My parents used to own a clothing store a long time ago. They had to steam a lot of clothes before hanging after they made a massive buy at market. Eventually, they got us kids to do it for them. One technique that worked really well and worked much faster was to steam from the inside of the garments, with long, straight strokes. This was also a way to prevent any over steaming, water stains, or burn marks on the outside of the garment. 😊
Former NYer born and raised! I'm always amazed how people decorate such small spaces. Your apartment is so beautiful and light. My sister has wallpaper in her office of her rental. She actually added it to MDF board and purchased quarter round for the sides!
Wonderful job decluttering!❤ I used to live in a 550 sq ft home and I loved it because it gave me so little room to store clutter. 😊I need to get back to that mindset.
Hi Kirsten, I loved this vid❣️ I too am feeling a strong compulsion to declutter. While I'm not a minimalist, "things" not only occupy my physical space, but mental as well. In fact, decluttering does wipe us out because there is such emotional energy accompanying our belongings! But in the end, the sense of release and accomplishment is palpable! 🫠Great job getting real with your stuff and purging so admirably! 💫✨️🌟
Girl what... a decluttering video and from YOU? 2 of my fav things!!! Ahhh I'm so excited to watch, I love decluttering and I love your videos so yaaaay 😍😍😍😍😍😍🩷🩷🩷
Aw thank you guys ❤️ I've been struggling to find the motivation to vlog these days but hopefully I can get back to a more consistent vlogging schedule - i miss my youtube fam!!
I wish I could go back in time to my 20s-30s, when I didn't own all the junk I own today. You've inspired me to declutter and go back to living a more peaceful life. I used to be like you and somewhere along the way I lost my neatness! Thanks for showing us that it can be done!
Wow - you make me question my life choices! My husband and My closet is atrocious! His t-shirts and sneakers alone is like 50 percent of our closet! LOL. I would have kept all those blazers! lol
Love the placement of the mirror in the corner and the addition of the one in the kitchen. It makes the space look larger and brighter, because the light reflects off of the small mirror onto the picture frames and the large mirror catches the light from the window! You could repurpose the art work that you were going to sell and make another gallery wall using one to cover the utility box, Another idea would be to display some floating shelves for some pretty dishes or plants.Perhaps you can add a very narrow bookcase and sit it on that dresser to extend the eye upward and give you more storage space. Try some baskets to hide your bits and bobs. Love your space, it’s very soothing and represents you well.
Thank you for all the ideas! Ultimately I want to keep the space open rather than adding more things, but I love the idea of closed storage to contain some of the loose items!
Why not paint the utility box to exactly match the wall color? The landlord would probably love the idea. If you do paint it, remember to paint the inside of the door, too.
I agree velvet hangers are the best. Although for pants, I fold my jeans and hang all other pants in pant hangers. They're wire but have a sturdy cardboard tube where the pants hang so they don't get that crease in the middle. It's nice and round but very sturdy cardboard.
Always happy to see a new video of you and your wonderful apartment. BTW, bought the little brass and glass battery operated lamp from the link on your Amazon page (if you get something for that). I still love the candle warmer I bought from your recommendation/Amazon page, and use it daily with the IKEA Lughnare 40 hour Jasmine scented candles. So good!
Hi Kirsten!!! You look great as always! 😘 You really did an AMAZING job! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾You actually made purging look so much easier than it really is! lol I’m in the process of doing the same. I don’t recall EVER being inspired to organize and pursue on a rainy day but… I’ve been feeling inspired since this morning so I’m going with it. I sat down for a break and your video popped up. You inspired me more so…. … … lol Enjoy, stay beautiful and enjoy this beautiful rainy day! 🩶🧡🤍🫶🏽👏🏾
Thank you!! So glad you got some motivation from this one! The rainy weather has gotten me in a slump so I completely get it - I try to use these moments to fully wind down or get some much needed tasks done in the apartment. Enjoy your spring cleaning!
Here's an idea if you would like to put up wallpaper, use poster boards and apply the wall paper or maybe peel and stick tiles to the poster board. You can use double sided mounting tape to adhere the posterboard to the wall. You can then create any look you want without worrying about messing up the wall. Love your content and your apartment.
Great job Kirsten! Im in the middle of decluttering my walk in closet u can't walk into 😅 Im about half way there. Too many clothes and shoes!!! Thanks for sharing 😍
I have decluttered my apartment many times it's amazing how fast things accumulate and in apartments there's little space, I wanted to be a minimalist in my mind but having only a few pieces of clothes and shoes just is to extreme for me I love clothes and shoes but definitely try to limit my purchases and donate anything I'm not wearing or using to prevent clutter 😊
@kirstenashley2864 You're a minimalist for real. Your home is clean, clutter-free, and most importantly, you know when it's time to get rid of things. Acquiring stuff comes in cycles and it's normal; the trick is to declutter every once in a while, which you're good at.
I’ve never done it but I think I saw it somewhere, try particle board or some kind of large, lightweight piece of board and wallpaper it, then hang that on the wall. Or panels of wallpaper ( or even contact paper) framed. Just a couple of suggestions. Good luck finding that perfect solution for your space.
I love your apartment. I would not go with wallpaper for a few reasons. It's a long-term commitment. It's easy to get tired of it. It's a pain in the neck to put up and take down. You can do a renter friendly beadboard on the bottom of the wall and paint the top in a dramatic color as an accent wall. You can hide the electric box with a painting or fold a table runner over a dowel and hang the dowl by rope. Almost everyone in our old condo did that.
Thanks for the tips! I definitely have my reservations about wallpaper for those reasons but I still keep thinking about it haha I wish I could paint the wall - I love the idea of an accent wall but sadly I don't think they allow it
Command Strips work if you can't get a nail into a wall..... take that wall paper you have & wall paper the entry door!!! & hang that framed white thing you made over the panel box with command strips
It was hung there previously with command strips, I just don't like the look of the art I made anymore so I'm currently searching for something to replace it
I've always thought you could/should put a wood-like contact paper to cover your metal grey door. I think it would add so much and I just saw youtuber, Hermioni Chantal pull it off her door when she moved out of her apartment and it was a very clean removal.
I had peel and stick wallpaper in my apartment. When I moved, I took it off, and it came off easily. It probably depends on the product you're buying. Maye the cheaper ones are more damaging?
Yes!! That's the plan, I just haven't been able to find any frames that are the right size to cover the utility box, which is why I initially "made" my own with wood but I want something that looks a bit cleaner
The mirror placement is a bit much especially when vlogging, we are looking at doubles. Plus it’s between a window and tv screen. I would have left it next to the TV. Love the decluttering vlogs from you❤
@@kirsten-ashley Yes you respond but you don't click like. I just thought that was odd given that you are quite active. Still way too much crammed into that small living room IMO. Don’t forget negative space. I have a much bigger living room and have no coffee table or tv cabinet. That’s what I would get rid of. Start subtracting, not adding. That’s how you keep your space calm, relaxing and clutter free. Not every inch needs to have something in it or on it.
Nothing about her apartment feels crammed to me. It feels airy and peaceful. It's overall beautiful and inviting, which is no easy task in a small space.

You should buy some wooden hangers for your clothes. I purchased a bunch from Amazon and they make my closet and clothes look so good!!
I love the look of wooden hangers too! I went with the suede and plastic for now since they're slimmer and take up less room
@@kirsten-ashley Def smarter to stick w/the velvet hangers for space!!

So true!! I'm trying to be more selective now with purchases so I don't come across that issue
