Innovative Percussion Fundamental Series F10 Mallets; you can buy on Amazon. But any other similar mallets would work great. Soft or hard mallets, depending on the sound you want.

does playing the strings damage them and cause a deoxidization process? are there ways to play them without damaging the strings?

To my knowledge, no....you may be interested in wearing gloves (if your performance allows). The oils on our fingers can stick on to metals and cause tarnish. doesn't damage.
