Hey, Lauren and Mr. Kelly! One tip I heard from Kara via Kara & Nate was that ‘Most people use most things in most places of the world’ so whatever you cannot bring will likely be available in some capacity in your destination. That mindset gave me an easier packing mindset this Feb-May when I was traveling.
Thank you as well for all your wonderful content. It has informed and influenced my decisions. I can’t wait for my Monos products to arrive! You are the best. I bought them because of you. ;)

As a woman of color I bring lotion. A baby lotion for after showers and to wear along with perfume, and one that's heavier for those extra dry days. And I pack extra. I use a lot of lotion. I will place extra in other spots.😂 I pack bar soaps, but I splurge and get loccitane, and I use a solid deodorant. They don't count either..

Worth noting that some countries DO require things like mascara and liquid lipstick to be in your liquids bag! Last time I flew through Stansted in the UK a woman in front of me in the security queue got told off for not having them in with the rest of her liquids so I'd honestly be double checking that for each location

Travel toothpaste - you can easily refill the travel size from your larger tube of tooth paste! Squeeze paste into a child medicinal syringe then into the travel sized tube. No need to toss the single use tube every time You can also put the tubes against each other and slowly squeeze from the large tube into the smaller one. The syringe method is useful for refilling all sorts of things.

I have eczema too. For me, switching to a gentler soap really helped reduce/eliminate the need for lotion. I use the Eczema Relief Banana and Tumeric bar from By Robin Creations. It's pricey, so I only use it on travel, but it eliminates the need for me to use lotion, and it's not a liquid. I'm sure there are other brands that also make gentler soaps. I also bring a lotion stick for any areas that need extra moisture. I don't know if any of these would work for you, but I thought I would list them here.

I use Bite toothpaste bits, love them! Been using them for 2 yrs. I'm also a contact lenses wearer with super dry eyes, so I actually pack a 2nd liquids bag I label "medical" to add all my prescription eye drops, lense solution, and allergy nose sprays, since medical items do not count toward 311. I do pack lotion, as I have a dry skin condition and without using lotion my skin gets horribly itchy and can crack, so it's a must. I tried Ethique solid lotion, but it wasn't moisturizing enough unfortunately.

If the container says the amount of product in fluid ounces, it is a liquid. I have always been told if it can be squeezed or poured out, it is a liquid. TSA agents always have the final say. So 1 person may be really lenient but the next one is not. If you want to risk it, that’s your choice. I generally go by the strictest criteria for what counts as a liquid. In fact we’re going on a cruise in September and I’m not taking any liquids, because I don’t want to worry about taking them out at security. I’ve got a reef-safe sunscreen, toothpaste tablets, and hand sanitizer wipes. Those are the only things I would have taken that were liquids anyway. Thanks for the video!

I had to stop using Bare Minerals foundation and switch everything over to cream products as well for the same reason. So frustrating. One thing I do for blush is just swipe a bit of my lipstick onto my cheeks, add a tiny bit of Vaseline for easier movement, and blend. Works perfectly, low cost, and moisturizing.

As shampoo (I don't use conditioner), I like to use the DrBronner bar soap. I use the baby one as it's the only one that doesn't have fragrance (they might be essential oils) in it. I also use it as my body and face soap when I travel. Here in Canada it cost about 6.50CAD$ plus taxes and you can find them in any bio store.

I rarely used lotion when I lived in Ohio, but now that I'm in a much drier and less humid climate, I use it more. So, I try to take into account the humidity of the destination when trying to decide whether I need to pack lotion. Also, there are some companies that make lotion sticks (so they are solid).

I can live without body lotion but not without hand lotion. I usually just bring a small tin of Nivea cream with me and that’s enough to tackle my hands and any dry patches on my body if they pop up. It can also double as an eye makeup remover in a pinch if I’m really trying to pare down my toiletries.

A fantastic solid lotion is Kate McLeod! They come in small versions for travel and many different natural scents. I love it at home and am excited to try it for travel. I cannot live without nail oil and lip balm, so I always have that. I've switched to Dr. Rogers Restore lip balm because it can double as a cuticle/cut healer in a pinch (and it is unscented). For a small-sized oil, the rose cuticle oil from Ten Over Ten comes in a slender tube if this is important to you. I am an overpacker regarding these items so I am trying to reform my practices! One bar lasts several months too. I cut small pieces for travel, put them in the Kitsch shampoo bag (helps it lather and can also hang in the shower) and then put it in a Matador soap bag when I’m done. I did have to take 2 bottles for squalane oil. I also used contact lenses holders for face soap and lotions. The only thing is that I dont like dipping fingers into a pot, and i will lose a spatula. Then i found airless pump bottles, and I love them. I can take 5ml or 10ml of my facewash, moistuizer, face sunscreen, aloe, ect, and they dont take hardly any room. Scrubzz bath wipes - you basically add water and it can be your shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Also meant for campers & hikers to freshen up bc you don't have to rinse it off so also can be like a dry shampoo. Lotion is a must for me, especially in the winter or after shaving legs, or my skin legit flakes off and is itchy. Lastly, I dunno what to do w self tanner as mine is a foam pump bottle and my toner is a spray. But may just bring my big bottle since I have to check luggage most of time anyway w my hiking poles that are not allowed in carry on

Any aerosols are regulated and have to go in your "liquids" bag. If it's bug spray or hair spray or dry shampoo, if it's an aerosol you can't bring more than the 3.4 oz of it. It has to do with the alcohol propellant and how flammable it is I think.
