    You are so good the way you speak loud enough and so clearly and slow enough without a lot of noise in the background. Also the camera shots are clear when you are showing the parts and steps as you are taking apart and assembling. Great presentation while showing us how to fix things! Thank you!

    After cutting a new seat in my shower valves, there was an increase in noise. I figured one reason could be the very sharp new edge that the water has to flow around, creating high pitch whine. Sure enough your video convinced me to buy a cheap hand deburring tool and I smoothed the sharp edge of the seat out, and now it's silent. Perfect.

      @@HouseDoctorRay *I have a question for you, If the shower is squealing and the spout is leaking, does that mean it's most likely the fix you did in the video? what about if the spout isn't leaking would that mean it's the cartridge?*

    • @HouseDoctorRay
      @HouseDoctorRay  2 года назад +1

      A leaking spout definitely can cause the sound. Spouts shouldn't leak at all when water is on.
      The noise is a harmonic vibration caused by the water flow. The spout is the easiest thing to change.
      A cartridge could definitely cause the noise too. If you do pull it out make sure the housing is clear of any debris before installing the new one.

    Sometimes, your spout just needs some Lime Away sprayed up in there to soak & clean the diverter because hard water deposits will cause this.

    • @HouseDoctorRay
      @HouseDoctorRay  Год назад +1

      Good point - you can also use white vinegar to dissolve mineral deposits.
      If you can wrap a Ziploc bag full of either around the spout and leave it soak for a few hours even better.

      I'm thinking that's what muly issue is because my landlord just had a professional come put a new spout on 7 months ago and it's already doing this. We do have high amounts of minerals in our water this past year or so for some reason so I think I'll try the soak thing first 🤞🏻

    I changed a leaking cartridge on one of the tubs in my house and and the tub started squealing when the valve is in the middle of its range, but gets quieter when the diverter is pulled up for the shower to work (even though water still goes through the tub spout). I changed out the cartridge again, thinking I damaged it when I installed it because it was very difficult to get seated, and the squeal remains. I took the tub spout off so it was just a bare pipe and turned the water on and it still squeals.

    • @HouseDoctorRay
      @HouseDoctorRay  9 месяцев назад +2

      Sounds like a Moen. Even if not try this:
      Take the cartridge out again
      Clean the inside with some fine Emery cloth. Use a dowel, marker, or pencil to get all the way in there. See if you can get into the little holes on the side with a pipe cleaner.
      Before putting it back together turn the water on for a few seconds to blow any gunk out.
      Use silicone grease when you reinstall the cartridge (I always use Vaseline even though it's considered a sin).
      If that doesn't help you may need to put some more pipe clamps on or try a screw on water hammer arrester on a nearby sink.

    • @HouseDoctorRay
      @HouseDoctorRay  Год назад +1

      Try cleaning the shower head by either taking it off and soaking in a bucket of white vinegar or tying a Ziploc bag full of vinegar around the head overnight.
      The aerator can get partially clogged with dirt and minerals. Sometimes if you unscrew the showerhead the restrictor/aerator is right there and can be pulled out. If you don't put it back in you may get more water pressure ala Kramer.

    • @HouseDoctorRay
      @HouseDoctorRay  Год назад

      Try cleaning the showerhead. Or take it off and see if the noise stops. The whining, squealing noise is the pipes vibrating.

    .A new faucet (a dual spray switch tap that allows to switch between a strong shower setting, and normal stream setting) is installed downstairs. Whenever the downstair neighbor switches to strong flow setting I hear a high pitched water stream noise in my kitchen. The below neighbor uses the high flow setting quite often in the day, and it affects my ears as I have an ear condition called tinnitus. But it's loud enough that even someone without tinnitus would find it annoying (the nails against chalkboard type of sound)..why the noise is coming,
    Really appreciate any help, thank you!

    • @HouseDoctorRay
      @HouseDoctorRay  11 месяцев назад

      Sounds like you rent.
      Talk to the landlord about it. Explain how the high pitched noise is pipe vibration that will eventually cause leaks.
      Another option that might help is a screw on water hammer arrester. They're designed to stop pipes from banging but can also help with the vibrations that cause this noise.

    Mine makes same noise whether the water is on or off. It will do it even if you use shower in a different bathroom.

      You may have a slight drip allowing water to flow. If that is the case you would need to change the cartridge.

      That sounds like water hammer. You could try the arrestors below on your bathroom sink and see if they help.

      Shut off water and remove cartridge. Turn water back on with cartridge removed. You may have debris in the water line that needs to be cleared out.

    how did you turned the set screws to the bottom if you already tightened down? just force turn it? or did you redo it??

    • @HouseDoctorRay

      Not sure what you're asking me.
      The kit I bought doesn't have a set screw on the spout. Once you install the plastic adapter the new spout just screws on.

    I changed the cartridge and diverter but still makes noise

    • @HouseDoctorRay
      @HouseDoctorRay  2 года назад

      I had another shower where the noise was caused by the rubber seal on the side of the cartridge partially blocking the water flow. I think it was a Moen.

      @@HouseDoctorRay I'm thinking a about replacing the who m e valve. Don't want to destroy the walls. But the contant bitching from the wife is driving me nuts

    • @HouseDoctorRay

      The diverter only has to have a tiny drip to cause the noise.
      You can also try submerging the showerhead in vinegar overnight to remove any calcium deposits.

      Water is going through the pipes somewhere. If you have a tiny drip coming out with the valve off you probably need to replace the shower cartridge.

      Soak the showerhead in vinegar overnight. It will remove the mineral deposits clogging the showerhead.

      @@HouseDoctorRay I cleaned it even though it has a filter before watching your video and determined it's not the shower head BECAUSE I took it off (showerhead) and it still makes the noise behind the handle. 🤔

      Change the cartridge. While you have it out clean the housing well then turn the water on for a few seconds to clear out the lines.
