Just saw this. I grew up in Kansas in the 1960s.
There were credible fears of nuclear attacks. Great Duck and Cover exercises at my grade school.
My next door neighbor built a nuke shelter.
    Some people laughed.
    But we didn't
because our small houses had no basements.
Fall out shelters make great Tornado shelters!
Kansas is of course in the middle of Tornado Alley.
We used the shelter quite often when tornado alerts happened!
Tornadoes love to eat mobile homes and houses with no basements.
Today Tornado alerts are issued more accurately and with greater time before the tornadoes strike. So people have time to make it to their shelter.
All mobile homes should have access to an emergency shelter like this one!
    Thanks

Great for a desert homestead, half the trouble starting a desert home is scavengers stealing from site. If i had one of these structures half built out, i could store my gear/building tools when out of town. Eventually turn the bunker into a guest home and air bnb the property up top.

  • @virginiapicker

Idk much but are the air pipes the life line of the bunker? Would be interesting to see how they can be hidden via a hedge, false yard ornament, ran into a small shed, through a wall and to a roof maybe? Idk. Just thinking big. What happens if someone on the outside wants in and jams it? All that being said love your work Ron! Wish I could afford one. Keep up the good work brother!

I noticed no escape hatch on this one.
Was thinking, for the external hatch face, where the padlock goes, is an issue for me. What if some joker puts a padlock, or even just a bit of wire, through when you are in your bunker, is there a way to still open the hatch from the inside? The last thing I would want is to get all cozied up, find out it’s a false alarm, but be locked in my bunker with no way out.

    • @freddiestinson1117
      @freddiestinson1117 2 года назад +17

Actually you can't lock someone in by locking the hatch because there is a pin on the inside that can be pulled out to release the bar connected to the lock tongue. I used to work at underground tunnels at a grain mill that had these emergency pullout pins on the inside of the locked hatches so the workers could escape if the main exit was blocked for any reason.

Second, won't the air valve just be again, destroyed by the blast? Third, won't the escape tunnel leak through radiation? What is the overpressure valve for, and can you survive in the bunker while being inside the fireball?
