Oh my god, thank you Mary! I just got this chicken recipe from a friend of mine from UK and it features all purpose seasoning. I was like "the what now?" I'm from Vietnam and we don't have that, the name is so general that I can't even DIY it. Shipping it from overseas costs an arm and a leg, at least to a college student like me. I was going to google it when I saw your video in my subscription feed :) I have tried quite a few of your tutorials and they all turned out excellent! My ferments are all still (shockingly) alive and thriving. And your prepper series helped me out a lot after the covid breakdown making me see the need to be more prepared (As I see it, there is much less of a prepping mentality in Asia than in the US) You are such an amazing teacher and I can't wait to see more video from you. I have started to make my own seasoning mix.....with NO SALT! I never thought about the kelp or nutritional yeast. I do use Turmeric & Cumin in my mix! Love it in or on everything; then add the salt or not...depending on if needed! I agree with the Celtic sea salt! Great Recipe....Thanks for ALL your WONDERFUL recipes! Have a BLESSED Day!

Hi Mary! I'm excited to try this recipe instead of purchasing a pre-made mix. I like the idea of tailoring it to my family's taste and don't know why I hadn't thought of it myself. I appreciate your explanation of why you vary from the original recipe and that you cited the person that you were inspired by. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Denise, I think you will be so pleased with this… And definitely tailor it to your family’s taste. All the various herbs and/or spices that you add will definitely “disguise“ any flavoring from nutritional yeast and/or Kelp powder that may be a new and/or a different flavor to your family… Yet you’ll be adding lots of nutrition. Love, Mary
Nutritional yeast is something that many vegetarians and especially vegans use in the place of things like parmesan cheese. It's high in B vitamins which many lack in their diet. It has a cheesy/nutty flavor and is really yummy. It gives an almost umami flavor to anything it's added to. Some people might be put off by the looks of it and say it looks like fish food. Please get over that. 😂 If you want to make a non dairy parmesan shake alternative I use nutritional yeast, garlic powder, sea salt or Himalayan salt, dried parsley flakes, mixed with two kinds of nuts (I use raw almonds and cashews separately because they don't cook at the same time, almonds take longer) that I roast and then process in a food processor until it's fine as sand (but definitely not turning into butter). Add everything together place in a glass jar in the fridge. I use that on my version of garlic bread and as a topping for my spaghetti which I make using cooked lentils, eggplant and mushrooms in place of meat along with all the other yummy things you normally would put in the sauce like garlic and onions etc. In addition I've used nutritional yeast in many other recipes.
Thanks so much for sharing this mix recipe, Mary. We have all the ingredients sitting in our pantry except the kelp powder but will be ordering some today. God bless, Rob
These are some very good tips and recipe. I would whiz the ingredients on a food processor, though, as some of the dried herbs have a tendency to come to the top of the jar. Thank you for the videos. You're very sweet.
I recently watched your video about herbs you grow, which inspired me to buy more seeds for this year. This video is getting me thinking: can we use home grown less common herbs that we dried ourselves to up the nutritional value? For example, lovage would add a slight celery taste while also adding its anti inflammatory properties as well as B complex vitamins.
Hi Chris, I am so glad to hear this...and yes, you can certainly use your own home grown herbs in any combination that you want. This is a very flexible mix. Love, Mary

Thank you so much for this! My husband uses No Salt as a salt substitute and it's consistency and flavor are very similar. Have you ever heard of anyone using this in the recipe, and if so, what were the results? Also, I love seasoning blends too. I have one I specifically use for salmon as my husband hates salmon unless it's marinated overnight with this seasoning mix. Then, and only then, it disappears quickly; and when our kids visit, it is a much requested dish.
I would just make it without the salt? I grow tons of herbs and just blend them. Sumac is an awesome salt replacement by itself and it takes very little. This blend sounds wonderful and healthy even without the salt. Mary makes the best blends!
I have a question about sea salt. I have found that in products I but that have sea salt in them that they go rancid very fast. Will the sea salt in the spice mix do the same and go rancid and ruin the entire batch?
Hi Marlene, That is fascinating to me. Are you sure it's rancid? I have never heard of salt going rancid. How do you identify the rancidity? Love, Mary

I would love to use Nutritional Yeast. It contains MSG and can set off issues for many people. My father has a severe reaction to MSG, even natural MSG.
"Non-Fortified Nutritional Yeast is a naturally grown and is a 100% yeast product with no fortification and no synthetic additives, you can rest assured that it doesn’t contain any MSG." ; sarifoods.co/blogs/news/176125319-the-truth-about-nutritional-yeast
@@azurecerulean There's a reason nutritional yeast is so often compared to cheese: It contains naturally occurring MSG. “Monosodium glutamate is just the sodium version of glutamic acid,” said Christine Clark, a cheese writer and educator based in Burlington, Vt. “Glutamic acid is umami.
@@cynthiaschupp9999 "Glutamic Acid - It Is Not MSG or Monosodium Glutamate" .. "Glutamic acid is a 'non-essential' classified amino acid that is very common in plants and animals. Besides being a building block of protein, glutamic acid is vital in the transmission of nerve impulses, and is even manufactured in the brain." ; www.edenfoods.com/articles/view.php?articles_id=207
@@azurecerulean Let others look it up. I have multiple times. I just want to warn people, not everyone has issues. I know quite a few who do. They all have issues with nutritional yeast.
Thanks for sharing. I heard that nutritional yeast may help with joint pain. A home baker in Alaska had to give up many of her hobbies due to hand pain. Her final one was baking with her granddaughter. Well one day she was baking with her and had a flare up which made her drop the glass pan she got from oven. She had her granddaughter sit on the counter. She believed she'd have to give up that as well so she baked for a day. Well she made cheesy buns using nutritional yeast instead of cheese. After consuming them she woke up with no joint pain. She tried to think of what she had done differently and it came to her while she was eating a cheesy bun. She was able to knit, fish, and bake again. Daniel has been running off lately. Lee wants me to go back to work and him stay home with him. Thing is he pays child support to his ex and he doesn't help Daniel with his school work when he is home.
Don't use Bragg's Fortified Nutritional Yeast. It is fortified with synthetic vitamins. And it takes a lot to get those vitamins. A serving is 2 tablespoons. That would mean more seasoning than is practical.
Don't worry at all! You can definitely leave it out. I reduced it, because even for those of us who love garlic, it's just a bit too much in this blend. So leaving it out will be fine too. Love, Mary
@@MarysNest thank you! also, im not a native speaker, so sorry for this question, but what was the herb that tasted like a gentler oregano? i have never heard of it before
@G-man XD im not keen on garlic breath either, my boyfriend and friends call me a vampire because i dont like garlic and im allergic to sunlight so im also really pale, but no i really dont like garlic, my bf on the other hand really really loves garlic. i do like cinnamon though

That’s genius
Oh Angela! You are so sweet! Love, Mary
That would mean more seasoning than is practical.
i do hope the garlic powder isnt necessary for it to taste well, i really hate the taste of garlic
