    Audi does not use the real Quattro system in the A3 model because the A3 has a transversal mounted engine. The consequence is that the A3 cannot have a true Quattro drive, as it does with other Audi models that have a longitudinally mounted engine. The Audi A3 has a heldex like golf. The BMW 1 Series F20 has a longitudinally mounted engine as is the case with almost all BMW models, which means it has a true XDrive. This is the main reason why BMW passed the last test and Audi did not. It doesn't matter how much a system allows the wheels to spin, but how capable it is to lock a differential to shift the torque to a wheel that has the grip. In summary, the BMW 1 Series is a mechanically superior car. Audi fan boy.

      xDrive is clutch-pack based awd system, so is Quattro with haldex. Layout is opposite. And longitudinally mounted engine in BMW has nothing to do with final result of the test.

      @@martin.kirilov No, standard open differential. Sport differential comes from 2008 but it is still an open diff.

    This channel is brilliant. Really doing the country, well the world i suppose, a great service by giving us these great real life tests to help us make decisions.
    I know there's more to offroading / loose surfaces than this, but it's a great place to start.

    I read comments from those who say that the A3, which is fitted with the engine installed transversely, does not use the "quattro" system like other Audi models with a longitudinal engine: however, it is also true that Audi sells its A3 with the "quattro" logo applied. does not give it much publicity,
    if indeed with a transverse engine it does not have the same characteristics as its famous more performing all-wheel drive system (at least on the rollers). However, I saw another video comparison between BMW and AUDI on ice, and uphill the first seems to start a little better than Audi. The BMW XDrive system in real conditions,
    it could be much better than you might expect given its lesser reputation. I have always frowned upon the "quattro" system as the best of the various systems together with SUBARU: now, however, after this video, I have an even better opinion of the BMW XDrive system.

    I think in the last test the bmw should have 2 rear wheels and one front slipping,as the bmw is rear biased as opposed to the A3 wich is front biased.

    I came to the conclusion rollers can't replace real world experience on winter roads or off road. Mostly because the car stands still. It's just good to show how these systems work the moment the vehicle leaves static state, rolling on two or three ice blocks. A moving car is a complicated dynamic object with all kind of forces that apply. And it gets even more crazy if you add what's underneath the rubber. The rollers are an attempt to drop as much variables from the equation as possible.

      Original Quattro includes three open differentials ond two lockers, ended in 1987. If you mean later versions with torsen diffs - nowadays only some versions of A4 (and up) have it.

      Nie zmienia to faktu że zasada działania napędu haldex i x-drive jest bardzo podobne, dodatkowo torsen nie jest montowany w każdym Audi, dzisiaj praktycznie każdy napęd 4x4 w osobówkach opiera się na sprzęgle wielotarczowym u jest to rozwiązanie które ma pewną przewagę nad torsenem ale ma też wady jak wszystko.

    The audi esc seems to act sooner bmw is set up for later action for a more sportier drive. The x drive is also more capable with sportier feel but I suppose it’s not that reliable as a torsen, or is it?!

      But there is no torsen in this Audi 🙂 This one has haldex, so both cars are using clutch-packs and electronics for awd systems.

      So is it that there’s not enough torque for the rear axle or the traction control is not effective?

      @@rotorblade9508 I think there is not enough torque. This is standard A3, so it probably has less aggresive software for haldex than S3 or Golf R.

      @@4x4.tests.on.rollers I think that is a traction control problem. Maybe, not enough torque to the rear axle but clearly not enought torque transfer by the traction control. And it's a current "problem" on the rear axle. Maybe, it' s also the manufacturer will to have more stability on the road.

      @@Softroader Traction control cannot do a thing if not enough torque is applied to rear differential by haldex. Haldex comes first, then traction control. The problem may be in combination of both.

      @@Mo13488 Haldex może być napędem stałym, wszystko zależy od konfiguracji. Obecnie nie ma to żadnego znaczenia, sprzęgłowe układy awd w niczym nie ustępują, a nawet wyprzedzają rozwiązania mechaniczne.

    А что если брать машины более 5 летнего возраста? Сильно ли там взлетает цена ? Просто какая-то неприязнь у меня к новым авто. А вот 2010-2016 года машины как-то интереснее были. Сколько может стоить например audi A4 allroad 2013-2016 года? Или BMW X1 первого поколения?

    Audi powinno mieć wolne koło z przodu a nie z tyłu do tego porównania. Stały napęd idzie z przodu. BMW zaś tył i było ok.

      Faktycznie. Gapa ze mnie. Xdrive na prawdę daje radę. Sam napęd z racji wzdłużnego umieszczenia silnika też wydaje się kompaktowy oczywiście w porównaniu do torsena a haldex... W codziennych warunkach jest raczej wystarczający

      Wiem że haldex 1 jest delikatnie mówiąc niedopracowany. 2 GEN znacznie lepszy o 3 w sumie nie wiele wiem ale kiedyś usłyszałem że 4 gen jest nawet od 5 lepsza. Xdrive z kolei jest bardziej sportowy jak nissan gtr

      @@kierowca1990 Wada Haldexa I i II to reaktywne działanie, czyli w reakcji na uślizg. Od trzeciej generacji jest już działanie proaktywne. VAG nigdy nie stosował haldexa III, więc dopiero IV i V są sprawnymi układami, tu oczywiście wszystko zależy od oprogramowania. xDrive, jak i Atessa z GTR-a napędzają przednią oś sprzęgłem, ale układ z Nissana ma zupełnie inną budowę.

      Бмв рулит если в повороте есть возможность замедлиться и проехать спокойно и безопасно... Ну либо проехать быстро, но с дрифтом. А если нужен быстрый проезд в поворот при плохом сцеплении с дорогой, то тогда лучше ауди. 30-70 бмв и 60-40 ауди тому причина. Бмв выгребать передними на большой скорости не может. Тут как ни крути, хоть xdrive на роликах себя и показал чуть лучше, но если давить тапок, он не сможет помочь.

    БМВ задний привод!Идет напрямую.Потому и сьехал.При Роликах на задние колеса-стоял бы как АУДИ.А на АУДИ передний привод.Момент перекидывается назад!

      That's complicated matter. It is not the point to just slow the wheels down are stop them, that may be extremely dangerous, Quattro Ultra has this kind of system error. In many cases slippage is necessary to get the car out of trouble.

      The Audi seems to be a a part of a second quicker in the most parts and completely fails in the last one. Thats how I would describe it. Which would you prefer in extreme winter/ice conditions? Driving a Bmw or be stuck in an Audi?
