Lou, of all the 71 Challengers I’ve ever seen (adding many with perfect restorations) I think I love this one the most. 1st it’s an R/T car with The Hemi engine that has so many options in it (a lot of them didn’t have power windows!)...and its a survivor. With the rarest of options, the dictaphone. $300+ dollars was a lot of money to add on a car with a base sticker price a little over $3,000. Just a spectacularly rare car that you gave us the honor to see. Thx again Lou!

I am pretty sure this was my father-in-laws car. He is the one that sold it in the mid 80's. Traded hands in Iowa a couple times, came back to MN briefly then went to Chicago.

Beautiful car and amazing at that. I think the holes in the trunk you were looking at were for a luggage rack while the 4 round holes (2 on each side) between the other holes were for a "Go Wing". I might be wrong on that but I think it's correct.
Hi 1967davethewave, Glad to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts on the trunk holes. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Thanks for this video, I have decided to give my 71 Challenger some upgrades. The guy I bought it from 12 years ago, did a few things that did not make sense. Started last week "12-01-2018" and I can use this video as a reference. You have a Beautiful original car, Thums Up. FYI I have a YT vidoe of my car :-).....
I gotta say - anyone complaining about the original paint on this car needs to keelhauled. LoL. Looks great! Any car that doesn't look faded at this age of a car is awesome! This is the best kind of classic - one that doesn't need restoring! Well - aside from replacing a few start parts, I mean. Yeah! This dictaphone has a mic with it! Way Kewl Thanks for pointing this car out to me, Lou! This is definitely another Wow-Factor Car!
Very pretty color! Weirdly optioned car but nice original automobile. I have heard of the Dictaphone in the Chrysler cars back then but never saw one in a vehicle. He sure loves his mopars as I have seen other nice old mopars that you have produced for us. Thanks Lou!
Hi Steve Flad, The "Dictaphone" option today is such a fun option to see :-) Thank you for picking up on that. Yes, this car is amazing, and Tom's wonderful regarding sharing his cars with us on the Channel to view. You're welcome, Lou

As optioned, that has got to be 1 of 1. Crazy! Surprised it didn't have the electronic ignition package. Everything I've read says the 71 Hemi and Six Pack cars came std with that. The dictaphone radio package was crazy expensive at the time, costing as much as a/c on some models. My friend had a 72 Charger SE with 1 in it factory installed. His mic was goofed up though, and never worked. Very neat car shown here!
Feeling like we have to defend the sound of our stock 71 Hemi Challenger with 11,000 miles on it. We should all have that problem. LOL. I like 70 but 71 is my favorite body style even though they are basically the same it's just those fake rear quarter louvered inlets and the grill and a few other minor changes that make the 71 my favorite although I wouldn't Kick a 70 to the curb or 72 to 74 for that fact. :-) but I remember when a lot of people did on the 72 through 74 and you really couldn't give a 72 through 74 Challenger or Cuda away because output on engines dropped in 71 a little but in 72 they took a huge nose dive ( thanks Oil Embargo and insurance companies ) and stayed that way for about next two decades on all cars. Oh how the times have changed :-). Another great story Lou
Pretty blue on this one, I like the striping. Always love originals, very special! The dictaphone in a car is something I haven't seen yet... didn't know that was ever an option. But pretty sure even with the internet there's still a lot of dictaphone use... The heat shield is new for me too. N gotta love a Hemi. I enjoyed the video, interesting story. Thank you!
Hi WickedFireFly13, Yeah, the Dictaphone option was a new one to me too, so when I saw it, I was thinking, "what in the world is this doing in a Hemi Challenger?" I could see it in the back of a Rolls Royce or big Cadillac. Always interesting. Thank you for viewing and sharing, it's such a treat. You're welcome, Lou

About 5 years ago I was in the market for a Challenger,l only had 10,000 to spend and that included shipping it. I wanted a 70,for that amount I couldn't find a decent 70,but there was nice 72-74 Chally's with v8's,but there was this one, one owner 6cyl repainted b5 blue originally b3,long story short I picked it up for $8,200 and $900 to ship ,people don't think much of it when they find out it has a 6,but l don't regret it at all.ln the beginning l thought I could just change the grill out of a 72-74 and found out that is a lot harder than l thought,71 is my favorite now, nice car by the way.

Hard to believe you could purchase these cars for $3500-4000 back in the day. And now you need just a few million to purchase them today...Why did they put such an ugly steering wheel on these cars??? I would have gone with a GT rally wheel instead...
Wow an unrestored original hemi challenger and with very rare options I'm blown away thanks lou 👍👍👍
Hi David R, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Me too. You're welcome, Lou

Good eye Lou ! Trunk lid with spoiler OPTIONS mount hole OPENINGS is a replacement. No T/A or "GO WING" (1970 optional Mustang looking), nor 71 "Gull Wing" (curved tips, non adjustable pedestals) are on this car. And IF it did HAVE one, it'd be code on fender, and HE would find one, and have it installed with correct hardware. Dealer install over the counter would require THIS lid (different part #), installed on the assembly line. As is, likely replaced at some point, with this wrong one. @@loucostabile i did thanks
Just the sound of the car is music to my ears. It's worth more in the factory stock condition than if it were modified. Leave it the way it is. It's already a low 13 second car right from the factory. It's probably worth somewhere between 300 g's to 1/2 M.
Hi Rick, Happy to read "Just the sound of the car is music to my ears" :-) I agree, Lou
Badass
:-)
I actually have this car in Real Racing 3
Nice !
They are only original once, use this as a benchmark for future restorations

Glad you enjoyed this one :-)
:)
I think Lou said it best "This is it people."
Thank you MOSSY HOLLOW :-) Lou
This thing looks like it was kept in a time capsule
Hi David B, It's pretty cool :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
I want it. Seriously.
You have great taste in cars James C :-) Lou
Well you must admit, this car is beyond desirable. It's the ultimate, the best, the most amazing car you can own.
Never have to defend the Holy Grail.
:-)
Is this car fun to drive on highway and abandoned racetrack???
Hi Danny The Count, Lets go! :-) Lou
Whats in Your Wallet ? I can only guess this car is big money.
Hi bluesharp59, All original....Yeah, this ones a show stopper for sure :-) Lou
My recording would be: note to self, keep this car for decades then sell it for 2.5 million.
Good strategy :-) Now the difficult part, exactly which car to keep?
And how many mpg on highway
Not much.
That thing is probably so quick. Puts rice burners to shame
Hi Bluppy Eastman, With a factory stock 425 HP it's fun :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
11,482 original miles! Or has it turned over once and is (1)11,482 miles? Car still looks very original probably kept in climate controlled garage.
It's 11,482
What's not to like! Mid 6 figures I'll assume.
Hi kanukster, Glad you enjoyed this one :-) Not sure about the price, however a great car for sure :-) Lou
Hard to believe you could purchase these cars for $3500-4000 back in the day. And now you need just a few million to purchase them today...Why did they put such an ugly steering wheel on these cars??? I would have gone with a GT rally wheel instead...
Would have been nice to have picked one up way back when.
