Good point. I began videotaping for Real English in 1992, so some videos like this one are old (1995), while others were filmed just a month ago. I'm pretty sure that opinions, including stereotypes, change rather quickly. I'm sure we'd get different answers if I refilmed this series today.

Hi Dean, That sounds right to me. The Confederacy has conserved a European type of politesse, so to speak, and nowadays, Americans are not as confident as they were in their brash days of the late 90s when I edited and filmed this clip....

Yes it is. I have to correct this mistake.

finally. a video that actually shows us for what WE ARE. im the generous/friendly/hospitably kind of American.I just want to let the world know.."we ARE here for YOU". WE WILL HELP THOSE IN NEED. You dont have to agree with everything we do(sometimes even I dont).Just be grateful, that there is a whole country that would take a bullet or everyone in the world.think about it.THE WORLD! If we are "SO BAD", then why is Iraq still intact?? THE REASON? WE ARE NOT TRYING TO DESTROY THEM!! free them..

I made this video when Clinton was president. If it were made during the agonizing Bush years, there would be fewer good stereotypes. Now that Obama is soon going to be president, it will be fun to do this video again in about a year. It's on our filming list!

@TheTipsyGipsy I agree with everything you say, but I disagree with your opinion that this was an 'attack' on us. To me, it's just a perspective, and not a bad one at that. I cringe to see what the Britts would have to say about us today, though your first sentence should be considered by all people judging Americans.

Have you ever talked to an American from the high north? New York City, Connecticut, New Hampshire, The Hamptons...? You're basing your opinion on a stereotype. Educated people are polite, as we know the educational system up here bests down there.

Consistant response: Loud/Brash? Yes, if you're from the North--Try talking with an American from the Deep South--refined, polite and not brash. Otherwise yep, pretty confident people who speak their mind..
