no time stamps?
I wonder how he really feels about the fact that Microsoft wants to destroy what he's created.
creates one of the most ubiquitously used programs ...oh you created excel?
46:14 - Extra time for halo or i quit
who was the guy who raised his hand?
Xbox
35:24
so this is the man who destroyed Rare?
DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN.
Haloooo !!!!!
What time? Cba to watch the whole thing.
The angle of the camera makes it look like Ed and Ryan a touching feet for most of the video. #footsie
He's more successful than I ever will be and that makes me sad
Trash .Boat Thank you for believing in me but I think this is true. I am a nobody. I will die an ignominious death, even if I die happy.
Subtitles?
This video is too long for me to watch
just give it to me
did they actually talk about Oddworld at all? it's the only reason i came here
no
Oddworld is a different franchise
Hemang Chauhan I know, but the Oddworld thingie in the thumbnail gave me just a bit of hope
Not much, they just say it was a launch title.
im friends with the son of ed fries
PaperBagStudio Lenseigne ok
Want a cookie?
The dude in the thumbnail looks like ted cruz
Next time get a better interviewer. Huge gaps in his questions!
I disagree... At least he's actually interested in what the interviewee is saying.
are their shoes touching each other the whole time or what?
LOL I noticed that too but I think it's just the angle.
Fasr Eddie ??? That's a Motörhead reference.
Funny how he bought Bungie. Now they're on PlayStation.
Bungie never really liked MS that much
Edmundo studios How?

Is no one bothered by them playing footsy half the time? No? Just me?
