Limited editions make so much sense for small businesses/artists who can’t crank out designs en masse and who might want to move on from having the same design at each drop. Also limited edition print runs makes the print more “valuable” so the artist can sell it for more

It is incredibly catchy, but I think not accurate to the question she is asking. Like, Newton didn't explain where gravity came from, but his equations described how it worked and affected the world. Economics doesn't explain where demand comes from, but is meant to explain how demand impacts us, with the supply and demand graphs showing how it should move. Of course, physics assumes perfectly spherical cows with no friction, and econ graphs do similar for money, so yeah it feels really disconnected from anything in reality.

I think limited drop culture is more egalitarian than luxury pricing BUT I actually think the most 'fair' way to generate exclusivity is time-limited preorder windows. It doesn't require as much risk from the artist so it feels, to me, like a great way to allow fans with slower internet connections to still get a piece of whatever it is. And let's be real: some products have truly niche appeal and shouldn't be permanently clogging up the merch shop for an artist.

On one hand I agree with you whole-heartedly, it's very important to develop critical thinking and apply it on everything that surrounds us, especially when your guard is down because you're emotionally invested in your fav creator.
On the other hand I personally feel it's precisely because of this emotional bond that there should be a clear-cut line between ad and non-ad. Or, if you are becoming an ad yourself, to say it (which is becoming increasingly common these days with the commoditication of one's life, experiences and feelings). The lines are beginning to be blurred so much that the audience / consumers might be taken advantage of and become confused even if they're smart...
Willingly gloss over key facts is per se a dangerous form of manipulation...
Laws regulating advertisement were born to prevent precisely this kind of confusion.

"As someone who is in Europe" kinda just begs the question... Why are the things you want not in Europe?
The easy answer is of course because were hermits and live exclusively on the internet which is America centric.
But the question still happens right? Every time I hear someone talk about "boosting the local business" they almost always mean boosting the local business in America, supporting that infrastructure. Never seen anyone talk about supporting locals in a foreign country because that's... just a thing people do anyway because people in foreign countries are either somehow magically fiscally responsible or they are the international business owners who don't have to give a crap... right?

I, personally, don't care that it's limited. I'd like it for it's functionality. Anyone that bought it and used it front to back, also can't buy another one, which kind of defeats the long term purpose of the design. As a librarian & longtime Sabrina/AIP viewer, I’ve got a few things I want to say here:
    1. Thanks for the library shoutout! Your description did make me feel old, but also felt accurate and I will be adding it into my rotation of self-deprecating comments I say when trying to convince my students (I work at a community college) to actually use our library.
    2. As an academic librarian who is often responsible for helping students learn how to research, this is the kind of product that I would include in my required books list (if they let me teach a whole course on research, which they do not... yet)!
    3. If you are looking for collaborators in the future, I highly recommend reaching out to your local college/university libraries and library & information science schools/departments (try the iSchool at U Toronto, or I can recommend someone at the iSchool at UBC and at a few US and UK institutions). When asked what they teach you in library school, I usually summarize it as “how to research” - we spend a lot of time thinking about how people search/find, choose, and use information. Research process stuff is VERY relevant to our interests!

I'm so glad a digital copy is being sold. I only do research on my tablet and never print out my sources anymore so I was already looking for a journal in PDF format. It's also great to see that the physical copy almost immediately sold out. The "I can't have it" factor is gone because I still get the information I wanted by buying the physical copy. Since you mentioned you forgot to add profit to your product, I hope the sale of the digital copies makes up for it. Thank you for this video, I found it very informative and it definitely answered the question in the caption.

This video made me cry lmao. I’m so fascinated by how the human brain works which is why I am in marketing. When you boil down everything from all the noise, marketing is simply just telling the story of why you created your business. That’s literally it. You branch out into different mediums communicating that story whether it’s on social media promoting your products or on a billboard but the underlying principle stays the same. We are suckers for stories we relate to, we support brands whose values align with ours. This was such an amazing video, I would absolutely be down to buy this notebook.

I think this is partly why a lot of board games on Kickstarter sell so well. They're only around for about a month, and many are limited edition, include a limited edition component, or are a deluxe version that won't be available again. This last point is the case for Brandon Sanderson's current project, which has made over $38 million.

Then there's the most "limited drop" item of all: fine art 🖼️ No matter how technically dubious it turned out, its rarity (there's only one) combined with a compelling story (famous artist, recovered from unsolved thefts, people died over it, etc) means its seller can pitch practically any price and still find that one person up on the edge of the y-axis who will buy it anyway 💸

Demand from a business standpoint comes from an idea or lack of options or solutions to potential or perceived problems in our society.
Demand from a personal perspective comes from a want or need to have something that you may think enhances your life be it through personal growth or personal/shared entertainment, novelty or social reasons. To be show that you identify as part of community, or just to show appreciation to the person or persons involved like some form of silent solidarity. I buy games because I value the entertainment, I make educational games because kids all over are struggling and there needs to be options out there that address making education more fun for young ones.
I am making choices for what users need/want but some of those choice come from data that is either direct or indirectly gathered for x amount of time.
I make personal games to just showcase something I enjoyed or missed now that i'm an adult and don't have as much free time as i did when i was a kid.
Other times I create something and put it out hoping that people will want to gain a little more insight into who I am or what i have to say. Maybe they will want to hear more about and learn from my life and my stories.
Sometimes we make/buy to belong sometimes we make/buy to be heard,
and Sometimes I just need to buy a wall charger because my computer will die if i don't buy one.
i love your channel and i hope you keep it going as long as your happy with it.

(Good) libraries are underrated in my opinion. Sure people might say "but the internet has all the information in one place for easy access" no it freaking doesn't. Maybe it did in 2002, when there were like 12 websites in total, but nowadays if you want to do research on something more specific than a Wikipedia article (no hate to that project, I can't count how many school asignments it got me through), a library often takes the win.

@@pablopereyra7126 My problem with libraries is that they are not made equal (some libraries are better than others) and they don't exist in all places. Imagine being a researcher and found out that the reference you are looking for is located two provinces and one city away and you HAVE to fill in some paperwork because that is what the library requires, and sometimes the library can straight up say no for any reason it sees fit. So, the internet is pretty much more favored by the general public due to being available all the time and being easy to use (as long as you know where and what to type)...
