Privileged to have had our wedding at this Basilica by this young wise priest. Always a delight to listen to him. Great insight Father. I love how you draw our attention to the only one True King, Jesus Christ.
Please remind Fr Sam "Defender of the Faith" is a Catholic title given to Henry VIII by the Pope himself for his strenuous defense of the Roman Catholic faith against the protestant reformer Martin Luther. I'm not judging history nor do I pretend to defend the papacy or the Roman Church's deeds of the past. Nor am I attacking the Anglican Communion or any of the reformed Churches. The relationship between Clement VII and Henry VIII was excellent. But the winds changed when the king of England had an argument with the Church of Rome and ceased his loyalty to the Catholic faith and enhanced by and with the complicity of other states and interests formed and imposed in his realms a new Christian denomination. But, of course, this is another question, complicated and sad. So, in my view, the King's title should better be "Defender or the Anglican Faith" or something of the sort.
@@robjokanovic Not exactly. Clement was virtually under house arrest, and Katherine of Aragon was the Holy Roman Emperor’s Auntie Kate. They kept telling Henry “oh yes, your case is reasonable,” etc, and then they delayed. And delayed. And DELAYED. This was not something Henry could afford, because he desperately needed an heir, and he could tell that what they really wanted was for him to die with no son and for him to be replaced with their pick when he died. It became obvious, after years had gone by, that it was never going through for political, not religious reasons. So yes, he broke with the Church’s authority. England was not the only country to do so: just the biggest.
This is SO good! I am obsessed with royal history but am also a practicing Catholic, as you stated, this history is fascinating but we forget not who is the true King!

There is no need to, the current Mass is fine. If you want Latin as liturgical language and gregorian chant for the music, then you can contact your local Bishop to make it happen. There is no need to change back the rite itself.
I understand. My Scottish ancestors were the McNaughtons (McNutt). Irish were the Youngs and Gillespies. Even my English ancestors in Suffolk (keepers of the King's parks) chose America over remaining in England.
Charles can't be so holy until he brings back the Church of England to the Catholic faith. He can't be Christ-like until he becomes Catholic. Pray that he becomes Catholic.
Beautifully said. Charles himself would agree. I thought the service was very Catholic in nature. I loved the beginning when the child invited Charles by authority of the King of Kings.
That WAS startlingly disarming. Charles was clearly struck by the poignancy of the moment and the innocence and unflinching directness of the child's announcement
@@margaretmary1139 It was not an ecumenical coronation! It was a Anglican one! Non Christians had tangential roles. Other Christian clergy (including Roman Catholic) had only minor involvement.
I will pray for the Royal Queen and King and may God bless them so they can fulfil their duties for which God has put them there. King Charles is also a direct descendant of Saint Margaret of Wessex who was Queen of Scotland. He is her 25h great grandson through his mother's side of the family. The lineage is traced back through the Queen Mother's family line (Bowes) back to the FitzHughs, Scropes, de Ros, Isabel of Scotland, King William I of Scotland, Henry of Huntingdon, King (Saint) David I of Scotland whose mother was Saint Margaret of Wessex. King Charles, in essence, is descended from Catholic saints.
I am aware of that. My point is that King Charles is descended from many Catholic saints. Saint Margaret of Wessex would be praying for him. Are you aware that King Malcolm, her husband, used to be a pagan? But by God's grace, Saint Margaret, she was also Queen of Scotland at the time, converted him to Catholicism and he also became a Catholic saint. King Charles II converted on his deathbed and his brother King James II, another Catholic convert, was the last Catholic monarch of the UK. "king Charles was divorced plus he was seeing kemilla while married to princess Diana". He was divorced and then Princess Diana died. King Charles and Camilla both repented. Princess Diana wasn't exactly innocent either. That is why we pray for people. God urges us to do so and not point fingers. Saint Theresa of Calcutta gave Diana a Rosary while she was alive. She died a sudden death without a chance to repent. We can't judge people like you are doing. We need to pray for people. I am sure that Princess Diana did her dues in Purgatory and now she is in Heaven. Please worry about your own soul before you cast stones. Christ wouldn't be casting stones alongside with you, He would rebuke you and tell you to pray for King Charles and Queen Camilla. God works in mysterious ways. Many people don’t like Camilla. They criticize her very much, but they are wrong. Actually, she is a very nice person, kind and good-hearted. People don’t like what happened in the past and how Camilla came into the Royal Family, but it is all designed by God, and it had to happen. Everything is designed by God, and it is all for a very good reason. You cannot change the course for what is destined for everyone. Ponder on that while you stand in line for Holy Communion this weekend.;
Whoever Charles is descended from is meaningless beginning from the moment Catholicism was rejected. Not only was the faith rejected, but the Catholic Mass was banned and Catholics were persecuted and killed. Charles is the head of a schismatic/heretical church. It is actually not a church, but an ecclesiastical community as Pope Benedict XVI had stated when living. It has no valid Apostolic Succession. Its priestly orders are null and void as Pope Leo XIII's encyclical Apostolicae curae states. Catholics are excluded from succession.
Having recently finished Jeff Cavins' The Bible Timeline, this was a good refresher! Greetings from Northern Virginia @ Saint Theresa Parish in Ashburn. Praise be the King, Jesus the Christ.

Yes, there hasn't been a King/Queen of England or Scotland since 1701 when the Act of Union was passed. The proper title is Monarch of The United Kingdom (MOTUK).
@@crowbar9566 Actually, England and Scotland have had the same monarch since 1603, a full century before the Act of Union, when King James VI of Scotland and I of England succeeded to the English Crown upon the death of Queen Elizabeth I of England in 1603. Obviously, the Virgin Queen left no heir, and James’ claim stemmed from Henry VIII’s sister’s marriage into the Scottish Royal Family. James wanted an act of uniformity, uniting the two kingdoms politically, but Scotland retained her political independence (and also religious independence) for another century, which turned out to be an extremely turbulent one.
I have to say father, I'm Catholic and have just watched the coronation ceremony. From declarations given to oaths taken, biblical readings and homilies, I must say I have just witnessed a religious ceremony that was more Catholic than Catholic in both it's solemnity and reverence. By comparison, the Novus Ordo is a shockingly poor example of a reference for our Lord and Saviour. The Catholic church needs urgent change and return to the liturgy of the traditional mass with the priest his back to the congregation and not the focus of their attention. The priest should only be the facilitator for the consecration of the true presence at Mass, so the faithful can concentrate on Christ and not the priest.
You seem to think that the Novus Ordo is inherently irreverent, which is incorrect. The Missal of 1970 can be celebrated with just as much reverence as any missal of the past. An example: ruclips.net/video/g9P68RHGl8k/видео.html Another example: ruclips.net/video/U_Ici3OULtU/видео.html&pp=gAQBiAQB8AUB
@@colerobbins124 Thank you for your info. I can disclose, I am 74 and so am a child of the traditional Latin Mass. A commemoration, dedication and sacrifice of solemnity and reverence which successfully held the global church for hundreds of years focused on the great sacrifice Christ paid for our redemption and the miraculous gift He left us with. The second Vatican Council, believed in their own wisdom instead of that of Christ and set in place grounds which were more conducive to change, in order to maintain relevance to a secular world already descending on a path to perdition. If relevance is considered at all, it must be the secular world becoming relevant to the one true church and not the other way around. To occupy the space with word salad, semantics, justifications and excuses, is to deny the observable facts. The result in the Catholic church today is a direct result of the church craving to be relevant in a changing world, diluting the liturgy, changing the focus from Christ to the priest and allowing unconsecrated hands to handle the consecrated host, including 99% of the laity. These are things which do not instill confidence with the laity. Quite the opposite, more like a bumbling management, unsure of what to try next to attract parishioners. The upshot of this is, the homily we received just last Sunday at my local church. An appeal to us to think of ways we could increase attendance, not because they were running short of vocations but running short of parishioners in order to support a priest continuing to attend. So I don't accept any amount of whitewashing which the church has a history of perfecting. It's way beyond time to admit fault for without that, I cannot see where the correction will come from, as evading responsibility is to admit to no concern of any problem in the first place. If the Catholic church is the one true church, then it will remain unchanging and not be subject to every fluky breeze which passes by to make it act as a weather vane. How else do we expect to attract parishioners when the church itself refuses to project a confidence in what it believes and an unchallengable consistency. Jesus said 'I am the way, the truth and the life'. He didn't say 'I am one of the ways and you are free to choose which ever way is more profitable'.

All Catholic Churches had postcards outside when the Queen died for all parishioners to pray for her eternal repose and for King Charles III . UK is a very civilized country.
Defender of the Faith (Latin: Fidei Defensor) is a title belonging to the leader of the Church of England. It was originally conferred upon King Henry VIII of England by Pope Leo X on 11 October 1521 as a reward for the king having written a pamphlet in defense of the sacraments against Martin Luther (Declaration of the Seven Sacraments Against Martin Luther). King James V of Scotland received a similar title from Pope Paul III. And yes, there's no longer serious problem between us & the Anglicans or even Protestant in general sense in the UK. Even as an American [& half English myself] i cannot but to continue to support the British Monarchy by praying for their conversion. 🇬🇧✝️🇺🇸
@@la.x-neverthedodgers But that title was conferred on Henry VIII (not necessarily his offspring)...it was then removed when he was excommunicated. So the Monarch has no right to use the title, it was subsequently adopted by the English Parliament.

Anglicans don't believe in states, whether state of grace or starte of mortal sin. They left the Catholic Church in the 16th century and left all that behind.
I have a Canadian friend who views this with great importance. As an American, I find it to only be a passing interest and hope the guy does well while I spent my time looking for a new 45LC pistol and rifle.
Fr. Morehead, The problem is that this particular coronation was particularly anti-Catholic. The Church of England is also particularly anti-Catholic. Other than that, this could potentially be educational for someone.
It is part of English law that the monarch cannot marry a Catholic. The coronation vows include promises to keep England Protestant. Like Korah in Numbers 16, the man Moses, appointed to rule God's people was rejected just as the pope, ruler appointed by Christ to govern the Church, was rejected and continues to be rejected. I would have liked the ceremony better if Charles had declined the title of head of the Church of England. Much of England's wealth and jewels came from closing down and confiscating the riches and lands from Catholic churches, monestaries, and convents. As political allies, I wish them well. As a family, I hope they can forgive and forget and move on.
@@annemariekoutsky5054 I don't think he has an option to relinquish his title as SUPREME GOVENOR OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND and this is because the CofE is the established Church in England and it would need an act of Parliament to repeal that. What I do find offensive is the oath to uphold the PROTESTANT REFOEMED RELIGION. I think Charles himself finds that offensive. Further to this many Anglicans including adherents of the CofE do not regard themselves as PROTESTANTS so explain that!!!
@@marietta1335 He can be king of his country. But he won't be more than just a figure head until he stops being a false head of a heresy. There are several sainted kings and queens of old.
@@rebn8346 Charles won’t remain anything other than a figurehead no matter WHAT he does, or doesn’t do. The UK is a constitutional monarchy, and there the monarch “reigns” but doesn’t “rule”. The authority to rule is vested in the House of Commons, from which the Prime Minister gets his authority. The members of Parliament are chosen in a democratic election, and the monarchy retains what little power it has depending on the will of the people of the UK. If Charles, or any other British monarch were to attempt to change or alter this constitution, it would likely mean the end of the monarchy. The reason the monarchy is as popular as it is, is BECAUSE the monarch is apolitical, and keeps silent and impartial in all political (and religious) matters. The king isn’t even permitted to vote! This is the 21st century, not the 16th.
The decision on whether to retain a constitutional monarchy is one that only the British, or various other nations of which Charles is Head of State, to decide.
Let me see if I understand all of this. Henry VIII ordered that he be the Head of the Church of England in 1531, the same King who did this because he was having a fit over the Pope not allowing his first marriage to be annulled. Hank goes on to marry five more times and also has a son via a side chick. Two of these wives he has beheaded. Yes, Hank orders the beheading of his wives and is dipping his wick into mistresses. Now, we have Charles III, who seems to have the same problem with nesting, who has his side chick the whole time of his youth and marriage to Diana. Today, Chuck and the Queen Concubine are going to a little coronation, whereby he will be officially the Supreme Head of the Church of England. It's good to know the Windsors all follow the 'Do as I Say and Not as I Do' rule in their governance. I think I'll watch Saturday morning cartoons instead.
Exactly, and I don’t understand why “Pope” Francis is sending an emissary to “bless” the head of a “Church of England” that has been in schism with Holy Mother Church for the last 500 years. It’s basically the Pope legitimizing a bogus church that ordains women, approves of gay marriage and abortion, and stands against Catholic teaching. But hey, in this age of woke Christophobia all Christian denominations need to stand together, and I’m just glad they retained the Christian elements in this coronation.
@@carltonurwin3923 What you write is all true. But that's not Unknown Commenter's point. UC's point is that Charles III is set to follow the steps of tragic Henry VIII who founded his own Church because he did not agree with God's Church (the Catholic Church.) From Elizabeth I (Henry's daughter) to Elizabeth II (Charles' mother), England has been PROTESTANT. It started with Henry VIII unable to divorce his Catholic wife, so he had her beheaded, and married his concubine, Anne Boleyne (Elizabeth I's mother). Now England has Charles III, a widower who married his concubine, and now the "pope" of Henry VIII church.
@@marietta1335 you’re factually wrong. Catherine of Aragon was not beheaded by Henry, she died peacefully many years later. Henry was not a Protestant and didn’t create a Protestant church, that happened later under his Son and Daughter when the Church of England became Protestant. It’s complicated but I think you’d enjoy reading more about it.
I only have one King, His name is Jesus. I have no interest in a protestant king who is descended from those who murdered thousands of English, Scottish and Irish Catholics.
Jesus is King of kings, Lord of lords. All kings, princes have to submit to Him. You people live in a so called democracy, that just happened 200 yrs ago. History is a lot longer than that. Pray that this new king submits to Jesus authority. So far, he doesn't seem so.
Sorry Father, in your desire to praise Charles Windsor, he will be "crowned" by a false prelate and take oaths to uphold Protestantism! All Catholic contents of this ceremony are long passed; the 39 Articles and the Act of Settlement are watertight since the last catholic monarch was Mary I 1553-8
@@Holyface145 Not “heretics” but “separated brothers and sisters”. Honestly, do people even know what century we live in? Many commenters here act as if British monarchs have the kind of power they lost or surrendered centuries ago. The Coronation Oath wasn’t created by Charles. Parts are actually enshrined in Acts of Parliament. Charles cannot just write his own, or do as he pleases. If you want a recent example of what happens when a king becomes willful, and seeks to defy the law, then look at Edward VIII, who was never crowned, but forced to abdicate. If you care to look further back, to a time when kings actually HAD real power, then look at Charles III’s ancestor, Charles I, who was tried and convicted of treason, and was the only British monarch to be executed.
Understanding of course that since King Henry VIII broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in the 1500’s, we must appreciate the fact that King Charles has changed the Coronation ceremony to include multiple faiths for the FIRST time. This is a major step forward.
Thank you, father. I should point out that the crown Charles was crowned with is St Edward's crown, not St Stephen's. St Stephen's crown is the crown of Hungary.
Yes Father, the coronation of King Charles was above all a religious ceremony as it should be and always has been, with the authority of the King of Kings, our Lord Jesus Christ. Let's hope King Charles will be as good a Christian as his mother was.
1 Samuel 8:1-22, request for a King, governance of the King, persistent demand....a warning from of old from God...let us be careful with what we ask for. Amen.
It was a beautiful ceremony and very Catholic but I have a problem with one thing. King Charles III had to swear an oath that he would defend the Protestant faith. I know this has the historical background of the reformation but I find it contradictory to ask God to affirm him in opposing the true church that Christ had founded. That ruined it for me.
Im confused. We televise transubstansiation, but the cameras turn away for the coronation of Charles, cos its too holy????😮. Theres something wrong there???
St Boniface was. from Devon England. He's the patron saint of Germany. Regarding the liturgy to be used tomorrow theyve stripped out key parts. The Apostles creed and the general confession for instance. Theyve canabalised it.
Respectfully Father., Charles rejects the True, One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. If he was Catholic, he would surely go to the Novus Ordo Mass, he is just another part of the cabal of the principles of the new world order. Can you say Papa Bergoglio. If someone believes God wills different religions; that is the definition of an apostate. ie. Rejecting Christianity. . . period.
Im strongly drawn to the priesthood, but I want to be married. Generally I found that catholics think that they are the only body of christ and all other claims to apostolic succession are false. I find that to be a bit strange as I find the schism of the eastern and western churches fairly similar to the split of the anglicans from the roman Catholic Church. I mean can't the anglicans also claim apostolic succession? Seems to me that they are more or less the same, they just have political issues that have nothing to do with God. Other protestants I can clearly see the issue with but I don't see what so wrong with anglicanism. SHOULD I BECOME AN ANGLICAN PRIEST? I need your advice😭
*Wrong.* *1)* There hasn't been a monarch of "England" since 1707, when the acts of union merged England and Scotland together. Anne was the final monarch of England. Since George I in 1714, it has been the monarch of Great Britain, and then the United Kingdom. *2)* The crown used in the Coronation of the King of the UK is not "St. Steven's" crown. It's St. Edward's Crown, as in Saint Edward the Confessor. *The more facts you ignore, the less people will take the rest of your words seriously.* Charles III is the BRITISH King, not the English King.
Looks like he just got crowned Emperor to me. Charles is not Catholic. The coronation ritual is supposed to be his contract with the people to be a protestant Christian King not an Emperor. "You will know them by their fruits". Isn't that Jesus telling us that it is not what they say but, what they do? So, I find it suspicious that the cameras have to be turned away so people can't see what is really going on. Wouldn't that void the ritual contract between the two parties(the people and the king)? The crowns were switched up. Not St. Stephans like you say. It was switched from St. Ewards to the Papal Imperial crown. I was born and raised in the Catholic Church (Latin Church) and even I can see that Charles was just made another overseer for the Pope just like his mother. That is not even the real stone of destiny. It will be interesting to see how many days it will take to break his vow since it only took his mother three days to break hers. So sad to see this being promoted by Catholics against the living people of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales who know well enough who the true King is. P.S. They didn't turn the cameras away at Elizabeths coronation. The priests all just spread their robes around her and did their "anointing." Or as some British call it, "their magic" when they put the fake gauntleted arm/hand on her, so she didn't touch both the goads (rods of justice and mercy indeed) with both bared hands. Who knows why all the baiting and switching is going on for this ritual but, it easy to see why non-Catholics don't trust us.
Catholic bishops did attend but only the Archbishop of Westminster (regarded as the successor of the (Catholic) Archbishops of Canterbury) offered a blessing. The Catholic See of Canterbury was abolished diring the Protestant Reformation.

Church of England is not Catholic. I am just sad that father is trying to connect the Church of England to Catholicism. The Church of England was founded by King Henry VIII in the mid-1500s for two reasons: he wanted a divorce to find a new wife and he didn't want to share power over England with the Catholic Church. I haven't watched not a single British monarchy event on tv in my lifetime because their ceremonies and religion originated from a sinful man. I just don't understand why father even made this video.

There is no need to, the current Mass is fine. If you want Latin as liturgical language and gregorian chant for the music, then you can contact your local Bishop to make it happen. There is no need to change back the rite itself.

It was a protestant service. I hate to break it to you but it only seems catholic because Bugnini purposely made the novus ordo more protestant.
It was not Catholic in any shape or form. A true mockery. An "ecumenical " coronation lol.

YES AND BIDEN CLAIMS HE S CATHOLIC...SHAMELESS WARPIGS
No catholic can be monarch in Britain and king Charles was divorced plus he was seeing kemilla while married to princess Diana
I am aware of that. My point is that King Charles is descended from many Catholic saints. Saint Margaret of Wessex would be praying for him. Are you aware that King Malcolm, her husband, used to be a pagan? But by God's grace, Saint Margaret, she was also Queen of Scotland at the time, converted him to Catholicism and he also became a Catholic saint. King Charles II converted on his deathbed and his brother King James II, another Catholic convert, was the last Catholic monarch of the UK. "king Charles was divorced plus he was seeing kemilla while married to princess Diana". He was divorced and then Princess Diana died. King Charles and Camilla both repented. Princess Diana wasn't exactly innocent either. That is why we pray for people. God urges us to do so and not point fingers. Saint Theresa of Calcutta gave Diana a Rosary while she was alive. She died a sudden death without a chance to repent. We can't judge people like you are doing. We need to pray for people. I am sure that Princess Diana did her dues in Purgatory and now she is in Heaven. Please worry about your own soul before you cast stones. Christ wouldn't be casting stones alongside with you, He would rebuke you and tell you to pray for King Charles and Queen Camilla. God works in mysterious ways. Many people don’t like Camilla. They criticize her very much, but they are wrong. Actually, she is a very nice person, kind and good-hearted. People don’t like what happened in the past and how Camilla came into the Royal Family, but it is all designed by God, and it had to happen. Everything is designed by God, and it is all for a very good reason. You cannot change the course for what is destined for everyone. Ponder on that while you stand in line for Holy Communion this weekend.;
“There is not one drop of blood in me that isn’t Sherman!” - King Edward VIth, Charles great uncle.

The Crown of St. Stephen was the coronation crown of the Kingdom of Hungary and now is on display at the Hungarian Parliament Building.
Pray for Britian's not just England's new king.
Just one correction. The king is crowned with St. Edward's crown, not the crown of St. Stephen.

What we celebrate in the Catholic Mass is the kingship of Christ the King. No comparison to the kingship of Charles III of England.
@@marietta1335 Well. A commemoration of Christ the King in most cases comes a distant second to the reverence which was on display at the coronation.

I hope king Charles III upholds Christianity as he solemnly promised in the UK. Even if he’s not Catholic at least he should uphold Christians who wants to publicly pray and praise God.
There are no problems in UK with Catholics, Anglicans and any sect or protestant religious congregation, We all respect each other.
@@la.x-neverthedodgers Surely as an American you must recognise that wiithout Protestantism there would be no Enlightenment, which was centred in Britain during the 18th century, and by extension no United States. All these Catholics here wishing for an end to Protestantism do so whilst sstanding on the shoulders of protestant giants. As well as the fact that Protestantism itself was formed as a reaction to the egregious corruption endemic in the Catholic church- which still continues - not in the form of purchaisngg absolution from sin, but in the most heinous forms of chilld abuse, paedophilia, that the church has allowed, faciliatated and covered up.

From Elizabeth I (Henry's daughter) to Elizabeth II (Charles' mother), England has been PROTESTANT.
Technically correct. Anglican Orders are invalid in the eyes of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.

Unless a king is Catholic. I'm not interested.
I agree.
I'm so glad King wanted to other religions be represented. I think this is what Christianity is. Unity, peace.
Understanding of course that since King Henry VIII broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in the 1500’s, we must appreciate the fact that King Charles has changed the Coronation ceremony to include multiple faiths for the FIRST time. This is a major step forward.
Excellent. Thank you…
Thank you, father. I should point out that the crown Charles was crowned with is St Edward's crown, not St Stephen's. St Stephen's crown is the crown of Hungary.

“The monarchy will be abolished.” - Words of our Lord Jesus Christ to Friar Elias del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus.
Charlie is Anglican what do catholic's need to know that they don't already know, except maybe that no catholic can be monarch in Britain

Did Catholic clerics participate, or simply attend? There is a big difference. Other faith leaders also were there attending not participating.
Catholic bishops did attend but only the Archbishop of Westminster (regarded as the successor of the (Catholic) Archbishops of Canterbury) offered a blessing. The Catholic See of Canterbury was abolished diring the Protestant Reformation.
Very good job Father! One thing, he is crowned with St. Edward's crown not St Stephan's!
