I find the motivation behind remakes/adaptation being the culprit, with morden day films, more importantly if the work being adapted has been successful audiences, on the other hand I love that you mentioned Howl's Moving Castle because it shows that even though its an adaptation if the creators are care more about making art very little rooms is left for botching. but that's just my 2cents on the issue maybe there's a different angle to look at this whole situation
