    I work for a local trucking company and use a Webasto heater like this while on the road (the diesel version of course). We have several decommissioned trucks with these heaters in them, the owner has given me permission to take what I need and so I will be salvaging a unit to use in our RV, all that will be needed is a small diesel fuel tank.

    Hi Brian. Just wanted to let you know. I did a van conversion last year for a friend, and she has the same heater as you do. She recently had a problem that her heater wouldn’t start. She took it to a dealer, and they determined that creosote formed in the exhaust. They blew it out with air, and it took right off. Your exhaust is longer than hers , so you might experience a like problem. It may be because she runs it on low a lot. She lives in her van full time and runs it quite often.
    Great video, Thank You ,

    Thanks, I purchased a Webasto 2000 STC and also could not be happier. It works like a charm.
    Thank you also for posting a local supplier as the genuine Webasto (gasoline) heater is very hard to find. A fellow 🇨🇦 did recommend a supplier in Russia that I got mine from (heaters4you) - at less the half cost of what I could source one in the US or Canada. It took 2 months to arrive via Russia Post/Canada Post with tracking. It was 1 month in Russia and 1 month in Canada as Russia Post has tracking like Fedex you can see every step along its travels😅. Only caveat about Russian Webasto is there is no North American warranty. I wrapped my whole fuel pump with 1/4 neoprene foam insulation and a couple of zip ties that also takes care of the fuel pump ticking. I have only 60 days experience so far, but unlike my old VW gas heaters from the past this heater just works.

    11:22 I've always thought that the heat coming out of the exhaust pipe is wasted heat that could be used by using a heat exchanger to heat the tank of grays or the water in the engine block.
    Starting a cold combustion engine suffers a lot.

      Anything can be accomplished with enough time and money yet these heaters are very efficient and the exhaust may be hot yet... has little volume. BTW, Webasto and Espar make heater models intended to both provide hot air AND circulate warm fluid throughout your RV and engine. Perhaps that would be worth looking into.

    Thanks for the update. I'm going to put one in our Chinook to replace the Suburban that doesn't work and we wouldn't use anyway because of the noise, battery drain and inconsistent heating. I would reconsider taking out your propane heater if you already have it installed. It doesn't hurt to have a backup . We have a catalytic heater for a backup that works for our tiny rig. Happy Trails.

    Great video as usual. I’m surprised that that your install kit didn’t come with the rubber mount for the fuel pump. My Espar D4, Webasto 2000 and my 5kw Chinese diesel heaters all came with the rubber mount for the fuel pump. It really does make a difference when you isolate the fuel pump from the metal frame. I love all 3 of my diesel air heaters in our class A. It’s nice dry heat. No more wet windows using a propane heater. Diesel or gas air heaters are a great upgrade for rv’s.
    Happy travels

    The fan blowing with no heat is a nice feature. Wonder if you were really in a winter climate how it would do? It sure is clean looking if you haven't even opened it for 6 months during your test. Impressive. Your foam addition to stop the ticking/clunking is a win.

  • @stevespawn1
    @stevespawn1 3 года назад +1

    I put the same one in my fifth wheel about three months ago. It is absolutely outstanding. I put it in because I saw your video. It is a game changer saving a lot of money and buying propane for the inefficient RV furnace that comes with RVs these days. I paid about $1100 which is a lot of money for a little dinky heater. However this thing rocks.

    This is great, a solution to my heater problem. the original LP heater stopped working and i had the dealer fix it under warranty, then it went out right before our Texas freeze. That sucked. I was looking at these before but could never find one that ran off of gas. My LP furnace when working is such a gas hog. This seems like a good solution.
    The gas models are hard to find and the one you have is not available just the rotary controlled one. guess i will keep looking. Thanks for the vids. FYI working on my solar i did get the 2 of the 100amp lioncore Batteries waiting for a sale to get the third. just got a Victron DC to DC charger so i can charge the house batteries off the Alternator. We used a similar system to your Webasto - Espar or Eberspracher - while living on our boat, altho' it used diesel fuel. There's much to recommend the dry heat but both brands have historically had issues with their control boards, and that is the central nervous system of the entire installation. In Europe, both brands' diesel fuel versions are commonly installed in recreational boats and commercial trucks and seem to work reliably provided there's adequate DC voltage being supplied. Low voltage is the achilles heel as they can misfire on start up. Brian, given the 'utility company' on your roof and the more benign conditions your RV experiences, you'll probably find this quite reliable.

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  3 года назад

    I’ve had a Camco wave 3 in my van for 1.5 years and I’ve had zero problems. I do always have my fan and windows open do condensation isn’t a big problem. Except during 30 degree weather, which here in California has happened a few times this year, then there’s condensation on but only on sliding door and windshield. I really can’t justify the cost when I only use a heater 3-4 months out of the year and it’s never a constant. Then it get stored until the next year.

    I like that heater and I’d remove the noisy suburban propane heater too. Wish more campers came with it. So many off grid people use it with a good lithium set up. If space was not an issue I may keep propane heat as a back up and keep propane for the stove because I like cooking with gas. Although I am not familiar with induction cooking. If I needed the space I’d ditch propane all together. Make more space for lithium batteries. Nice review 👍🏼

Nobody had an answer, so thanks. But I’m still not clear why the fan runs when it’s not heating? Especially since it’s circulating cool air? Love the padding to prevent the clicks! I’ll do that this summer. Thanks a ton

    I was inspired by the first install review. I removed my propane heater and replaced it with one from eberspecker. I am really pleased with it. But I wish that I had thought to build a shelf for it that removed with the old propane version cover. That way I could disconnect electrical and gas then pull the whole thing out for service attached to the old heater door. I did use the old intake and exhaust port's with connections from a boating supply. I wish I used the water version that heats both the interior and hot water as well as heat the motor block. Witch would also use the motor block to heat when the motor was running. Complicated though?

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  Год назад

      Yes. The heater uses air from the intake to sense the temperature for the thermostat. So the fan continuously pulls in a tiny bit of air to measure the temperature.

    Tito, you have not covered heater operation at altitude (>5,000 ft). I think you’ll find that with prolonged use of the petrol version at altitude, you will coke the combustion chamber without calibration. Perhaps you will return to Washington through Nevada on a leisurely route and be able to give an update?

    Hi Brian, It was a nice video on Webasto diesel heater. I have one question is that, does it requires ventilation to cool the heater? Because you have installed the heater in a closed area, where there is no ventilation.

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  3 года назад +2

      The space isn't totally closed off. The panel where the intake is is open. Plus the heater kind of cools itself but constantly running air through. Even when you turn it off it runs the fan for a few minutes to cool itself down. So far it's been fine.

      You can use any 12V source for power. I don't think it draws more than 6A when initially firing up, then it drops to about 2A. So a 10A circuit would work.

    Nice upload Tito! I'm trying to decide whether to put my battery bank and electrical systems under the twin bed near the Wabasto (driver side), or under the other twin bed on the passenger side. Obviously, it would be easier to get my #4 wires from battery to Orion 12-12 charger on the driver side, but my concern is that the Wabasto output will put out too much heat under the bed where all the systems are. What insulation did you use? I see that there is a product called " Wabasto theroduct insulation". Do you feel like the compartment would be too hot for electrical systems in the winter when it's running all the time?

    I have the Chinese diesel heater. Used 2 winters sofar in New England in Class C full-time. Only problems i had was i had to replace the fan, glow plug came loose and the LCD controller is very fragile. But they are only $20 so I keep a spare. And also a spare glow plug and fuel pump also $20.
    Brian don't remove the LP heater system. You should always have a backup. Especially in colder climates. My LP system happens to heat the underbelly compartments and waste tanks. So it's a necessity.
    Also you can buy 10 China heaters for 1 Wabasto. Infact you can buy a China heater for the price of the Wabasto exhaust pipe. But a gas heater is not available from China. I probably wouldn't trust it anyway. Diesel safer .

    Do you think it would work to install this heater to blow the hot air through the existing furnace ducting? Or would the fan not be powerful enough? Most of the installations I've seen seem to have very short hot air outlet runs so maybe there is a good reason for that.

    • @rickeagle

      Use your existing ducts. If needed, add a duct booster blower.

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  3 года назад

      The model I have works find for two ducts. One is from the original LP. I wouldn't use it for more than that. The airflow would be pretty low. I'd go with a larger model. I stuck with the smaller model to be more efficient. Seems to be working for our rig.
