@@d0grent all the glass does is keep most of the heat in and stop stuff catching on fire. The first incandescent lights didnt have the globe, just the filament. As long as you dont break the filament, the bulb will still work. Thing is, with older bulbs the filament is degraded so even small impacts can break it off. Ive accidently broken attic lights when stapling on the same joist that has a light on it, just by hammering on the joist near the bulb. I unscrew the bulbs now and lay them on the insulation when I wire up attic fans so I don't break the bulb. Most likely, the bulb used in this video was relatively new, so breaking the glass wasnt enough impact to break off the filament
