2:45 You can see how the distortion is warping here. I've noticed the same thing on the 24mm, the profile correction in C1 actually changes throughout the focus range.
I'm always glad to hear about any focus breathing, it's not just for video! Focus stacking for wide angle landscapes are annoyingly affected by focus breathing. Thanks guys!
Yeah, focus stacking, if you asked me, this is a pretty bad lens for landscape if you a lot of focus stacking, and he never even mentioned the massive massive distortion and the heavy vignette if you do a lot of interior and architecture, the two biggest take away from this lens.
Hi Chris & Jordan. Thank you for the Sigma 20mm Len’s review. I am a fan of your Wotancraft Pilot bag. I have this & the Wotancraft Trooper. I believe they are some of the best camera bags in the industry. Thank you both for all of the great videos that you share with the photo/video community. Cheers!
If this video was shot with either the new GH6 or Olympus' new camera, I have to say those skin tones look very weird indeed. Anyone else notice this? It seems like cell-phone quality smoothing on the faces ramped up to 100.
I wouldn't say that focus breathing isn't a big deal in still especially when it comes to shooting landscapes since if you try to do focus stacking with a lens like this that breathes hard it would be next to impossible.
Not next to impossible, just annoying. I've done tons of focus stacks with heavily breathing lenses. You just have to make sure you do your framing where the fov is narrowest, which may be at the closest focusing distance.
The majority of breathing happens going from close focus (in this case really rather close) to infinity. Not much occurs when going from say a few meters to infinity. This is something people seem to forget when talking about breathing.
Not impossible but just a lot of crop. Sony introduced new breathing correction feature which is a handy but unfortunately only for selected cameras and lenses
Is it just me or the video color grading seems a bit off? Like the overall tone is a bit too warm, the colors look washed out and the highlight might be a bit too low or less contrast?
Watching this gave me an idea. We really need a Canadatown in Germany, that is all hockey and poutine with maple sirup and the people all being friendly. For real tho: what a stunning landscape. Oh and I love your content. Nice reviews. Thanks a lot!

You don't test for distortion and vignetting? Dustin Abbott does and found the results with this lens quite troubling. Mustachioed barrel distortion and heavy vignetting far into the frame. He advises Sony shooters to get the Sony 20.
@@rsmith02 Heavy vignetting lifted results in visible noise. I don't know if profiles will completely correct the barrel distortion. Definitely not for jpeg shooters.
Great review. Some other reviewers pointed out excessive vignetting and barrel distortion but they were testing on Sony E-mount cameras. Is it possible the L-mount version has a better correction profile?
It shouldn't matter for the lens review; distortion and vignette can always be removed in post, at a certain cost in noise and resolution in the affected areas. The lens has the qualities and flaws that it has, independent of which edits you or an algorithm choose to do in post.
DPR have changed their testing regime to include in camera corrections which better mimics real world usage. As more and more lenses are designed specifically to take advantage of camera corrections.
I only wish third party offerings would reach out to the Canon RF mount. The Canon STM line is starting to fill out but nothing like some competition and pressure. Option lead to competition and better products and us consumers end up winners.
@@npmrc Nah the dof is to shallow for a phone and the only thing that kinda looks bad is the skin. Wouldn't be surpised if Pana added some skin filter like the Sony Zv-1.

I would guess the very flat light from it being overcast in pretty much every shot. Edit: Nevermind you might be right. Some people are speculating it might be the new Samsung S22.
Hmm, claiming this lens and the Sony 20mm f1.8 have similar optical performances. You should look at the vignetting and distortion (which makes the lens more like a 22mm lens). Also the bokeh balls are very circular on Sony at f1.8.

not really, less than 200 dollar cheaper. loses too much. smaller aperture, slower AF, heavier distortion and vignette, slightly lower sharpness in the centre. Not compatible with the Sony camera lens breathing compensation. Worse resale value retention.

I also do a lot of landscapes and some architecture . Who tells me to go for top quality? My hero in shooting landscapes is a cinematographer, Bernard Knowles.
