Me father born 1889 of Scott and Scandinavian genealogy migrated to USA after WW1. I was born in 1957 and he was quite old as I grew up. Mother didnot permit TV or much radio so as a kid before he died he would sit with me in the shade of our home and yell me history of all that he knew of. He was quite knowledgeable and lit the fire of wanting to know as much as I could historically and other. He spoke of the many many families, castles, uprisings, royalty and murders throughout the histories of the UK. I soaked it all up. Thanks for giving place to many of those stories!

The best built seen so far. Built for protection, a true castle, not for grandeur…thank you for presenting this.

I'm a new subscriber and I like you very much and I like the way you present things. But just one little request? I can barely hear you over the music. If the music could be a little less loud it would be great because I really care what you have to say. Thanks again and look forward to enjoying your videos.

This was wonderful! I love castles, and you have started my education about the castles in Scotland! I was so impressed with Hermitage, as it looks clean and perfect, meaning it has no missing chunks of walls, etc. Thanks for your hard work!

I just happen to be reading John Guy’s ‘Mary Queen of Scots”, and read about her going to The Hermitage. Doesn’t seem like a very grandiose castle, and I never really thought about how dark and gloomy they would be inside. Thank you for this video - I just recently subscribed, and I’m enjoying your output. Take care.

It has a very powerful, yet sublime presence that is almost a contradiction in a sense. No question it's quite haunted, but not in the classic sense. Not sure why, but it feels like almost a sanctuary for nuns lost or wandering between this life and wherever the light takes one, but it didn't take them. Definitely more female energy than male by far. But quiet, meandering, slowly paced, yet very masculine by nature of the castle itself. Almost hallowed ground in a sense. I keep wanting to say 'Brutally peaceful', but I won't.
    Brilliant video. Thank you.

Not by me of course, because I’m poor.

On the rear of the castle, in the longest wall, there is a very large arched doorway yet it seems to be walled-up only a few feet inward. Why was there such a large arched doorway there and why is it now walled up? Generally, castles had only a single entrance that would’ve been protected by a gatehouse, and if there was a back doorway, it would’ve been a small, perhaps hidden sally port, not a a giant door without a gate house. any explanation would be appreciated. Thank you.
