I knew Randy in the early early years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, He was always the best, always won the battles. We all LOVED him here in his home town. What a terrible loss.
Proud to say I'm a fellow Albuquerquean I met him in his final years at a bar on Central called Brewster's pub. He was polite and non arrogant even though he was wearing experience clothes and jewelry. He treated his lady nice and made time for everyone. RIP
Randy , rest his soul was one of the best drummers I have ever seen live. Seen him twice for the Ultimate Sin and No More Tears tours. What a privilege that was for me.
Man, I miss Randy. I still remember the first time I saw him in an ad for Tama Crestar drums in a 1987 edition of Modern Drummer. Then I heard “The Ultimate Sin.” I was hooked on that sound and his groove on some seriously heavy music. All these years later, Randy is still missed in the drumming community. RIP, man. You were taken way too soon.
This was the first drum solo I ever saw, I was about 9 yrs old... I've been a drummer for 27yrs now... His drumming was so amazing.. Love and Respect to your Uncle Randy and his family.
I have his starlicks drumming video on VHS, he was what got me started into drumming...was a total badass, if anyone finds his Drumming video pick it up and watch his skill, far more then what he showed with ozzy most of the time.
Randy was a fantastic drummer. I had the honor of seeing him perform live a few times. He died of cancer in 2002, and yes he did play on the No More Tears cd.
I met Mr. Castillo in Sacramento at an Ozzy/Vixen/White Lion show. He was backstage sitting all by himself on some road cases. He's a very nice, mellow, down to earth fellow. RIP, drummer. If there's a rock and roll heaven, then you know they have a hell of a band.
I remember seeing Randy with Ozzy when Ozzy headlined at the Monsters Of Rock festival at Castle Donington here in the UK, in 1986! It just blew me away!! What a magical night! God bless you Randy, my friend! You were, and always will be, simply incredible!! We miss you! R.I.P (:o(
I'm a guitar player have been since Randy Rhoads got me to pick up a guitar back in the early 80's but I saw Randy Castillo a few times w/ Ozzy and w/ Crue. and he was the attraction everytime. He commanded the spotlight with his playing, tricks and his showmanship.. RIP RC
this is great. his drumming is different, i especially like those long small tom-like things to the rite of his drum set he plays on. i like the sounds of his snare too. RIP randy
Absolutely loved his style of drumming, what an honor to have a Tribal member be part of such a huge Rock N’ Roll band!! Got the privilege to see him with Mötley Crüe in the late 90s’
So... you want stories?? I GOT SOME STORIES!!! I guess I'll start with this one here... Tuesday, July 25th, 1989 - Ozzy Osbourne, White Lion, & Vixen at DEER CREEK-$0.00 I was working on Indianapolis' east side as the night DJ at Babes East Showclub (4 1/2 months into what became a 14 year run, 3-13-89 to 4-10-03, thank you very much!) and the week before the OZZY OSBOURNE - NO REST FOR THE WICKED Tour show was to happen, Ozzy was called on an emergency back to England for a death in the family or something, and this left the whole crew with nothing to do in a strange town for 4 or five days, so several of them were spending time in the bar. To make a long story short, at a roadies request, I hooked them up with some "party supplies" (in 1989...you figure it out.) and scored me a ticket and a backstage pass to this show, where I was able to meet every member of all three of the bands EXCEPT FOR OZZY HIMSELF!!! I was standing on the side of the stage near the back at the end of the show, and as OZZY and the band walked off right past me the irreplaceable Randy Castillo gave me this PAIR of drumsticks that he had JUST USED to play this show!!! I scanned them for you here... He's gone now, but never forgotten!! I also spoke to Zakk Wylde for a moment, and as we spoke he put this pick in my hand!! Man, that was an awesome show! FOLLOW THIS LINK FOR THE PIC!! facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10217812489760301&set=gm.3377025365726720
.... R.I.P. Randy Castillo - Millions of records sold, Thousands of gigs played and for sure a lot of fans. Try to have someone say the same for you when you die.
@anibalserenelli those are Tama Octobons, based on the old Canon Toms, and yes, he could really beat the shit out of 'em!!! Saw him twice with Ozzy and once with Pat Travers in Vegas, RIP Randy!
Now...that was creative! Interesting use of his foot on the drum set when he drops Mary Had a Little Lamb (Merrily we roll along) in the mix of the solo. (1:56...)
...That's what it's all about. Not speed, not technique! The difference between them and someone like the person who made the last comment wich i assume came from a drummer (but for sure not a MUSICIAN) is that they know when to put their enourmous technique to use and their fans don't. ...
randy Castillo and jimmy (The Rev) Sullivan were my fave drummers ever, and now they are both dead. surly other people can see the similarity between the two R.I.P
There are great drummers - Lars being one. Then technicians & innovators. Its personal choice and all have our faves. Mine are Tim 'Herb' Alexander - Primus. Jean Paul Gaster - Clutch. Oh and drummer out of Toy Dolls playing Nelly the Elephant. Happy days
Justin Hawkins Herb and JP are amazing. I was rocking Strange Cousins from the West on the way to work today. Tim was what got me into Primus. I named my cat Tommy when I was a teen.
Im only 22 years old and i reckon 80's drummers were the best drummers out of every decade...besides John Bonham. Randy Castillo, Alex Van Halen, Ansley Dunbar, Mick Brown and so on, fuckin shits on all the metal drummers these days. Most drummers these days have no feel and all they do is just try and play as fast as they can, theres no groove or personality, its the same as guitar players these days as well.
This is who Ozzy Ozbourne should have had on the Black Sabbath Fair well tour he was the only drummer that could play Bill Ward's stuff well had he been alive
I'm very proud of Randy Costello. He was a proud member of my Indian tribe Pueblo of Isleta, from Isleta New Mexico. RIP brother
He was one of my favorites too.
CASTILLO. Randy Castillo.
I knew Randy in the early early years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, He was always the best, always won the battles. We all LOVED him here in his home town. What a terrible loss.
I saw this tour. Randy was awesome. Best drummer Ozzy ever had. RIP
Proud to say I'm a fellow Albuquerquean I met him in his final years at a bar on Central called Brewster's pub. He was polite and non arrogant even though he was wearing experience clothes and jewelry. He treated his lady nice and made time for everyone. RIP
The drum solo was my favorite part of the Ultimate Ozzy video. R.I.P. Randy.
Miss You every Day randy RIP King of the Skins
Randy , rest his soul was one of the best drummers I have ever seen live. Seen him twice for the Ultimate Sin and No More Tears tours. What a privilege that was for me.
Me too, saw him in 1989 with Ozzy in Brussels, Belgium.
RIP, man. You were taken way too soon.
i had a awesome uncle! ( yes he's my uncle!)

Wow!!! Absolutely amazing!!! Rest In Peace, Mr. Castillo. You were taken from the world way too soon, but you are still blowing people’s minds.
RIP RC
