Not only is the mini F easier, in a band context with other instruments we guitar players don't often need to play all six strings, particularly for electric guitar players - it's just too much noise! Just three or four string is often better and gives better clarity to all instruments in the mix, including our own!

Great lesson. I might have to use this method as I still am unable to play barre chords after trying every day for several years. I might need a barre chord therapist!
You can do it! Just take your time and keep on practicing :D
The beauty of the Fmaj7 is that the shape is moveable up and down the fretboard. And it not only transitions into a Cmaj easily, it also transitions into Aminor with ease which also moves up and down the fretboard. Couple that with the Dmaj shape, and the possibilities are endless. I have composed several songs using those three shapes. They sound good to me, the grandkids and my biggest critic, my puppy...Hope that helps as a suggestion.

And I think that the Bm is the most difficult. One gets used to spreading their fingers to fit the frets for the Major Bar Chords, and then the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers have to re-shape to fit the Minor Chord!
It can also be tricky. Yes.
I recently got a new guitar -- a Taylor A12e. It's a Grand Concert size, and the scale length is 24 7/8" instead of the 25 1/2" of a Dreadnought. That makes the string tension lower, so even the 12s that it comes with are easier to press than they would be on a Dreadnought. So barre chords aren't nearly as bad on it as they were on the Dreadnought it replaced.
Yes, the guitar can make a big difference as well as the action of the strings. My Taylor makes playing Barre chords a little easier than my Crafter.

Hi Lauren I purchased the Taylor Mini and I have been practicing my fingers are so soar lol, I was wondering if I should have lighter strings put on it? The ones that it comes with it says medium strings?
Oh dear Martha, get rid of those medium strings. Ouch!!!! I don’t even play with medium strings. Try 11s. Go to the guitar store and then to restring it and adjust the neck to it sits properly.

So I do the Fmaj7 …but on the top/first fret I’m holding down 5&6 string under my index finger. Is there a name for that? Or have I created a monster haha
If you are referring to the e and B string that is a regular F chord.

Hi Stephen, it's probably just your fingers has not stretched enough. I have met few students who truly have fingers too short for the guitar.
You hold pick with middle finger and thumb?
I do sometimes yes. I change up what I am doing depending on what I am playing.
To cheat on the F I play it the first way but instead of the open high E I bar the B & E strings 🤷♂️ that’s the way my dad taught me years ago I’m pretty sure it’s a little harder but sounds good is that a form of F?
