Thanks for that easy solution. In the past I have ditched chairs for that reason. You gave me a money saving fix. Cheers
Awesome! Used a leftover piece of flashing from our new roof, now I'm back on top of my desk again! Whole thing took less than 5 minutes.
Worked like a charm!
Thanks for the tip. I put a new top on my desk that's a lot thicker and I needed the extra lift.
Exactly what I needed. Didn't expect to find a solution for something so specific. Thank you!
Thank you!!! Almost a life saver. My wife's chair was actual scraping the floor. I used HVAC aluminum foil tape instead of the pop can. Works great! Now the question is why they build these chairs to fail.
Jim Rongstad they want to sell more of them. 😉 Thanks for watching.
Tell me please because I do not have the tools or the knowledge to cut aluminum can. How can I use that HVAC aluminum foil tape? how many layers of the HVAC aluminum foil tape did you use? Is it east to cut that HVAC aluminum foil tape?
Did you put the HVAC aluminum foil tape around the tube instead of inside the opening of the base?
@@hatemkamal1682 Yes, I put it around the tube. The HVAC aluminum foil tape cuts with a regular scissors. As to how much to use, trial and error. I did a couple of wraps around at first, put the chair back together. It was still too low so I did some more. It was fine then. But a couple of weeks later, it had sunk some, so I took it apart and applied a bit more tape. So far, so good.
@@hatemkamal1682 a standard pair of scissors can cut an aluminum can. You may have to poke a hole below the top rim to get it started though.
Just did this--worked great! Saved me from ordering a new lift cylinder. Thank you
This was such a fantastic hack. It was too early in the morning to kill a beer. So I was able to use aluminum foil. I folded one sheet over on itself and wrapped it around the bottom like tape. That got me another half inch, which made all the difference. Again, great hack!
Life changing! Thank you for sharing!!
This totally worked! Thanks. I ended up needing to us 3 cans for the thickness to make account for the taper of my gas shock but it fixed the problem! Thanks!
You are a legend dude such a simple fix my posture was suffering for ages wish i found you sooner!
Came across your video as I had the same problem. I didn’t have a can handy, got to the same result by applying a couple wraps of foil HVAC tape to the part of the cylinder that inserts into the base. Regular duct tape may have worked too but would probably turn into a sticky mess if you want to disassemble later. The fix allows me to postpone $80 for a new base and cylinder at least for a while. Thanks 👍
Hey dude! I've been annoyed with my rather expensive office chair for years now and i just tried this trick. I didn't think i would work but i almost got an extra inch out of it! Thanks a lot!
Simple and intelligent idea. Thanks for saving my chair.
without a doubt the easiest and most effective way to solve the problem. Thanks
Very clever solution, thanks for posting this!
Underrated guide. Nice.
Thank you!!! I was looking at buying a new chair, but this is so much better!
Almost bought a new chair. Good thing I came across this. I used duct tape instead. So far it's working. Might add more duct tape or add a pop can. Thanks for a simple easy to follow video
Man, this is so helpful. Thank you so much!
Very clever solution. I admire how it fixes the chair at no cost by reusing part of an aluminum can as the shim.
This is one of the best vids on the internet.
Worked like a charm.
Genius idea - works very well.
This worked great! Thanks a lot!
This was a lot of help! Thank you!
It worked! I had to layer two cans but gained the increased height I needed. I knew there was a hack out there somewhere. Thank you!
Thanks for the tip! My wife's chair is having this issue. Once I test it tip I'll let you know if it worked.
Edit: Just did this today. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the awesome tip-
worked a treat thanks!
Great idea! Thanks.
Great fix! Bought glider to replace the wheels. The gliders where few millimeters off which makes the protruding cylinder to stand against the floor. The extra tin solves it.
I did this and also added some spacers to the base where the screws go into the seat and was able to increase the height by a good amount. Such a game changer. Thank you!
Good ideaaaaaa!
Absolute livesaver, thank you!
You made my day! Thanks!!!
Very clever ~ Thanks!
Great video worked like a charm for me thanks for this life changing tip cheers to you
GENIUS!!! We used your technique and raised our stem a min of 1.5” - THANK YOU!
how? he used the finger technique and that looks maybe half an inch. I need mind to be higher too lool
Thanks for sharing this. We really appreciate it! Best wishes.
Thanks for this video!!!
Nice tip. Thank you
My chair had about 2 inches. I raised it about an inch with this tip. Thanks!
This worked great! And all for the price of a seltzer!
I snagged a chair for free from someone who said the chair didn't roll very well. The cylinder was all the way touching the ground, so that was the only issue. It was a pain to get the legs off the cylinder because it had slid down so far, but finally got it! Good thing I have a rubber mallet.
Duude! Genius. I had no idea these chairs legs included a taper fit to the center post. Game changer. Our $400 worth chair lives again! Thanks for the help.
Wow, thank you for this.. totally fixed my issue
Tempted to also use a beer can but found some galvanized sheet metal in the garage cut it 7 x 12 inches and was able to add 4" on my "ergonomic" office chair. Hardest part was getting the steel base off.
Awesome! Thank you
absolute king, thanks so much
Worked like a charm. Needed some WD40 to get the base off, but I'm so happy to have saved my Racecar chair. Thank you!
I see you were bit my the Union & Scale ring as well. Great tip and straightforward video. Hope you never need to replace the gas lift...
what a spescific solution, helpfulll. Thankyou
Thanks! I know now a new way to use proud!
Thank you!
Thank you so much. I pulled my whole base off + canister and hit the whole shaft off with a hammer projected onto my foot. LOL It hurt a lil, but worth it since my shoulder won't be in pain! Thank you kind sir!
Thankyouuu! Great idea, it works!
Thankyou for this idea.
Really Great Video! Easy and I have the exact same issue. Now I know what to do!
Mind=blown
Thank you!
Nice idea. Thanks for the tip mate!
That, my friend, was very helpful, thankQ
Thank u! Works for me 👍🏾nice video
Thanks a lot! One of my PC chairs has that problem.
thank you for this, exactly what I was looking for! Problem solved in minutes...
Thank u so much, worked perfectly🤘🏻
Really very nice suggestion.
Thanks man, you rule!
Thanks very much
Good work 👍👌
I had bit different problem but this video helped a lot still thanks
great vid thank you!
Thank you friend
you saved me money, and deserve the like bro. ty
Bro, thank you, thank you, thank you. Awesome life hack!
I just wanted to remove the Gas lift but this video pointed me to an obscure problem. My chair was lower than it should have been due to the shaft protruding down further. Thanks
Thank you so much, problem solved!
Nice! Thanx my dude. My chair doesn't stay up any more, but I don't need the adjustment to work, so I'll do this and won't have to buy a new cylinder! 😎
Very smart nice video appreciate it
Totally life saver
wow so easy thank you :)
You are an actual legend ty so much :)
Thank you it works
didnt work for me but it gave me the idea to put a sock inbetween them and it work so thanks for the idea
THANKYOU SO MUCH...
very very clever.
Well done
Thanks
Thanks for this video. I ended up wrapping my entire cylinder base in multiple layers of aluminum foil. Same difference.
Omg thank you so much, i was desperate searching for this ❤️
Worked well for me. I just used a piece of cardboard. Had to bang the wheel base itself instead of the tube though to get it off.
That is too easy. ... thanks. JR
Worked great. For my chair I had to use double layer of aluminum (can of soda pop)
Thank you so much :-)
What did you use to cut the aluminum can?
@@hatemkamal1682 Metal/aluminum shears (scissors)
you make it look so easy. Can't get the base off the chair (the chair broke and want to salvage a few parts since they're mostly commodity).
Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you sir. You've saved my carpet
I am going to try this on my chair that does not have a cylinder lift or have a screw mechanism to lift it up. hopefully it works on a metal base as well!
Saved my life g
Thanks a million for the easy fix!
This kind of thing is why I love the internet! Super helpful! Thanks so much, I used aluminum tape instead of the can.
So i thought the can was used so that the top of the cylinder rested on the protruding edge of the can. But I imagine when the tape you used it was just to give that tapered edge something to grip to so it didn't slide down too far below the leg-stand thing?
@@nickwillis1454 yeap! That and it increases the radius of the tapered bottom of the leg stand, that way the can’t slide lower. In my case the leg stand was very low, almost 2 inches or lower
genius!!!
Just bought a brand new chair. It’s a 300 dollar ergonomic chair. Sat in it after building and realized it was too low. Flipped it over and the bottom is protruding like the one you pointed out. Do you think since it’s new it’s not messed up like yours was? Can I still do this trick? Thanks for any advice.
Get this,....My pedestal is scraping on the carpet....Gonna try this tonight!!!! Thanks!
I need like an extra 2 inches on my chair. I hope this'll work, thanks for sharing! If it don't work, as a temporary solution, my other idea was to just get a bunch of USPS or UPS carboards and stack them under my carpet that my Chair sits on, or to simply buy some cheap but thick-ish carpets that'll be enough to raise my chair by around 2 inches from being under my main carpet where the chair sits lol!
Original idea was to get a 2 inch piece of wood but I think that'll feel weird when stepping on unless I sanded all 4 edges down at a nice smooth angle.
I shouldn't have gotten rid of my 400 dollar chair, that one actually went up high enough all on it's own smh.
Thank you so much for creating your video! Your video seems to be the only one out there to deal with this particular issue. My office chair mid-post was four to five finger width down and it destroyed my chair mat. It took a LOT of wacking to get the post from the wheelbase and I used two layers of cans just to make sure. I have to especially thank you since the height of my chair was causing neck & shoulder problems since I was sitting too low. So I'm hoping your hack will help me from further pain.
I'm wondering if older chairs that didn't have plastic wheelbases had this issue?
Heather Howell [Staff] glad it was helpful for you. Thanks for watching.
