The rod length for a 3.8 is 140 mm (same as a 3.4 Cayman/Boxster/911) and the newer engine capacity is 4.0 with a stroked crankshaft (3.6 911), thus a shorter rod, approximate length 137 mm. Most direct injected engines won't be that clean @ 100,000 miles. Good to see you've got it figured out as to what cause the damage and it can be repaired for more smiles & miles.
There is no reason why your motor should if it’s stock, mine I believe I pushed it too hard but high pressure fuel pumps tend to go bad on these and I made a video on my channel that shows the symptoms and how to replace it. Thank you for ur comment
@@ThatLigarage The 9a1/Ma1 was not just a replacement for the M96/M97 it was also the replacement for the Mezger engine. I refer to the 9a1 as Mezger Jr. as they went back and decided to use all they new with the Mezger and moved the bar using a clean sheet of paper in the design. I to wish there was more information available for the 9a1 & 9a2 series.
@@warrenlucier5796 i agree and they really prove to be a great replacement. i get in many of the mezger cars threw my shop and some with alot of extra power but my 997.2 is on a totally different playing felid

High torque x low RPM = bent rods
What do you think Better rods will fix the issue or better rods and less boost low rpm?
@@ThatLigarage upgraded rods is the answer imo. It's one of the few mezger weaknesses when chasing power.
@@James_Sovereign correct and this is not a mezger engine, these one is the 9A1 motor that has limited information out there
