it is risky for modders to make their own game, it usually helps if you have help from the game itself. right now star ship troopers extermination is one of the best trending games on steam and it was originally a bunch of squad modders. Now in just a few days of its release its already made more than they probably ever thought they were gonna make across the games entire lifetime
I was actually in Contact with one of the Creators of the game when it was freshly released and still received updates. To be honest. The beginning was very promessing. Quite regulary Updates (literally or general informations). The Creators even added the Players per friends list and asked for feedback, which was nice. Because of the cost of engine and salary of employees combined with the very few sold copies, the whole thing crashed. They just run out of money really really fast and it was impossible to continue the project. Especially with the financial future (it already failed to get any hype at all). Personally i think it failed, because it was basically a new mod and in no way a new game. Or at least it felt like it. I played so early, most of the symbols and interface didnt exist, but the features were already there. It felt like a Mod for quite a high price with basically NOTHING to play with. I dont know how much time went already into the game at that point but it felt like they worked a month on that project. They should have started a few months later, but thats easier said than done i guess
Yeah the also had an Indigogo page I checked out after watching this that only got about 600 hundred dollars so even without knowing this from someone in contact with them it's easy to tell that lack of money was definitely an issue for them.
yeah its a bit hard seeing it in this state, because when it launched I wished the dev all the success. It simply failed in developement, this is by no means what the creators wanted to make

Honestly if EAW / Thrawn's revenge / republic at war was remade in Unreal Engine 5 with nanite technology allowing super high resolution images/models and with modern standards (eg. networking support for less disconnects and de-syncs) and the battles allowing multiple groups/fractions to fight in one battle during campain or just multiplayer galactic conquest with less lag during fights etc... it would be godly :D...Just imaging that multiple factions fighting over a system and having large scale space battles makes me want it imediately I would pay those 35-60 €/$

Anyone can buy the rights to use any engine if you make a deal with the people who make the engine, but it's not something that's just for sale by default. This cost them around $40k from what I'm aware of, and Petroglyph has to be willing to sell it. Frankly, using any of the more openly available engines (Unreal, Unity) is probably a better play for almost anyone looking to make a game at this point.
Also the "fractions" thing is just icing on the "shitshow of a game" cake. 😂 (And im being extremely generous when I refer to it as a "game". Its a mod, and a shit one at that!)

The big one is just a brick, painfull reminder of my space engineers design skill, and the smaller frigate looking thing with 4 cannons is just atrocious, realistically it can only engage enemies while being "belly up", otherwise it`s cannons just shoot each other lol.

The Anno series was pretty good. Tropico is not exactly nearly as great as it was any more, but used to be. Still isn't terrible though. So there definitely are good German games. There are some other examples out there as well that I don't remember by name. Usually strategy games.
Gothic Series, Crysis, Far Cry, Settlers, Anno, Tropico, Railway Empire & The Port Royale games and Sudden Strike 4 are all nice or even fantastic titles ^^ As Sami already explained - a lot of RTS But why "Man why do german games always gotta be so bad. It's sad, petroglyph and lucas arts made some genuinely good games. Now the entirety of star wars (cept for fallen order) is a dying genere being remilked for profit

While i like the sexy ai trooe , i like ai writing ai in general tbh they didnt think this through id let the chokers and ai go and be fine with it even enjoy it but they needed to wait that comes later make the game playable first ffs they did no effort by looks

The Anno series was pretty good. Tropico is not exactly nearly as great as it was any more, but used to be. Still isn't terrible though. So there definitely are good German games. There are some other examples out there as well that I don't remember by name. Usually strategy games.
Gothic Series, Crysis, Far Cry, Settlers, Anno, Tropico, Railway Empire & The Port Royale games and Sudden Strike 4 are all nice or even fantastic titles ^^ As Sami already explained - a lot of RTS

Anthem *cough cough* , Fallout *cough cough* , Bethesda in general with 19827312 Skyrim ports&variants *cough cough* , Fifa with a 60 dollar game every year *cough cough* , OW2 just beeing milked by re-releasing the same game without the promised PvE *cough cough*
There are enough examples of stupid developers and scams among video games, its not a german thing. Scummy people exist everywhere
Especially the many Skyrim Special Ultra Anniversary Creation "We steal mods and sell them" Club etc and the Yearly Fifa games with copy paste content are just insane. Imagine buying Fifa 22 and paying a lot of money in Lootboxes just to keep up with other players only to buy a new Fifa next year since 22 is outdated and repeat the cycle, Great way if making money lmao
