In every Mount Shrine album there is a calmer and more peaceful ending like in Ghosts on broken pavement: Inescapable Rain, Winter restlessness: Exile and now Hindmost Flood takes a quieter approach on an ending with rain that for ever entrances me.
You're walking through a snow covered forest just after a harsh blizzard and you come upon a clearing in the trees which leads to a cliff overlooking a boreal valley. Its overcast but not snowing, its probably about 4 or 5pm, the sun just hovering above the horizon telling you the day's end is near. You cant see the sun directly, but you can tell by the hues of the clouds shifting as you look deeper towards the valleys end. You dont remember your reason for going there, but it reminds you of a place you've been to a long time ago. Since then, people have come and gone in your life. You feel no particular attachment to anything, but a slight sense of longing.. longing to be somewhere with someone. It burns away at your core being, but you're unable to grasp whatever it is. Then the birch trees sway in a gentle, frigid wind and you hear a faint howl of a lone wolf, probably just as lost as you are. Looking to belong somewhere. You shed a tear as a wave of nostalgia hits you. Who are you? I wish I could remember something for once..
I was listening to this while waiting in line to go inside the mall to buy food and everything for the week. It was perfect for that apocalyptic "portrait of the new italian people ": sad and tired faces,half covered by the white masks,while we were used to chat even with unknown people,greeting the friends with hugs,kisses and "hiiii,look at you! What a beautiful outfit!!!" and turning the shopping into an occasion of fun and gossipy meeting.... Now : stay one meter far from the others. :-( That damn Covid19…a real dictator,nevertheless....
It was 26°C in my location two days ago. Now it's cold and snowing ... what's up with this environment? Also, love your music. It really fits in these unusual snowy days...
