Post Hurricane Shelling Sanibel Island. Let’s find out what Zeta pushed up on the beach!

- Post hurricane shelling usually provides tons of shells and great shelling. I went shelling after Hurricane Sally and I wanted to see what Hurricane Zeta would provide. Hurricane Zeta didn't come all that close to Southwest Florida, but it churned up the gulf nonetheless and the shelling was pretty good!
Last time we went shelling over at Fort Myers after a storm blew through and this time I wanted to see what Sanibel would provide. The gulf waters were too rough to look for shells in, however tons of shells were pushed up on the beach and there were tons of goodies to pick through.
This walk has changed so much due to all the storms that have come through. The part of the woods I used to walk through has become a real mess and is now almost impassable. I'm wondering if future storms will fix the mess or make it worse. I guess time will tell.
I hope you know that your videos are the only reason I can fall asleep it’s just so calming I hope we cross paths one day so I can give you some sea glass
What a delightful compliment! I'm so glad I can help you relax and fall asleep thinking of the sea. I hope we cross paths one day too!
I picked B!! I’ve watched enough of your videos to know that you pick some tiny shells too. You really did a beautiful haul in today’s beach walk. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you!!😊🐬
You are so very welcome! Thank you once again for watching another one of my vids!
This looks like so much fun!
You find the coolest stuff!
I have had a lot of practice :) I love it! Can't wait until you can come visit!
Missed a pear welk, but it does get overwhelming when there's so many shells!! Beautiful job 😍
I was thinking about a tulip but when I rewatched I saw there were a lot of shells that could have been chosen as the one I missed. Thanks so much for playing along!
Of course, your channel makes being a subscriber fun!
You found some beautiful shells 😊
I sure did! Thank you so much for watching!
@@SWFBeachLife your welcome, very jealous of those shells 😊 it’s so relaxing and peaceful shell hunting
Thank you for the beautiful clips of the waves on the beach ! Doing their job..to bring new shells up to the beach !
I’ve been hoping for some NW winds or a good thunderstorm storm to roll through!
Love that big Sharks Eye!
Me too!!!
Thank u again for a wonderful walk I would to be present and the beautiful treasures you found..oh the stress breaker🎶
That is what I LOVE about the beach. I'm no where else when I'm there. I'm present and grateful for everything I get to enjoy. Thank you so much for watching!
Just came home from work and this video was the perfect thing to help me relax 😻
I'm so glad! ☺
I am so impressed of the shells you find. Awsome just Awsome.!! I can not even begin
to imagine what it would feel like to see and go through piles of shells. I can tell you that I would be picking up each and every one. I would be really slow, being afraid I might miss something. I have never had the opportunity to do anything like that. I would love it more than you know. Thank you for a fantastic video. I loved it❤️
You are so very welcome! I'm very lucky that I live so close to so many awesome beaches. I'm happy that I can take you along with me! Thank you so much for watching!
Beautiful finds. I think these were some of the most colorful I’ve seen since I started watching. Love the walks with you on the beach.
I love sharing all the goodies I find and taking others to the beach with me. I appreciate you leaving a comment and coming on my beach walks with me!
You missed the tulip right next to a lightning whelk. Love the video
Thank you for watching and I sure did miss a few!!
My favorite shell is the Florida finding. Conk. I don't know. If I spell it tright but. I love your vids
Thank you so much! The Florida Fighting Conch is a fantastic little creature and I love their shells too!
at least you find some colourful or textured ones amongst thousands of other oridinary shells, imagine a beach where you struggle finding even oridinary shells amid of thousands pebbles
A. Shells found! And no I did not look. Love Terri Simmers. Love you my Sister in Shells.
B :) You were close - it was a whole bunch! Thanks for watching shell sister!
Have been at Fort Myers for 2 weeks and this week at Sanibel within walking distance of Bowman's Beach. I experienced my first huriccine today. Found some really nice shells and I could identify most from watching you. Thank you for your shelling info ahead of time. Shells are leaving with me on Sat. for their new home on Ohio! Keep up the good work.
I'm sure you'll give the shells a wonderful new home ☺ I hope you had a fabulous time down here and I'm so glad you were more familiar with the shells that you found from watching my videos! Safe travels and hope you come back soon!
Hi Ms Smishko!! My Daughter and I were on Sanibel the week of Hurricane Eta. I was at Bowmans Beach and spoke with a lady that had been in Ft Myers the previous weeks and on Sanibel during the hurricane. Im wondering if it was you that I spoke with. This particular lady was fond of the orange scallops. I found an Sugar as she was walking away any gave it to her. It is a small world, it could have been you. She did mention that she was flying home.
@@gailyahodnett6743 I hope you enjoyed your time here and found a bunch of shells! I didn’t go to Sanibel for Hurricane Eta shelling - I stayed on Fort Myers Beach. I DO love orange scallops but that lady wasn’t me. It could have been though - I love chatting with other shelters ☺️
@@gailyahodnett6743 Yes it was me. I enjoyed our chat along with many other shellers. I had a fabulous time-wish I was there longer!!
119 ?? Oh no did you leave that pink scallop with the beach stuff on it ? I wish I was right there shelling with you. You are so kind, you leave many for other shelters 😊
I wish I could bring people with me! I'd like to try to go live when shelling one of these days. Now that would be fun!
You didn’t take that beautiful shell that looked like a rose, I definitely would take that with me ‼️
Isn't it neat how the broken ones can be beautiful too? Thanks so much for taking the time to watch!
And I also saw a dark brown Florida fighting conch at 11:14 a little bit over the middle on the left side 😊
I am completely hooked on the beach walking and looking forward to see the next walk 😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@slvihelenevorrenaasand7835 I saw that one too but I was bummed about the tulip I missed!
I love your channel sm I watch it when i miss FL
I’m glad you found my channel. I can bring you to a different Florida beach every week. Thank you for watching!!
Beautiful shelling beach walk, thank you, you stay safe as well 😊🌈
Thank you! Luckily so far it's just been a little wind and rain. I checked the beach today at high tide and didn't find much. Hopefully I can hit a good low tide and find a bunch of goodies! Thanks so much for coming along with me!
So many shells. And I'll take that rookie/banded tulip shell any day. lol. And those Chestnut Turbin's are so cool. OMG, that Shark eye is fantastic. And that paper fig, wow. Love it. Thank you for sharing. And what shell did you miss/not pick up?
This video was from a while ago - I am so sorry I just don't remember!
Looking for the one you missed, was it the Big Florida fighting conk upper right ▶️
Love all the Beachy goodness 💗🌅🐚🕊️🐠🐬🏖️
Think my fav is the kitten 🐾 paw 🐚
Very nice finds! I really do like those top snails a lot, hoping to find some when I visit again soon! Can't wait to see your finds next week!
In addition to top snails I've been finding a lot of button snails too lately. And then I'll have 3 months where I won't find any! I love the "luck" part of shelling. As you know, sometimes you're just at the right place at the right time :) Thank you for watching!
Omgosh id of kept that shell piece that looked like a rose would of made an amazing necklace ..wish I'd of found it:(
I had the same thought! It was very pretty.
You're the second person to have mentioned that particular shell - I guess next time I find one like that I better keep it! Thank you so much for watching!
I love to make things with shells....I like to get new ideas...great idea to make a necklace....

You missed a tulip... but you sure did make up for it!!!❣️
Well that is a delightful way to look at it! Yes, that tulip is the one I missed but it's not like I didn't come home with some other treasures. Thanks for much for coming along with me!
@@SWFBeachLife you be careful with this new hurricane fast approaching!!! Be safe!!!❤️❣️👍🏻

Thanks so much for the walk and WOW what a haul. I hope I have the same luck when I get down there in a few weeks.
I hope you do too! I always find something, but some days are better than others :) Happy planning!
What an awesome walk. That Lace Murex was beautiful but the shark eye was my favorite of the day. Was it the tulip that you missed or the flat scallop? There were so many in that shot it is hard to pick..lol Thanks for sharing your walk with us. Can't wait to see what treasures Eta brings us.
Yes it was the tulip that I missed! Well, there were probably a few in that shot but the tulip is the one I wished I had checked out. Fingers crossed for lots of waves but not a lot of wind and flooding. I can't wait to see what Eta brings too!
I saw a tulip (that 'rookie' shell haha!) at 11:10. I LOVE your videos. We are missing our usual Thanksgiving Sanibel trip. My oldest daughter is getting married and we chose Gulf Shores, AL so travel wouldn't be so hard on family. Thanks for sharing your 'beachy goodness' each week! I spend every lunch break watching part of your videos.
Aw shucks - I’m glad I can take you to the beach while you’re at lunch! Sorry you’ll miss your Sanibel trip but I’ll get you there as often as I can until you can get here yourself!
Aww, coquinas are my favorite! You found a beauty! 😊
Aren't they cute?! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for identifying the shells you pick up. I know nothing about the varieties, just that certain shapes appeal to me, etc. Now, from you, I know they are olives and tulips, and I think you called some a murex.
Oh, and the Florida fighting conch. I liked the look of those too.
Cool.
And if you ever get to go beach combing in Florida, you might know what a quite a few of those shells are too!
I guessed wrong, oh well. Looking forward to another beach walk.
I am super psyched to share the video this Sunday. I found some AWESOME goodies!
If you know someone who does wire-wrapping, the Seagulls Sunrise Scallop at 2:50 would make an awesome pendant!
Great idea! I loved that little scallop. I thought it was so pretty. Thanks for the jewelry tip!
I love shells 🐚
Just found your channel and subscribed! Going to a beach to find shells has bee on my bucket list. I just retired so now I have the time to do so.
Oh yay!! Great thing to put on that bucket list! I'll take you to the beach every Sunday and you can learn about all the shells we have down here in SWFL so you'll be ready when you do go looking for them yourself! Thank you for subscribing and watching. I hope you learn a lot!
B, you find a lot of beautiful seashells.
Yes I'm pretty lucky to live where I do. Well, I moved here so we would be close to the beach, so I guess mission accomplished. Thanks for coming along once again!
You know me I saw cockles! A great beach adventure
Thanks so much for coming along with me!
Watch the weather reports...stay safe. What a crazy year.
Thanks Pat! I have texts and email alerts coming in but we should be just fine!
I'm going to guess 78 shells. You had some great finds. Scallops have the most beautiful colors.
The scallops were indeed so pretty - especially that pink one with the little purple "birds" on it!
Great trip thank you🤩🤩🤩💜💜
Thank you! 💜💜💜
Sorry! I’m late! Today I got two new pet hermit crabs!!! Don’t worry though, I’m taking great care of them. They have a 5.5 gallon terrarium with a spray of moisture, pellets, the right water, a sponge in the water, a log to hide under, lots of extra shells, and the perfect temperature, and I can’t release them because they are used to being in captivity, and wouldn’t survive in the wild. They are also really nice and not picky at all!!! I love them so much!
We used to have pet hermit crabs! Aren't they fun? It sounds like you have a perfect set up for them! You know they need humidity (spray moisture) and sounds like they will be very happy - they're lucky to have someone like you who cares to be taking care of them!
You found some awesome shells, but yup ya missed the tulip 😬.
Yes I sure did! That is the shell I wish I could go back and check out. Good eye!
#119 tons of shells girl!!!! ☀️
Right you are and lucky am I! Thanks so much for coming along with me!
Love your channel. I would love to shell every weekend. How’s the shelling during the winter? I’d like to take a road trip during the winter break. Where’s the best place to stay? Ft. Myers? Sanibel?
Shelling during the winter is awesome! It's the best "season" for shells. I've never stayed on Sanibel but if you're going for shelling I bet staying on the water over there would be pretty stellar. I'm a big fan of Fort Myers Beach because the south end has shells and the north end has Times Square - a "center" of town with restaurants, bars, shops and live entertainment on the weekends. I personally would want to stay close to there since there is a lot to do at night and there is a trolley that runs up and down the island so you wouldn't necessarily have to walk. I would try VRBO based on what you're looking to do while you're down here!
Pretty shark eye find? Lots of nice finds I guess A or b ?
B would be correct! Thank you so much for watching!
Great video! You should be getting a bunch of shells after this storm! Lido was full of stuff but nothing spectacular. I still love that park and south end though. Worth the drive. Thought of you the other day at Honeymoon. There was an area covered with turbans!☺️
I'm watching this Eta storm now trying to figure out when I can get to the beach. I loved Lido's FREE PARKING! I'll get up to Honeymoon Island one of these days. I want to find some turban operculum - never seen that before! I'll hit you up for all the details when I'm ready. Thanks for coming along with me once again!

Thank you so much!!
Is a welk the same as a conch? The Apple murex ,hope I got that right,is my all time favorite. Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy watching them and appreciate you telling us what the shells are.
The whelks sure to look like the conch shells but whelks tend to prefer cooler water and conchs warmer water. That being said, I find tons of lighting whelks down here. They must like the warmer water! Conchs are also herbivores (they only eat plant materials) and whelks are carnivores (meat eaters).
The apple murex is a find shells to like! Did you see my video where I found a live one? ruclips.net/video/SYybzpy9bUg/видео.html
I think you hit 4K subscribers. Congratulations-C-78?

Question... what. You do with all those beautiful shells..?
Some shells I keep, some I put to the side and keep telling myself I'll sell them on my website and others I put in a shell bed I have for safe keeping :) It's quite a chore managing all these shells!
It is a tulip you missed in that shot
Correct you are! I was bummed!
Where did you store all your shells. Love the videos :)

SWF Beach Life thanks you are so sweet to respond to each comment. Do you know where I could get shells for art projects at a reasonable price? I’d like to make some things for Christmas.
@@bconsilio3764 You know that’s a good question. I’d like to give you a recommendation but I’d want to know for sure the shells were found empty and not harvested like they are in some parts of the world. I have some on my website for sale that really are meant for projects since some aren’t perfect. If that doesn’t work for you I would suggest looking online for ethically sourced shells. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
Thanks and good advice!

💜💜💜
Is it a true tulip that you missed in the shot at 11:19 ish?
YES! That is the one that bummed me out! Oh well. I got to keep a lot of other good ones though so I can't complain!
So what is the secret? My wife and I went to Sanibel and did NOT find anything special, no unusual shells, any special time you have to go?
Well that's a bummer, but it happens to the best of us. I usually just go first thing in the morning. Lately I've started paying more attention to the tides, so it's possible you just visited at a "bad" time. Also, I tend to walk anywhere between 5-6 miles, so I always increase my chances by covering a lot of beach. I hope you have better luck next time!
Hi Brian, having been to Sanibel many times I can agree with you that the shelling can be hit-or-miss, however, if you try in the water, check the tide charts, go during a full moon, and shell after a storm, you'll definitely increase your odds. 🌴😎
Have you checked your shells out under a uv light?
Not yet but I want to buy one of those UV flashlights and check it out!
