people are stupid a turbine engine is obviously not going to respond or accelerate as quick as a recip, but for the speed that it can reach it is much more efficient. What amazes me is how they were able to hook it up to a transmission like that

Waylon Quiggle mate listen. Im not angry at you for being dumb. You cant help it! But let me tell you that jet engines dont work like combustion engines do. They dont shift, they just push the mass (in this case a car) as fast as they can.
Again, you're just dumb but it doesnt matter!

In 1992 Ian Sharp designed a Turbine generator car for Le Mans that ran on LNG whilst he was at Chrysler. It was called "The Patriot" and included mechanical Flywheel energy recovery & storage.(Power). For energy storage (Density) it used NiCad batteries. Lithium Ion battery technology did not exist in production form at that time, but it did include GPS, which was in its infancy plus track mapping to to turn the turbine/power "on" when energy was required in the system. The LNG was used for 2 reasons. One - the calorific (burn) power density of the fuel, and Two - to use the Cryogenic energy imparted to the fuel, as it is another type of energy, to cool the electronics on the car from the waste energy that they produce to gasify the fuel for the turbine use, and to 2x the efficiency of the electronic systems. It was designed as a closed loop energy system, and still would win Le Mans this day with the advances in materials and Technology. Furthermore, because of the reduced heat rejection requirements of the vehicle (closed loop of energy), it was proposed in a phase 2 to uses a unique surface cooling system in the undercar surface area (Think Spitfire) and "The Meredith Effect". If more information is required please contact Ian Sharp at ...ian.sharp@hybine.com...

Its very difficult to variate rpm in a turboshaft engine. The governours are not made to have usable rpm range from 1000-40000K rpm and neither the power plant has. Its mostly fixed rpm usage + smaller internal adjustments. And that is not applicable for cars where you variate your rpm 400-500% every few secs.

A jet engine is inherently bad for a car since a turbomachine is always designed for one specific point of operation. You have a little bit of wiggle room with variable guide vanes but in the end you will still have a completely different air flow at 10 mph than at 200 mph and thus it has be be worthless at one of those.

  • @FGKaye

You need to add an electric drive, you could call it the " Eco Jet H ". H is for Hybrid.
This will help in 2 ways: 1. It will eliminate the turbine throttle lag &
    2. It will increase the fuel efficiency, while increasing the Low Speed acceleration of the car.

Something that we have skipped in vehicle evolution the jet engine . Jaguar made noises in 2010 with the bladon micro jet hybrid electric car engine .
Never quoted official mpg figures but would have seriously reduced government tax revenue if it had taken off and went into production across the range . the twin super car version had been estimated around 50-69mpg in 2010 . A basic single micro jet engine running at normal family car economy mode probably double the mpg combined with latest batteries and charging technology probably looking at 100+mpg easily .with a 8000hours service intervals and just as easy to replace the micro jet engine for another at service .it wouldn't have been a profitable service repair service model for jaguar . it was killed off . bladon are producing micro jet engine and use them as back up generation for the telecommunications industry .

  • @ICeyCeR3Al

a car with actual jet propulsion? Well even super cars with very powerful piston engines have a crazy kick if you slam the pedal. I have seen a couple of those maximum speed runs and drivers usually don't depress the pedal entirely till they are 150 MPH+. So i guess a jet propulsion engine would be no different.
