crrrrazzyy🔥💪🤘 What is the safe temperature for desoldering RSX? It looks like balls are not made of lead free low temp melting point(220 C) solder, so I think 320 C is the melting point. Am I right? Is that temp safe for crystal?
Curious, l’m interested in these mods and plan on one in the future but l’m wondering, why don’t you also replace the CPU chip to a smaller one as well? Are the 90nm CPU’s always good and the GPU’s were always the main problem?
Sorry for late reply. My BGA station is bodged together from some Chinese cheap shit, I don't know all the model numbers anymore. I use IR on top but want to upgrade to hot air sometime. The best temp control is dependent on the board not the plate temps - it'll be different for every machine type.
@@Josh.Davidson Thank you! I have come to your same conclusions about temps but found that thermocouples are highly inaccurate because - in my experience - they sense the hot air which is being blown at them rather than the actual board temperature. That is why I was curious to see what temps you used for that nice result. Still, as you say, I did notice that thinner boards/components need lower temps than thicker ones. Any hint on how you decide what temperature to use? I've been struggling with BGA in general for a while and I feel I have decent equipment. Thank you!

nice! Just wondering, what actually is CPU training? Does it have something to do with the branch predictor or something similar? I ought to know as my forte is more a software engineer, specifically low level software engineering, but I do dabble a bit in hardware modding.
Is GPU training that is edited here, not CPU, because only the GPU is changed. I don't really know what this refers to on the PS3 as I'm not a PS3 expert.
I appreciate you answering my previous question. I want to run a few things by you. I am working on a backward-compatible PlayStation 3 motherboard. I am replacing the RSX. First, I would preheat the motherboard to 175C. Next, have the top heater kick in until 220C is reached. Does this seem good for a PlayStation 3 motherboard? I think I was not preheating hot enough in the past. I am using the ACHI IR PRO SC rework station. Thank you.
I will do this!!! You didn't use a BGA Reballing station? How did you desolver/solder the GPU? PS: I hope they update CFW, in order to support OtherOS with the 40nm GPU.
Yes, I used BGA reballing station. But I can't show under the heat, you will see nothing because my camera can't see in there. So I cut to the sections where the top heater was to the side and not on top of the chip. CFW already working.
RSX had a BGA issue. It would sometimes work, but only for a few minutes at best. Any sort of movement would disrupt it enough to hang with severe artifacting.
