Great advice here! However, many people have told me how much they hated Holden Caufield and how whiny and annoying they found him. I can't think of a better masterclass in voice and fully formed characterization than Catcher in the Rye. I think the key thing is really to create a character that rouses a strong opinion in a reader. It shows that they care.
Hello, I have a question for both of you. any one of you have time to coach a person like me? I do like to read and write a short story. when ever I write a short story, I do not like my writing.
Tahlia here. Sorry this has taken so long for me to reply. I haven't been getting notifications about the comments. I or one of our other editors can help you with that. A manuscript appraisal will give you the help you need.
Love how you match! ❤
My novel exists complete and perfect in some platonic dimension and it's my agonizing job to get it onto paper.
LOL. Well said.

Good point. A book has to have other redeeming features and be really well written to overcome a dislikable protagonist.
Thank you!
