sorry I am confusing everyone by late posting this, I finished reading the books last year I just never finished editing these reading vlogs! 😂 the amount of footage I took was stressing me out, I’m gonna not leave my camera rolling for so long when I start heroes of olympus hahaha
It's fine! I couldn't even make a 2 minute video if I tried. Loved the video!
Yeah, obviously. Just lay that camera down flat. Less rolling makes the footage much easier to watch, I was dizzy the whole video.
I was honestly about to write a comment that I'm so surprised you hadn't read the rest of the series and that you wouldn't be ready for the journey ahead! With that said, I can't wait for you to meet Leo Valdez, maybe my favorite character out of everyone!
Don't sweat nuthin'. It's all good. No notes.
Can't wait to see your thoughts on all the new characters !!

If anyone is curious to know if Tantalus’s punishment fits his crime…it does. He sacrificed his own son to the gods, then had him cooked and served to the gods in a soup, to test their omniscience.
Pelops, Tantalus’s son, was resurrected (sans a shoulder that had been eaten by Demeter, so Hephaestus made him a replacement out of ivory) and went on to live a full life.
At least that injustice was undone. My God !
@@JabamiLainthank gods you mean
This act also started The Curse of the House of Atreus which is bloody and only lifted after 5 generations.
The book was for kids, and there are several different versions of the story, so I'm not surprised, but I really wish the part where posideon has relations with pelops had been brought up, it would have been funny.
I read that book in less than a day
i love how you filmed this a year ago but somehow predicted Sally’s incredible line from episode 1 of the show-“not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero, and not everyone who looks like a monster is a monster.” 2:33 i’ve been living for your PJO content btw!
haha I was so happy when I heard that line in the show!! that’s been one of my absolute favorite themes in the books and I love that the show put a focus on it!
@@magicbymikaila YES! i love the way the show-writers have managed to really pull out those themes, and set up things like fatal flaws and nuanced characters. i think that since they have a full series to work with (not just one book) they’re being conscious of which things to emphasize in order to hammer in character arcs and over-arching themes that carry throughout the entire story.
When do you think your reaction to book three will be posted? No rush just curious 🤗@@magicbymikaila

spoilers for Battle of the Labyrinth*and titan's curse*
I thought that the line "the lost one shall raise," meant Bianca at first. I still think it does. If Nico, the ghost king, had chosen to let them "fall by the ghost king's hand," then he would have risen Bianca from the dead, "The lost one shall raise," and, " One shall be lost in the land without rain." I thought this because both the prophesies talk about a lost one.
i'm pretty sure the ghost king is minos.@@Magentapurplesue.7

I too could not stop reading when I first read this series. Rick was scheduled to speak at my school so our teachers started encouraging us to read the books. One of my teachers lent me the Lightning Thief over winter break and I got hooked. I immediately bought the second, third & fourth one after that (fifth one wasn’t out yet). I finished them so quick that I had caught up to the where the series was at the time and even lend my copies to friends so they could read them before Rick came to our school. Rick ended up coming when 2 of my friends were borrowing my books (one had Sea of Monsters & the other The Battle of the Labyrinth) and they each got a chance to meet him and have books signed. They each took my books I lent them and had Rick sign them for me (they even told him my name). Best experience I had with these books.
A friend lent me the first book on monday, by friday I had finished the series 😅
Before I knew Percy Jackson, the Lightning Thief book was actually part of my school book list. But we didn't really do much with the book and then I started reading it. I finished that series in a few months and I read it online.
Also Percy not killing the cyclops...that's part of Odysseus' story with the cyclops, he only harms him and doesn't kill him, which gets him in trouble with poseidon...which is funny because Percy is son of Poseidon but Percy doesn't get yelled at by him, I also feel stupid, just now realizing polyphemus is also Percy's brother. I really need to re-read these books.
Although I wonder if they’ll play out Polyphemus’ fate as in the myth/book or do a twist on it. Just that, it’s kind of wild that he’s been blinded by a sharp implement at least twice and you gotta wonder if there’s another way to trick him… then again I also know he’s not very bright (Grover in a dress, but also Odysseus making him think his name is “No One/Nobody”, doesn’t speak well of his intellect).
This is also the book which arguably had the least inventive of implementing the myths; SOM is also between TLT and TTC which have consistently tricky twists along the way, whereas this one just follows Odysseus’ footsteps largely… except for the Golden Fleece and Luke, granted.
@@borjankosarac3645That may be why it’s probably the least interesting book. The interpersonal stuff is the good part, but the adventures feel like a repeat of Odysseus.
So glad you're continuing with the reactions of these! I just finished Last Olympian, I'm starting to be a part of the fandom more and more lately. If your shorts hadn't released I wouldn't be reading it today. Thank you Mikaila!

Clarisse was my favorite back in the day. In my head, she looked more like Luisa from Encanto, than the tiny actresses who've played her.
Agreed, we’ve had three incarnations of her now and while Dior comes closest in personifying her in the show, none of them look the part. Why is everyone scared to cast a bigger actress?
@loveandwar007 Because Clarissa is like 14 years old? Teenager, especially girls, are not that buff at that age. Give her a couple of years and she can build muscle. Carelessly doing so while growing can be harmful.
@@Ikajoshe’s a child of war though. I always assumed it was her god "genetics” that caused her to be larger
@@emmawagner8915 Sure, but you can't demand that of a child actor
@@Ikajo oh I didn’t mean a child should actually build muscle like that. I just meant cast someone who already is that way. It doesn’t matter if the actor is a bit older than the character in that case. Heck, walker is already 15
I'm a slow reader too, I was soo surprised when I finished Percy Jackson's series so quicky
I think it’s because Rick Riordan wrote them for his son with ADHD. They’re designed to hold the attention of people who have trouble with that

"i'm reading this so fast! like i've just been sitting and reading. I can't put it down" no lie, these books really are addicting
i re-read them for the first time in like 7 or 8 years (as an adult this time) last year (around the same time you were first reading them) and they got me out of a reading slump. I went from having read zero novels in like 4-5 months to reading all five books (the main PJO series) in like 2 weeks. One right after the other, whenever I had time. AND THE THALIA CLIFFHANGER WAS SO GOOD. It shocked me when I first read SoM as a kid, and it still wowed me as an adult, having appreciated/understood the writing itself/what the author was doing to lead up that point that much more.
I just love how fully invested Mikaila is by this point
I started watching your videos more recently and absolutely did not realize you hadn’t read all of these yet. Excited to be here for the reactions!
I just want to say thank you so much. I'm also a slow reader, and the Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus I have, and am still, flying through. watching these with her saying she loves characters like grover and clarisse knowing they just get better and better as the books go
So glad your continuing reading them! Can’t wait for your video of Titan’s Curse it’s my favorite one out of the five.
These books make me feel seen in a way that others don’t. Especially Sea of monsters. I’m really tall and I’m really clumsy. Despite my size I’m not that strong and I’m honestly not super bright either. I don’t fit in all that well, even in my friend group made entirely of semi social outcasts. Tyson (and Frank Zang a little bit too) makes me feel like I don’t have to be strong, or super smart, or even attractive. I self insert hard for him because maybe if he can be so kind and brave and if he can create such amazing things, then just maybe I can too. He makes me feel like it’s okay that I’m not perfect, because someone as awesome as him isn’t perfect either.

The only issue w the books/franchise in general is that in the lore (I’m a Hellenic pagan so I literally worship the Greek gods) Ares is not an abusive father. He’s actually a papa bear very protective of his kids (especially his daughters).
Yeah it’s always kind of annoying when popular stuff messes with the original. For me as a Christian when people take liberties with the Bible it’s a bit disconcerting. Cool about Ares though

I just read the whole PJO books just now over spring break. I had a decent idea of what happened in them. I've seen the movies, read the guide book(you should check that out it has really good illstraction for the characters, escpically Luke and Annabeth) and my brothers and friends who read the books talked about it a lot. I started reading lighting theif on like march 8th, and i just finished the Last Olympian today (march 18) at 1 a.m. I started at like 4 p.m. yesterday and read straight through for 9 hours to finish the book. It gets good, it gets emotional, and my eyes started to hurt by like 10:30 p.m., but i just pushed through and read it all in one sitting. Im honeslty surprised i read the books so fast. I useally hate reading because most books are so boring. But just binged the whole series like it was nothing
I kinda regret not reading them as a kid, but im glad i finally got around to it. Im moving on to the lost hero and those books. And i will probably try to limit myself and not read for 9 hours straight for those books. This is cool i can fianlly talked to my friends about this. Plus i can be exited for the tv show and how they will adapt the next 4 books. And get emotional all over again
I’ve read these so long ago and now it’s all coming back, it’s all coming back to me now.
I turned 23 years old last week. When I was 12, I borrowed the book from the local library and was given a week to read it. I had the same experience reading them, I was curious about the series after seeing Dominic Noble's video on the original movie adaption and started reading them on my phone at work and got so obsessed I kept taking bathroom breaks so I could finish another chapter.
