How would you use the number bond strategy with 230+640 which equals 870, I am trying to help my son with his second grade homework. I graduated high school 18yrs ago lol. Why not just add the old fashioned way?
omg... i am watching this for my son's 2nd grade homework. ...this is not easy...is soooo complicated for a simple addition problem. no wonder our kids fail compared to other countries.
Can you solve these for me : 23 + 398 then it goes down to two lines that you have to fill in and then it says + 398. So it was blank + blank + 398 then down again and it says 21 + blank = blank and then it drops down again and says So, 23+ 398= blank. What's the answer and how did you get it? Is this crap " common core " ?
23 + 398....Using the strategy outlined in the video, I would make the easier problem 21 + 400, which equals 421. Took me a few seconds to solve mentally. This strategy is a scaffold to help our students learn how to solve problems easily in their heads so they don't have to stack and regroup with the algorithm (takes more time) or depend on a calculator. They don't learn these mental strategies magically, unfortunately. You must teach them.
Is McGraw-Hill owned by a foreign company? Because this textbook's overly complicated approach to simple math seems like a plot to disadvantage our nation's children in the global economy.
