Im coming from watch a monsters in my pocket nes video.
That game is similar to castle crashers since they both happen on a world much bigger than the characters.
Also, there exist 3 games where terror elements appears.
They are monsters in my pocket nes, night slashers, and splatter house.
Put that terror atmosphere into a castle crashers mod, fighting zombies enemies and everything being root and gore, could be awesome.
Is my suggestion in case someone wants to create something creative.
