Funny, I recently had the thought "why doesn't someone "singer" a 997" but without a completely ridiculous price tag and going way over the top with performance numbers. Give me a 997 S with a stick and just tighten it all up, some hp, exhaust, refresh the interior etc. Lovely.
Why didn't you think to yourself "hey, everything that's been done to this is inherently not special, not bespoke, and has probably been done to several 911s by owners with deep pockets who like simple modifications" There's an inordinate amount of cars that have this level of detail put into them by owners who take them to one or several shops and iron out the looks, feel, and performance to make it their "own". The fact that you and so many other fanboys are just drooling over a quite simply mundane (in terms of complexity and originality) car is just laughable. Guess anything with the right journalist at the wheel will have the plebs sold.
@@aiGeis Is there something wrong with appreciating the car? It's looks incredible, it's cohesive in design and style, and it's very much to my taste. Quite expensive yet motivates the rest of us with “old modern” 911 to keep replacing all the rubbery bits despite the inconvenience. Regular upkeep aside, the improvements to tires in the past 20 years is an enhancement itself.
Great video Henry. If you’re planning more videos like this (and the M3 video recently) I have a car you may be interested in. It’s a 997 Turbo rebuilt time GT2RS spec, upgraded engine, suspension. Set up by Tech 9 with Ohlins, Centre lock conversion, RS wheels. All carbon wings, bonnet etc. I have video of different phases also. How do I contact you directly?
So interesting to see one of my favorite yacht channels commenting on one of my favorite car channels...🤣...always wanted to know more about your porsche...
Motor journalists all seem to jump in a modern Porshce and say they've cracked the electric power steering now, there is great feel and its as good as the hydraulic systems they were struggling to match for feel. They then jump in a hydraulically power steered car and say this steering is so much better than modern cars...
Im sure the 997, especially the .2, will become a very sought after classic. Last gen with the hydraulic steering, almost last with NA Carrera and somehow just more raw than its successors.
I wanted to say a special Thank You to Henry and Charlie🥰 You guys do an amazing job behind the scene and help to make this show what it is. Your program is simply the best on anything Cars and is very special to me. Thank you for all your hard work! Mike Fitzgerald Calgary Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
Yes, I'd love a 997, though a gen 2 with some wheels closer to a Fuchs style than the HREs here. It's the profile change on the rear lights that does it for me, it makes the rear look slightly more dynamic and sets it further apart visually from the 996.
The car looks beautiful in that paint and I love combo of green and those bronze coloured like wheels. The cinematography of your videos is 60 percent of the reason that I watch them and his voice and the British accent makes for a sort of majestic feel which i love.
The 997 is the “next” 993 in value.. so take one before the price rise to the sky! And in addition is (per my experience) one of the best 911 ever (nice looking and better performance), by the way If you get one get it manual! 💪🏻
I just did! With 997.1 C2 manual 3.6 with Carrera Sport 19 inch wheels, Ohlins Coilovers, GT3 short shifter, lightened flywheel, stainless aftermarket sport exhaust (not PSE), ducktail spolier, sill graphic "Carrera", in GT Silver. Then broke my ankle 2 days later so hardly driven. Yet. 10-12 weeks no driving manual car :(. Main concern is future bore scoring - but the car is so special that I'd do a rebuild. That engine sounds SO much better than the DI in the 997.2.
Love the spec's!!! The 997 is already a classic, what a car... Great review of what's probably the last analog 911. We came to the same conclusion on our 997 video review.
Great vid, and darn it you’ve got me I’m heading out unplanned in my 997.2 4S in these crazy Covid days. The car has 3 mods only, HRE P1, Akrapovic Titanium exhaust and some better slightly lower springs that really improved the ride (to me anyway). Stay safe, from a Montreal.
There's a 997 Carrera S for sale that I've been watching for £24k. It's pretty much spot-on for what I value in a car and doesn't break the bank. My only issue is it doesn't have a place for a mountain bike and I own a Clio 182 for ragging around at weekends. I know the Porsche is in a different league to it but when you own a car that puts a smile on your face everytime you drive it and costs peanuts to run its hard to justify swapping to a Porsche like this. Crazy respect to these guys for making the 997 even more appealing to drivers but being strapped for cash makes this a dream... Great video Henry as always
Arman Nikfar 1 second ago Catchpole is hands down, the best automotive documenter around. The man could be driving a reliant robin and it wouldn't matter. Another beautifully done video guys- Carfection deserves a Netflix / tv series.
Great car, great review. It's so good to see you smiling out of sheer joy from driving this car, Mr. Catchpole, makes me want to get one of these Porsches myself... Yeah... even a modified 996 would make sense... It's not the power that's important for me, it's the joy and pleasure you get out of it.. Great stuff.. Thanks!
Love it, gorgeous build. I have a 997.1 3RS and would welcome this to sit alongside. I would go for a period mustard paint, fast road set up and ideally try to obtain a GT3 engine to base the build on and make it a bit softer ride to a GT3. Weekend North Wales mobile and rear seats would be a must with the family.
Gosh I just love how long each shot is held for in this video; really makes for pleasant viewing! Inside jokes aside, another beautifully shot and narrated upload. Fabulous car too!
Interesting. I have a base 997. checking out their site, I like seeing that I seem to be on the right track as I've already done some of the mods they list (3rd radiator, lower temp thermostat, lightweight flywheel, upgraded clutch). I guess I'll keep plodding along because I can't really afford their build. Still nice to see, though.
the base 997 is hardly plodding along! I have one with tasteful mods(coilover, short shifter, lightweight flywheel, exhaust, ducktail) but standard 3.6. The 3.6 is allegedly less prone to bore scoring than the 3.8 but I can't find any evidence to back this up. The old vulnerable IMS was replaced in early 2006 with a new larger IMS which only extremely rarely fails BUT is within the crankcase so if needs replacing the crankcase has to be opened. Bore scoring is the main worry (as it is with the 996 and even the 997.2. There are steps you can take to minimise the risk, but I suspect that eventually it may become inevitable that most will score as they get older with high mileage. By then the car will be such a classic and of such value that the engine rebuild will be worth it. Consider it a possible future "service" item :). The S is faster, but not by a lot, but the increment in speed is not relevant when the reason for driving one of these cars is the driving experience, connection and analogue thrills. The sopwatch is irrelevant :)
Hmm! Now that is a bloody lovely car!! Admittedly the price comparison to a 997 GT3 is a rather imposing elephant in the room, but just taken by itself..., so desirable! Love the aesthetic choices both inside and out Thanks for showing us this car Henry

Normal manual Carrera S or a GT3 .. cant go wrong but not a csr
GT3 Touring for me
GT3
Hmmm, I love this. Have had both 997.1 and.2 but GT3 for me please..

??? Why would You not replace the "rubbery bits" ?? 🤔
M. Sund PLENTY of used sports car owners simply won’t bother as the labor cost is 4-8x costs of parts.
Very cool car, but it sure would be tempting to start with a 997.2 to get the better non-IMS engine and handful of other upgrades
Now this is an instant classic
