- I'm super excited to be talking about this camera because I absolutely love it. Definitely my one and only medium format film camera for the foreseeable future!

I've been looking forward to this video. These Fuji mfr cameras are amazing. A professor let me barrow their 69, wanted one ever sense. I like the size of the 645 better.
I've seen the 690, it looks super cool but way too big for me to make sense. Based on what I've seen the 645 would be better but similar to your point!
Cool fact about lenses and film/ sensor formats is that you need to multiply the aperture and focal length by the film/ sensor dimension or crop factor relative to 35mm film, also known as full frame. That is why your medium format Fujifilm here has an F4.0 lens, which you multiply by 0.6(medium format crop factor at 6x45) and it's actually F2.4 - Same goes for comparing other formats to 35mm(full frame - 1.0 crop factor) aps-c cameras usualy have a 1.5x crop factor that is used to multiply BOTH focal length and f-stop to give you a fare and square comparison :)
Thats only the relative aperture but on the exposure of the film its the same aperture.
Nearly all of the camera related discussion here addresses the general pros and cons of using a rangefinder camera. that is, a generic discussion, using the GS645S to illustrate a point or two. If you want to find out anything about this camera's specifics. look elsewhere. I think this is because she has little experience with the camera, has not informed herself of its details, apart from watching a few YT videos - clearly, she hasn't bothered to read the user manual for the camera. If what you see here caused you to seek a GS645S, here are a couple of key points to consider. The shutter has no "bulb" setting if you are used to that shutter function. There is an odd "time" shutter function which is unique to Fuji MF cameras of that generation, but not as workable. The lens is so vulnerable to physical damage that working "behind" the crash bar is imperative. Any hit of any sort on the lens is likely to break the threads in the focusing helix and break the shutter linkage. Many, if not most, of these cameras seen used today are going to have rough focusing. No parts; no repairs, just drop and forget it. To attempt a shade tress repair of these problems, you have to pull two plastic plugs on the front of the camera which cover access screws. They will be destroyed removing them, so if you see distorted plugs, that is a sign of a bad repair attempt - drop it and forget it. I've owned two GS645 (first one stolen), a GS645W and a GA645Zi - big fan of these cameras, but I've never owned a GS645S, and I never will. If you really want a GS645S, buy the GA645 instead. Same lens, auto-focus; auto-exposure. Although newer and more high tech, the GA645 commonly costs the same as a GS645S, or only a few bucks more. Go figure.
Thank you for the valuable information! And you're right, I don't go into the technicality behind the cameras I use because there are plenty of resources that do it better. I have always been big on sharing how i use different cameras here on my channel and how they fit into my own workflow. Being a youtube user manual is simply just not the niche I plan to go into/am in with this channel. Have a great day!
Thank you.
A few minutes in and hearing a camera is easy to load an unload then you pretty much realise there's some people out there who still have difficulty putting a sweater on.....😂
Have you had any issues with the camera since this video ? Also nice money back there!
I have not but to be honest, I haven't really shot it too too much!
If you are looking for a more portable version with a much better protected lens, you could look for a GS645 without a letter behind it. It's a foldable design with a faster 75mm lens, which is much easier to transport. Besides that, it's the same camera as yours. I have bought one of those just this week (and I'm an Olympus shooter myself 😉).
Yes i've seen those as well! When I got the GS645S it was because it was available but the GS645 was definitely another top option.
I have a konica pearl 2 that is even way cheaper(like 4 to 5 times cheaper) and smaller camera. the only con I can see on those camera is the viewfinder is smaller and lack of parallax correction lines. my close up pictures framing can go off a little. but it has very good lens that is almost as good as fujifilm gs645.
This video convinced me to buy one. Just arrived today
Ah so fun!
which film lab do you use?
Indie Film Lab :) They're the best!
Thanks for this. I have had my eye on this camera for years now. I always wanted a more portable MF camera compared to my heavy and large Hasselblad V series gear and the Fuji checks all the right boxes.
I can't recommend this camera enough! The only other one I've considered is the GA645 because it can shoot automatic but is still super similar.
Heavy? RB67 heavy. 501c and an 80 is really good.
Even lighter Rolleicord. Now that's a good one to go get
@@Zetaphotography I don't think anyone is talking about the RB67. My comment was comparing the V series Hasselblad bodies and lenses I own compared to the GA645 for portability, and since you mentioned it, most likely a bit lighter than the Rollie TLRs although a sweet kit.
Fantastic! I really need a GS645S! Great pictures and love that Hopey made an appearance!
The true star of the show!
Damn, I paid about $175 for mine
I think, there's a Bronica camera of this type that has ability to swap lenses. On the other hand, it's been said it's really hard to find it and even more hard to get fixed if something gets broken...
Can't even imagine the repair price too!
this is such a helpful, informative review. lots of sample images and youre speaking really well from experience. thanks so much!!
Thank you so much!
Fantastic video! Really a magnificent camera! Thanks for sharing your great pics and your experience with it. I have a Canonet rangefinder and have shot so many black frames from the lens cap being on! And the patch focusing is hit or miss in both well let and poorly lit scenes. Thanks for sharing the tip about high contrast areas easier to focus 🙏
Enjoy the camera!!👍
THank you Matt! And haha good to know i'm not the only one who has wasted film that way 😂
Great review! :)
How much did you buy this for. I'm interested in one
$500 used on facebook marketplace!
Enjoyed the video. Cute dog. What kind is it?
She's a chihuahua/dachshund mix!
I've been eyeing this camera since my RB67 has been such a pain to carry everywhere. Might pull the trigger on this model
it's a great option for sure!
Please stop saying 6 x forty five
Thats what the top of the camera says.
This is true! But I believe the commenter pointed it out because it’s actually 6 x 4.5 and not 6 x 45, so point taken on my end :)
