HEY GUYSSS!!! hope you enjoy my DIY bathroom makeover!!!! so glad I finally got around to doing this because it made a hugeeee difference! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 just BTW - as I said at the beginning of this video, I did this super half ass on purpose! this is super temporary because I'll be getting it done professionally sometime in the next few months! that's why I didn't put more effort into all the prep steps before painting! thank you for the tips if I ever choose to do this more permanently in another bathroom! 💕💕
I did the same thing with my vanity (paint chipping) and when I asked my dad, he said to sandpaper the vanity. That way the paint will grip the surface. It totally worked 😊
Love how it turned out but the reason the paint is scratching off so easily is because you didn't sand the drawers down. Would stick a lot better! :) But looks so cute still!! Love the hardware you chose! I miss being able to do home projects!
I was gonna comment the same thing!! Also, Tara, if you have to repaint them, it would be much easier to take all the hardware off first so you don’t have to paint around them. :) looks so great!
It’s so weird to me when people have so many products 😂 I literally have one hairspray. no dry shampoo. Two body moisturizers. One face moisturizer. Two face masks. one face wash. And that’s it. This video makes me want to organize my apartment though so thanks hahah
When painting cabinets you have to sand down the first layer of varnish off. Also if you want it to be scratch resistant and easy to clean you want and enamel paint. Also if you want everything to come out smooth and clean I suggest taking the doors and hardware off and paint them flat on a drop sheet. We redid all the cabinets when we bought our house this way and had no problems, nothing has ever chipped and everything looks professionally done.
i felt so proud of Tara renovating by herself -- painting, replacing the handles as well as changing the lights! Super satisifying when you do it yourself. It goes to show how dependent I am tho to other people 🙃
hahahah i love how on every design show ive watched they like take the drawers and handles off to paint the vanities and youre just like nope we going in and it still turned out so cute i love this
Oh gosh, I love your design style so much!! That bathroom looks better for sure!! Maybe some modern artistic mirrors on the wall behind would help to make the light bounce and become brighter in there?
Wow it looks amazing and so much better than before! I am looking forward to you re-doing the bathroom because your kitchen already turned out great and I love the vibe you go for
Chalk paint is a good option for an easy diy. It doesn’t require sanding and is really forgiving. Just make sure you use the wax seal to seal it to prevent water spots. I chalk painted my nightstand, side table, and coffee table.
I think it turned out amazing given you were doing it yourself!! Super impressive!! I can’t wait to see what you do with it in the future when it’s time to get it professionally done 😍😍 love your style babe!!
Looks so fresh! It’s amazing what a bit of paint and new hardware can do. Your bathroom cabinets totally match my kitchen...hardware and all. Also, every time you brew a keurig, it makes me want to build a coffee nook! Your home is beautiful! Thank you for another great video, Tara! 😁
I love your bathroom! I became a subscriber last year when you were house hunting. Your videos and vlogs are my happy place. They have been helping me get through this hard quarantine. So thank you 😊
TIP: You have to (or should) sand down (and occasionally prime) the wood before painting. That’s why your paint is scratching off so easily, (it’s Probably not the paint) In furniture they usually put a sealer or clear top coat so it doesn’t get stained or water damage and is easily cleaned.
Definitely, sand if you can. Even by hand, it will just take a while longer. Also, recommend using chalk paint, it's a paint and primer in one and it went over my dark hardwood drawers and it looks so fab! We used the brand Rust-oleum Chalked Ultra-Matte Paint and it was completely covered in two coats
Thank you so much for posting this video (and all of your videos) the bathroom looks amazing!! So impressed with the organization skills! You inspire me everyday to just do what makes you happy and not let other people get you down. So thank you and have a great night💓💓
Love the DIY visit, can’t wait to see the final version of a professional remodel if you decide to do it! Makes me want to reorganize and redo my space!
For a temporary change, this is GREAT! makes such a difference. at least you'll have a nice space to get ready in until you make the big permanent reno's! How about refreshing the downstairs guest bathroom too?? since you do have that huge tin of paint already :P and you could perhaps also add a printed wallpaper in there!
Tara, a tip for future projects: sand the surface first and then wipe clean, apply a primer, then paint. Sanding will strip the existing protective coat, allow the primer/paint to adhere better to the cabinet doors, and it will last longer :)
Omg I love this transformation! 😍I remember you saying in your vlogs that you didn't like the lighting as it was too much of a yellow tone, but now that you now have white lights, it makes so much of a difference, like wowzer 😍😍, love you lots Tara ❤️
I did some major organization in my bathrooms about a month ago but I love this video! And I loveeee all the changes in your house, it is coming together so nicely!
Sand the cabinets a little bit with a high grit sand paper and then use an enamel paint so it won’t scratch!! Also use a similar color to that one cause it’s cute😍
Love this! I did a kind of similar thing to my bedroom over quarantine, new paint on the walls, wardrobe and dresser and new hardware, makes such a massive difference! x
recommendation for after you’ve finished your cabinets; put a glaze you can get matte or shiny because it will help even more with scratching and chipping especially as your in a bathroom it will also reduce water marks
I'm sure someone else has prob mentioned it but if you buy a hand held sander or even if you had sanding blocks/paper (more tedious and time consuming for ur needs) then the paint would've adhered better. The current cabinets has a coating on it so that's why the paint was scraping off. So ur pretty much gonna have to remove the glossy layer by sanding it. You did a great job. Also you can replace or even paint over your hardware so you can take them from silver to gold. or maybe even black to match the new hardware you put on the drawers.
The black handles are awesome. Hope you use them when you do the real makeover. Great that you organized all your products so you can see and use them.
My dad is an architect but more like a handyman He does painting and so many more things It’s kind of funny to see someone paint their cabinets without laying down anything without using any type of masking tape Without priming the surface But I would probably do the same thing We love you Tara !!! 😂😂😂
Tara, being a youtube guroo one would think you would have checked what you should do for painting the cabinets. Those cabinets have a varnish on them so they either need sanding (recommend because of the small space) or use a oil base primer. I do like the color and the handles. Organization is very good.
Seriously love all of your content! I start seeing you since you moved to LA! And I'm so happy for you for everything you have acomplished and everything that you make. Congrats in all of your succes you deserve it and more. Kisses from Spain
I would recommend a satin or semi gloss finish instead of eggshell and should always clean and sand any type of cabinetry that could possibly have residue from hair and makeup products etc. Primer is always a good idea when going on cabinets that have a clear coat/shiny finish to them after sanding. And always give paint time to cure before going hard on it. Drying time and curing time is different :)
There's a product called Liquid Sander. I used it when I painted my kitchen cabinets. I just lightly sanded my cabinets and then applied the liquid sander before painting. Worked beautifully. Also for kitchen and bathrooms you should used a gloss paint instead of a flat eggshell. Gloss stands up to humidity much better.
I guess people have suggested that prep and primer helps the paint stay, but I really like what you did. I was thinking that the trim on the light could be painted black to match the hardware?

❤️❤️❤️
Tara Michelle love the makeover
I get that, it’s like a lil quarantine project
I did the same thing with my vanity (paint chipping) and when I asked my dad, he said to sandpaper the vanity. That way the paint will grip the surface. It totally worked 😊
The paint was coming off because you need to sand the base, so it just wasnt sticking. LOVE how it turned out though!! ❤❤
oh bummer!! hahah oh well!!
Yep. Prep is #1 when it comes to painting. It wi harden though. It takes time to fully cure.
Yea especially since your cabinets were a gloss Polly surface. if you sanded the wood first or did a layer of killz paint before maybe.
Also LOVE your ruffle white top 😍😍
You could try to add a poly acrylic on top in a matte finish.
Love how it turned out but the reason the paint is scratching off so easily is because you didn't sand the drawers down. Would stick a lot better! :) But looks so cute still!! Love the hardware you chose! I miss being able to do home projects!

Yess!! I made the same mistake on my kitchen cabinets 🤦🏻♀️ always sand before you paint!
YESSS
just what i was gonna say :)
i got stressed out when she just started painting without sanding it down or removing hardwares😂
I think your paint is chipping because you didnt prept the surface (like sanding the cabinets down and priming them) but i love how it turned out🥰🥰
makes sense!!! thanks!!! :)
@@imtaramichelle i cant belive that u replied i love your videos😭😭🤩🤩
It’s so weird to me when people have so many products 😂 I literally have one hairspray. no dry shampoo. Two body moisturizers. One face moisturizer. Two face masks. one face wash. And that’s it. This video makes me want to organize my apartment though so thanks hahah
I think she gets given a lot of products, and it is always fun to try a new type of face mask :)
It’s probably all
Pr stuff she gets sent to her
I don’t even have that. What’s I’m my bathroom is soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and then household cleaning products. 😂
It stresses me out that she has 20 of the same product
More than I have lmao

When I painted my kitchen cupboards I didn’t sand or prep, I just simply used a chalk paint and had zero chipping or scratching! Highly recommend😊
She DID THAT!!!😍😍😍😍🔥 looks sooo good, and yes deff needs a renovation.

Cabinets look great, especially with those handles! The paint actually takes 30 days to fully cure.
good to know!! thanks :)
I can not stop aatching your videos they are so good!!!
I need these earrings that you’re wearing!!!!🤩 both the hoops and small studs!!
Girl for cabinets, always go for oil based paints!
They won't scratch and clean super easy :)
it looks so goood that grey paint made the biggest difference!!! love it

Finallyyy!!! 🌸❤️ Hope you’re doing well, Tara! Keep being you and keep inspiring people 🥰😘
I love the colour of the cabinets. Btw if you lay an elastic band over the top of your screw driver it will help you unscrew a stripped screw.
You will
Always be my favorite vlogger 💕❤️
Your videos are helping everyone get through quarantine
This was so relaxing to watch! I found you through TikTok, and just love your vlogs and main channel
