@talkingAfrica, I heard that the 1972 coup of Acheampong was carried out in order to bring Nkrumah back of which Nkrumah considered but Sekou Toure advised him against that idea. Will you mind commenting on that? Thanks for being there!

    • @talkingAfrica

Acheampong was pro-Nkrumah and yes, it is believed he wanted to bring Nkrumah back. But, Nkrumah was then very ill and was soon to die in the same year. In fact, he had been unwell for a long period before his death.
His literary secretary, June Milne talks about how she believes he was poisoned.

Sékou was as generous as Nyerere was. I remember to have heard the late Miriam Makeba saying she spent some time in exile in Guinée at the height of Apartheid in South Africa.

My favourite Kwame Nkrumah quote is: “I have often been accused of pursuing ‘a policy of the impossible’. But I cannot believe in the impossibility of achieving African unity anymore than I could ever have thought of the impossibility of achieving African freedom. Africa must unite, we have before us not only an opportunity but a historic duty”. (Africa Must Unite, 1963).
