Just because the Church shows more grace to unbelievers than in times past does not mean We will tolerate These godless manipulators trying to put Us out.

The reason religion declined in the US (at least) was because "the Church" was very _un_ -graceful to nonbelievers. Superstition bred irrational hate.

A repeated mistake in this talk, sadly, is that it is about 'religion', as if all religions are the same. They are not. Some have much more emphasis in their central texts on violent conquest, violent punishments, and other acts illegal in the UK than others.
Religions have some kind of 'back story' that, combined with their group nature (as explained quite well in this talk), provides a motivation for doing things according to the prescriptions of the religion. Then there are the specific prescriptions i.e. requirements for behaviour that are motivated by the back story, etc.
Consequently, good and bad behaviour are not the result of exactly the same thing, inherent to 'religion', as claimed in this talk. The list of behaviour rules is also needed, along with the motivating mechanisms.
Having said that, I do support secularism and the separation of church and state. I just think the arguments used here make some big mistakes in getting to the right conclusion.

The state should be free of religion obviously, but I want to know why you think that religion should be free of the state.

Because state intervention in religious discourse will preclude the existence of equal public space in discussing matters regarding religion.
I live in Indonesia and the state officially recognizes only six religions. Not only that, the 1965 PNPS act dictates the interpretation of religions in public discussion. You are not allowed, for example, to say that Muhammad isn't the last prophet in Islam. This is punishable by law.

Search wiki creator and Buddhism for further reading. Always happy to be educated but do not know of any religion that does not have some god and supernatural elements to it. @@billgreen576 Well, the Bible does teach that you will worship something. So naturally, if not The One True God, then yourself as a god. As the serpent told Eve in the garden, that she can know for HERSELF right from wrong. You have to make yourself a god in order to be ones own autonomous authority. 😀 Is that you?.. Are you making yourself god?
