Excellence content. Thank you for sharing. I am just learning about Pu-erh and your video help a great deal! I look forward to watching more of your videos.
For the last couple of days, I have been drinking a 2014 Shou Pu-erh (Nuggets) and I realize it makes me feel quite calm and lethargic for many hours afterwards. When I drink some Black Tea later in the day, this lethargy seems to dissipate and I feel more alert?! Does the Pu-erh tea I’m drinking have a very low caffeine content or maybe a large portion of L-theanine that would make me so tired?! Any suggestions are appreciated!
Hi Robert. To be honest, it's impossible to tell, and people react differently to the same teas, and each tea is unique in its composition of caffeine, theanine, and other elements. But generally speaking, it's very likely that aged Shou Puer is lower on caffeine than Black Tea (Hong Cha), which could've been made from young leaves and buds.
That's true, caffeine is quite bitter, and bitterness can be a good indicator of caffeine. However, if a good tea is brewed correctly, caffeine is not released all at once but rather gradually, and caffeinated tea won't be bitter.
Never heard of such an effect of theanine 😁 Without a proper chemical analysis of a particular tea it is impossible to tell how much of theanine it contains. However, usually there is lesser theanine in ripe puerh than in raw puerh.
@@PathofCha just google it eeddit nootropics theanine. Many people relate it. Theanine feel like a mild mild benzo for many people. In thesis increasis alpha waves... the zen waves. Its a awesome benzo withdraw substitute. Take care

The more bitter, the more caffeine in tea, it's very bitter chemical.

sting-tea in the sahara song
Nicely done video!
Thank you, Jim!
I hate theanine. Makes me feel blank in the head. How much theanine is in puer? Fermenting decrease only caffrine?
