That 2.5L engine is a jewel of engineering!!!
lots of great info here on the mechanical specs and what the engine uses tech wise internally. alot of stuff that was really hard to search for on my on. quick and to the point and well edited. subscribed.
It's good to see auto manufacturers starting to install port as well as the direct injectors. This should offset the intake valve carbon buildup that was plaguing direct injected engines for years.
Thanks, I bought the Premium model and have never opened the hood. I like it, I got it in Blue Stone and it is weird and pretty looking at the same time.
Have a new ‘23 Santa Cruz and this was very helpful✅
This is a rare car .it's good car in general. Very fast car
Which vehicle are you referring to
Not sure if this is a good engine or not, but NOBODY can say that Hyundai didn't do their job with the overall presentation. It looks neat, symmetrical, and eveything well laid out. A stark contract to the Japanese engines where everything is cluttered and messy.
@@philhenderson3516 cosmetics are NOT what you buy on. Smh
@@GBR1111-x2t I wasn't necessarily talking about cosmetics but rather that everything is well placed and put together which makes it easier to work on. Sure, it also looks better to the eye. Some Japanese engines are complex just for the sake of complexity so that it's harder to work on them.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sam! I recently bought a Santa Cruz Limited (turbo) and was concerned that it did not have the tow package included because I had to have the hitch installed by the dealer, and because nothing was listed on the window sticker.
You are the only reviewer who mentioned that the radiator had an over-sized fan. Thank you for that information.
Do you know if the Santa Cruz also comes with a transmission cooling system? Thank you again.
@truzak2117
How has you Santa Cruz been performing? I'm thinking of getting one.
What are you towing? How is it when towing? What kind of fuel economy do you get?
@@angelocardoc
So far I'm still loving it. I've 21k miles, and nearing 2 years old.
I get anywhere from 24 mpg to as much as 33! Typical is usually 26-28.
I tow an ATV, a fishing boat, and a 22' pontoon boat that has to weigh 3k lbs. But I live in a holler and have a very steep hill to get out. So that pontoon might be weighing 4k or more lbs. And it tows it without any struggle. I've still got peddle left if I needed it.
If you're going to be towing, I highly highly recommend getting the turbo. I was towing my ATV, doing 70mph, and had to move quickly. I got to 85mph in seconds. This truck flies, and handles almost like a sportscar.
While towing, I only get 12-15 mpg.
My only complaint is you cannot see out of the back window when backing up a trailer. I bought a camera, but doesn't help much. You're gonna have to use your side mirrors. Its not easy, at least for me.
Hope this helps.
@@Truzak Thanks.
It is the transmission that is failing, not the engines
I wish the video had shown the serpentine belt and what items were pulled by it.
Hi. Great video. But can you please tell me where is the MAF sensor?. I have the same engine and didn't find it. There is no cables on the "what appears to be MAF sensor" on the intake hose. Thank you in advance.
I replaced mine with the New K&N ! The K&N stopped the annoying Turbo Lag! Gas mileage also went up to 28/32 with my Driving habits. But I am a retired Professional Driver and know how to get the maximum mileage out of a Vehicle! It's been a long time since I have enjoyed a car /Sav . God has really Blessed us with this this little Truck.
You would be breaking the warranty with that modification.
@@soulsage1984 that's false
What turbo lag? It’s virtually nonexistent.
Turbo lag is normal. Turbo lag can only be removed through "engine management"
Ok, its 10-12-24. I want a 2025 Santa Cruz, but are they still having problems with the DCT's on the 24 or 25 models??
Thanks !!
Is this engine the same as the 2.5 in the Tucson, and can you add a turbo?.
Does it share engines with other vehicles? Reason for question is to try to put a cold air intake and a blow off valve. Thanka
Various other Hyundai models use the same engine.
Are they using fully synthetic oil?
Is it the same engine for genesis g80 2.5T ??
Great video. Just have one question. Could you show a video sometime on how to perform a DCT service on a 2022 Santa Cruz ? At least a rough visual ?
We are working arranging a way to get vehicles on a lift for video shoots. Once we have that access the kinds of things we can talk about will grow. ;)
, where are these videos you speak of
I have a 2023 Kia Sportage with the 2.5L engine, I’m curious other than the turbo, what’s the differences between the two engines. Basically is the 2.5L engine as durable as the turbo?
No. Turbo do not last as long as the naturally aspirated engines.
It is the transmission on the turbo engines you have to worry about
how reliable is this new engine and transmission? tyvm
That's hard to know, perhaps try Consumer Reports
Engine good. Turbo bad
I’m still on the fence about getting the n/a model or the turbo model. I’ve always loved turbo engines but with this vehicle, I’ve noticed the gas mileage isn’t very good with the turbo motor and I’m wondering if the price hike for the turbo model is worth it 🤔
I have a 2024 Limited and hit 30.9 mpg with the cruise set at 78 mph. Love the Cruz.
You are correct. Personally though I don’t care about having the best gas mileage so I’m ok with my SC only achieving 22-24mpg in city. The trade off is the truck is pretty quick. But if gas mileage concerns you, you’d be better off going non-turbo.
I have the 2024 Limited. I have gotten 33.9 at 78 mph. But that was premium with no ethanol.
1,000% worth it trust me when I tell you you'll regret it if you don't get the turbo version it is literally night and day as far as power and just overall drive ability
@81Todd , you forget about the DCT transmission overheating. AND the turbo going out around 60k miles.
I have a 2023 Santa Cruz, and my headlights just stopped working. The high beams and fog lights work. I think its a fuse or relay. I have read the manual and do not know which fuse or relay controls the headlights...does anyone know?
@@leonilarenaker5641 what trim ?
Bright yellow or ORANGE oil handle????
Hey can I get turbo for hyundai 2007
What was your opinion on build quality? Have you heard of any worrisome issues with it? Asking because we're considering buying one and just can't afford to pick up a lemon these days.
We have a test drive review of it linked at the end of the video.
@@TDTVGarage I couldn't find the link with the test drive. Not even on your web site:(
Ive had mine for over a year got it right off the truck when it was avail here in FL, not one issue and I tow a 20 ft travel trailer like its not even there, have to use a bluetooth electric brake module to make the brakes work on the trailer. Ive added silver letters on the tailgate to make it stand out better which I found on Etsy. Transmission had a recall I took it in and they adjusted the trans and shifts great. I would def recommend this vehicle to someone who is a DIY and needs a truck some times. I go thru car wash and the bed stays dry 98%.
I bought a new 2023 SC and have had no quality or reliability issues.
@@stuffhappens5681what about nowadays. Any problems?
Who is going to be the first to swap this awd system into a elantra N or Kona ?
Ok, all you s.c. owners from 2 years ago having any engine or transmission problems 'now' ?
Wife drove one...I e done a little research.....they have PCV issues ana few engine failures already. My son has the maverick, been problem free so far.
TURBO model specific or all ?
Yea every other new car has problems. Just look up recalls. Ford comes to mind
For the record, my first car was a 92 Ford Taurus. It had one issue that needed fixed when it was purchased from a family friend…….it needed a new PCV valve…..interesting!
Secondly, I currently have a 2023 Santa Cruz Night edition with the 2.5L turbo. She is a fast little thing, who is so fun to drive! I absolutely love her! I bought her brand spanking new and she has 10,000 miles now. She is my absolute favorite car out of all the ones I’ve ever owned.
For reference, since 2020, I’ve bought a 2019 Jeep Renegade, traded her for a 2021 Nissan Kicks, which we traded for my husband’s 2020 Subaru WRX. Then we bought the Santa Cruz, which is mine.
We bought my mom a 2009 Audi A3 turbo diesel. She only had 30,000 miles. Within 5,000 miles, we went to change the oil and saw the dreaded mayonnaise. So, we traded her for a 2014 Ford Mustang V6.
We also bought a 2016 Nissan Frontier SV, but we had a really good friend wreck his work truck, so we sold the frontier to him. I still miss that truck! She was amazing!
So, where we all settled was, Hubby has his 2020 WRX Premium, which he has tuned to stage 2+, with more aftermarket parts than I can list. She’s beautiful. Mine is the 2.5L turbo Santa Cruz Night. Mom has the 2014 V6 Mustang. Then there’s also the 1996 B-Series Mazda pickup.
Trades my maverick for a Santa Cruz because in less than 500 miles my maverick had antifreeze leaking, transmission failure and was in the shop 3 times. Best move I made ditching ford
I can tell you, the 27 highway mpg is not going to happen. I have a '23 Sante Cruz SEL Premium, the 2.5 turbo will get 24mpg at 85mph and 25mpg at 75mph. I drove from Tampa to Atlanta, a 500 mile trip one way, on I-75 north i drove 85mph, south i drove 75mph.
So those mpg are real life numbers, only had a few suitcases in the back as far as weight. Hope this helps anyone that owns, or is thinking of buying.
Over all, the '23 Sante Cruz SEL Premium model has a very smooth ride, quiet, strong, and with the turbo, yeah...its quick
@wetspotswimwear1199
The reason you're not getting 27 mpg on the highway is because you're driving at 85 mph.
If you slow down to 55-60 mph you'll get better fuel economy.
@angelocardoc did you not read the different speeds I was driving ? I know how it works, hell, I can get 45 mpg out of it if I drive 40mph, but you can not drive 40mph on the highway, and driving 55mph on a highway that is posted 70mph, with an average speed of traffic going 75mph, will cause an accident resulting in death or if you are lucky, only serious injuries.
The average person drives 300,000 miles in their life time, I have 4+ million miles driven in my life time so far, I know a thing or two about driving speeds v. mpg AND saftey while doing it. I have driven semi's for 40 years, 12 of those years I also instructed courses in driver saftey and getting the most out of a trucks mpg's....anything else ?

You seem like a very angry and confrontational person.
A good therapist might be able to help you.
@angelocardoc what exactly do you concider angry or confrontational ?
If informing you of my experience and knowledge is your idea of angry or confrontational, I suggest you run off to your safe space and wait til you can face life in an adult manner
@@angelocardocI think you’re the one that might need to seek psychiatric help. I bet you’re one of those that stays in the left lane on the interstate also, driving below the posted speed! Have a great day.
Thanks!
