Screw down crown itself doesn't make the watch waterproof, it's the crown and stem seals. The screw down function is for the unlikely event of pulling the crown out while under water.
I have the stainless steel version. I love it. I have only taken it off to shower, since I got it 2 weeks ago. I have more, much more, expensive watches, yet I really love this Seiko
I have the Deploy and love it I’ve gotten many compliments in the few times I’ve worn it so far. I pre ordered from Japan at a great price and even received a nice note with a cool origami to top it off.
Thanks for the timely review. I am looking at the white dial JDM version, not that I need another GMT watch. (wrist check - Citizen Series 8 GMT). Of course logic and financial responsibility rarely stops watch enthusiasts. By the way, the new studio looks great!
Wish they would have released the JDM white dial version internationally , love the white with the pop of orange but to try to get it with going to Japan people are charging up to double the cost
I agree I picked the deploy myself and have the 5kx gmt too and while I do like them I just can’t get over the no saffire and chincy bracelets anymore when brands like San Martin give you amazing specs and finishing for much less. Give me saffire and a milled clasp and Seiko would make many watch enthusiasts very pleased. Just bc of this I’ve been thinking of buying more watchmakers tools to modify them to how they should have left the factory in the first place smh
One of the biggest pet peeves of mine is when companies don’t release watches with a bracelet. I love the black variant but I want a bracelet. I am sure there will be after market brands that fit it. Or at least I hope.
The watch is nice looking. I would chooses the deploy over the deception. Seiko should have given it lumed Arabic numerals. That would have really kicked it up a notch!
Wrist Check: A different Seiko 5 - the SE Regatta Timer (SRPK13). Out of the two review watches, I think the deception looks better. Unlike the Hamilton Khaki Field, they've managed to keep the 15 in the right place on the dial next to the date window (that bugs me on the Hamilton). It'd be a bit weird not to have a date on a GMT.
Cadisen explorer in Tiffany blue 36mm on wrist. Yes id buy that Seiko but only because I'm ok with scratches on the hard lex. Sapphire is the one thing Seiko lack's.
I like the braceleted one but I prefer the white dial JDM model. What I have on isn't a million miles away from these, a Seiko SNK809 on a matching bead blasted Uncle Seiko bracelet.
I’d like to try this on the wrist…looks good…….I’ve a modest watch collection (IMO) but currently rocking the Seiko 5 midi as my daily…. Defo not Rolex quality and makes some weird bracelet noises but it stops on my wrist for some weird reason😂👍
Aside the price, how a Sapphire crystal makes better a "Sport" "Tactical" watch? By making it more fragile? It makes no sense. Sapphire is relatively a scam nowadays, it is more expensive, and fairly less resistant that some other polymers, let alone it's supposed brightness and clarity isn't better at all than newer materials. I've broken sapphires by barely touching them against a door rim or a table. They literally explode by hitting them softly. Honestly, at this moment in time, sapphires are one of those billboards used to sell watches pricer but better, just as it happens with the often mentioned Superluminova, which ain't at all the best and long lasting glow chemical compound. Both features are not either the most classical anthic option, nor the most modern, improved and optimal options for their respective purposes.
How can these models change someone's decision to buy a Rolex Explorer? I cannot understand these titles (it's a common practice among RUclipsrs) I know the world Rolex is attractive to most of us but if someone wants an alternative for a Rolex; Seiko is not the solution.
It depends. Seiko offer watches all they want from £100 pounds to £4000-5000 which are every bit comparable to a Rolex (see the SNR spring drive divers/GMT watches, or the SLA and SJE lines). Then of course there is grand seiko, which everyone knows can easily compare to a Rolex. And above that credor that makes watches far beyond the realm of Rolex. Of course the type of brand recognition can never compare but to enthusiasts the high end Seiko models are every bit as impressive.
A hardcore copy would be a Pagani Design Explorer 2 “homage”. This particular Seiko takes the SRPJ81K1 and adds a steel bezel and GMT functionality. If you truly look at the watch and its design carefully you’ll see the case shape is different, there are no crown guards, the date window is framed, there’s no cyclops, the hand-stack is different, there’s less text on the dial, it utilizes a different style bracelet, and it sports numeric markers. The only similarities it has is a steel bezel and an orange GMT hand. Certainly, the Explorer 2 is an iconic watch to which we are all unconsciously trained to compare anything that remotely resembles it, but to call this a “hardcore copy” feels a bit inaccurate and more of a knee-jerk response.
What do you guys think of the new set by the way?! ❤
Looks great, the lighting may be just a touch too bright on the watches to where it starts to wash out some of the colors and contrast!
I just went to Seiko and took a look at the ssk025…and I’ve to say, it’s really really beautiful!!!
FYI Pvd is just a coating over stainless by the way. Nothing is made of pvd

What website did you use?
Seiko are the gift that keeps on giving.
Amen to that!
I have the white one. It wears really nicely with nato straps.

Thanks bud, really appreciate that!!
Anyone knows what website to use to get one of this from Japan
I just picked up the JDM SEIKO 5 SBSC009 Field Sports GMT Mechanical Automatic Watch .
White dial,
Yeah I agree.
Wish they would have released the JDM white dial version internationally , love the white with the pop of orange but to try to get it with going to Japan people are charging up to double the cost
I like the look and sizes of Christopher Ward better….although a bit pricier.
A bit? Lol
Good review 👌🏻love the stainless steel variant! Great watch with great features for a very affordable price!

Wristcheck: I have the Seiko Speedtimer SSC813 on my wrist! Loving the Seitona

I have the black Rolex Explorer 2 and am seriously considering this as a true beater watch
Just got the white JDM model. Love it! Plus Made in Japan.
I have white JDM I love it , switched to a strap though.
Bulova oceanographer (Devil Diver) green dial
PVD is also just a coating… Seiko doesn’t use superluminova…

Wrist check: currently wearing a Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Skin!
Orient Malo XL orange bezel
Like them both but I prefer bracelet nice models in a decent price for the money you have to pay it’s ok 👍👏
Why couldn’t it be 40 or 41? Dangit.
Tissot PRX Powermatic80 40mm glacier blue dial
been working out bro?
Yes now I have the one with strap
Better pay a bit more and get a Christopher Ward Sealander GMT (they’ve also just released a 36mm version!)
Или лучше дешевле Восток Амфибия Нептун 960762.
One good 👍 looking 5KeXplorer
Tissot PRX Green Dial
to bad the lug to lug is so high, should have been sub 45
Deception- yep
However.... 100x
Seiko Turtle 🐢 on the wrist today.

Lol it is stainless steel just pvd coated
That’s totally PVD.
Bb pro
lost me at hardlex... you can get more watch with titanium and sapphire glass with Citizen stop promoting them they dont deserve it
Its a budget Glycine Airman. Rolex itself is a copycat of glycine. Learn to give some credits & stop simping for rolex.

To much of a hardcore copy!
Everyone in the industry copies though I suppose
