Thanks for the drill bit advice, I was recently faced with a choice when buying a hammer drill bit for masonry, afraid I didn't keep it cool, but it lasted the job at least!

is that ideal blocking for a 200 lb person? seems it would stress the tile & grout quite harshly

I am only now investigating these folding seats for a shower application. The "blocking that you are asking about ....IN THIS VIDEO... is actually very poorly done because this is the most important part of this product and the entire success of the end result. It is very disturbing that whoever has done this video, has "fast-forwarded from 0:07 and at 0:10 ....three seconds later .....which is more like 15 minutes to 30 minutes of work ....TO PUT THE BLOCKING IN PROPERLY .........AND THERE IS NOTHING TO SHOW THIS VERY IMPORTANT STEP ........which is the point you are asking in your question .......hence the question.
To make things even worse, this guy admits that the blocking that he put in was not high enough!!!!! WTF???? That one admission make this whole installation a 100% fail in my eyes.
WHY WOULD ANYONE POST SUCH A COMPLETE FAILURE???
This guy is no "professional". If there are four screws per side .....YOU MAKE SURE THEY ARE USED.
And the worst thing about his "blocking" is that it actually NOT blocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just plywood!!!! HOW THE HELL WAS IT ATTACHED TO THE STUDS????? BLOCKING IS 1-1/2" SOLID WOOD.
THIS INSTALLATION IS 100% COMPLETE GARBAGE. Over time, the tile will be either start micro cracking or the grout will start cracking and separating.

Doesn't this pull on the tile? Seems like it would pull the tile off the wall or break.

Thin sheet of plywood with a few finishing nails??? Good luck to the user

Plywood isn't ideal for blocking. I say this as a professional bathroom remodeler. Blocking should be 2x4s. Don't even get me started on the goboard.

You ever use the 2 x4s at depot 😆

What size diamond bit do you use for a 1/4 screw? Same size as the screw or bigger? And how far into the blocking should the screw go? I'm not sure what length screws to use and the bench didn't come with the correct type of screw. Thank you.

Question i wanna build a knee high wall and place the same foldup seat on that wall, how shud i build that wall so it can take the weight of someone seating on the chair?

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher
      @BathroomRemodelingTeacher  Год назад

A knee wall would be much tougher to support laterally. Definitely need to anchor wall to joists below to prevent movement. I unfortunately do not have a video on that one. Here’s one over concrete ruclips.net/video/_86YlvlKTho/видео.html

@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher BULLSHIT to your answer. THE OPEN END OF THE KNEE WALL PROVIDES NOT SUPPORT FOR ANY KIND OF A SEAT ...SOLID OR FOLDABLE. If the wall was solidly attached to something at BOTH ENDS .....THEN .....IT WOULD BE SOLID AND DOABLE.
YOU .....DON'T SEEM TO KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happens if you only have blocking on the bottom screws and the rest only drywall?

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher

I’d say at least hit 3 out of the 4.
Not sure how comfortable I’d feel for less than that
