    We are talking about one of my favorite curriculums of all time! Five In A Row! I'm sharing how I use Five In A Row with two of my children. I'm also sharing step by step what we did to "row" a full week of one of our favorite books. I hope you enjoy!

    Thank you for sharing how you use FIAR with your family. One of the best things I noticed about the way you do school with your kids is how peaceful it seems. I really appreciate the way you incorporated your entire family and the best part of that was all of the relationship connections you made as you went to the arboretum together! Trying out the pastels and taking the pictures of the trees they drew were great ideas too!! It really doesn't matter which "curriculum" we use, as long as it brings peace, and it allows us to deepen our relationships with our kids. I mean, we need to choose wisely, but there is a ton of freedom-the curriculum is a tool in the toolbox-not the boss! ☺ P.S. If schools can count field trip days as 'official days' of learning, please let yourself count glorious days at the arboretum as an official day. Because it was. And it was super valuable. If you need more encouragement, like most of us, The Smiling Homeschooler podcast is excellent!!!

    Your videos are BY FAR the most helpful, God sent homeschool Mama videos that I have come across. I have switched my children to cle for math, reading, language arts and I was thinking what will I use for science, social studies, and art. I'm moving away from masterbooks which was a great fit for my first year of homeschooling but now that I'm more in the groove of things it seems less likely I'll stay with it. This looks like a really fun curriculum to cover those areas for my younger children!! Keep up the fantastic work!! Thank you so much!!

    This was the best review of five in a row (I watched a few videos!) thank you so much. Do you think this is good for teaching a kindergarten and second grade at the same time?

    Thank you so much for this video!! I had finally decided on using Five in a Row for this coming year, and I was looking for a video that would chat about it more! Your demeanor and your information was all so great! 🤗 I’m a fellow homeschool mama (with a RUclips channel focusing on that, too) and I look forward to following along with you!

    Seriously so informative! Thank you for sharing, I am so excited to be doing these lapbooks with my kiddo. She is going to have a new and fun way to learn with this! I'm not a crafty person, very book work, and I'm always looking to make school time an enjoyable experience for her!!! Thank you

    I haven't found many good videos about FIAR. This was one of the best, and I'm glad to see how you use it. I love the lapbooks but I haven't figured out how to use them more effectively. I like how you formatted them simply!

    I absolutely loved this video ❤️ That intro 😂 your family are so beautiful and it really looks like you are having a blast with five in a row. I have volume 1 of 5 in a row and really wanted to do it with my 6 and 13 year olds and just beef it up for my teen. (I was going to try and include cooking etc for my big girl) But we haven't started it yet cause I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the stuff.
    I also already had kindergarten blossom and root that we barely started last year then math mammoth and hooked on phonics for my little guy. We have made a good start with B & R la, he is doing awesome with hooked on phonics, maths is a bit ropey but he is trying. But our day feels boring and repetitive and seeing this awesome video makes me want to dump what we have started and just do five in a row. Please help 😂 what should I do? X

      You really just need to weigh what is working and what’s not and what is worth keeping. If something really isn’t working, I don’t think it’s worth wasting time on. I really love Five In A Row and I think as long as you add in Language and Math at least, you have what they need. And for you oldest, it would be pretty easy to assign books and other reading to really beef it up. I hope you figure out what’s going to work for your family ❤️

    I'm sold! This looks amazing! I think perfect for my younger two kids. Is the recommended method to do lap booking? I am curious how else one would keep track of the information. We don't have a printer.

      @ourthriftyhomeschool  2 года назад +1

      Yay! You will love it!
      So actually I’m not really sure how else people do it. They don’t mention anything about lapbooking in the actual curriculum, that’s just what a lot of people do. I’m sure you could just do what’s in the book with no extras and be totally fine!

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool

      No you definitely don’t need to use Pinterest at all! I liked to find lap book ideas for each book, but there is plenty in the guide!

  • @juliequates9529

    Do you prepare anything ahead of time for the Lap book? Or the kids just put them together piece by piece throughout the week? Does the book give the explanations behind the experiments? This looks so lovely, like the quality things I'm missing....but I still gotta keep it simple with little kids!

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  Год назад

      I print everything ahead of time, but my kids and I cut and piece things together as we go each day. It doesn't take much prep from me at all. The book does explain experiments and things and even has some printables with each lesson. I will be doing a video this month showing how I put together plans for a week of FIAR and how simple it really can be!

    I'm having a really hard time finding good, free printable lapbook resources other than for basically Madeline and Ping. Where are you finding great resources to grap for some of the other books? I have so many littles i just don't have time to try to reinvent the wheel. I'm ok paying a little for Teachers Pay Teachers, too.

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  5 дней назад

      I always used to either just do a search on Pinterest or just search for free printables or free lapbook for the specific book. If you still can’t find that, you can always find lapbooks on topics related to the book, like for Madeline, type in Paris lapbook…or for Ping, you could look for a China lapbook or ducks lapbook.
      I hope that helps!

      There are usually 2 or 3 reproducible pages at the end of each lesson that can be used in a lap book or notebook!

    What are the big differences between the new and old edition of Volume 1? I can find the old edition for $7 on eBay, but I’m worried I’ll be missing out on something by not purchasing the new edition! 😂

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  6 месяцев назад

      I don't think there is a huge difference. The newer one might have a few added activities and it has some worksheets at the end of each lesson that you can photocopy, but I definitely think the original book is amazing and I'd probably just grab that for a fraction of the price.

    ❤❤❤❤❤Not only have you inspired and motivated me to stick it out with CLE, but now I’m adding in FIAR and dropping other curriculum we are doing to just put a check in the box. I feel like this could make the other subjects aside from the CLE LA, Math, and Reading much more enjoyable and engaging for us. I really want to find a way to continue this as they get older and past the quote unquote age recommendations for the levels. Thank you so much for an awesome video on how you use it. ❤❤❤❤❤

    Exploring switching for the lit based for my 7 year old. Do you add in a math curriculum or find it was enough?

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  Год назад +1

      Yes, I add Math and Reading from Christian light to this. I think you probably wouldn’t have to bc there is a lot in FIAR if you do most of it, but I have had so much success with CLE Reading and Math that I wanted to do it with my son this year.

    I watched your video last night and I want to try 5 in a row but I was wondering if I could use it with my kindergarten and 4th grader at the same time and just move from each level together instead of bumping my 4th grader up to a new volume. I mainly want to keep them learning together as long as I can. Idk if I’m making any since lol

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  2 года назад

      So, I’m not an expert on FIAR….but I would think that as long as you have a math and language curriculum, you could keep them together and could beef hers up if you think she needs more!
