One of my top 5 musicals ever.. from seeing my first Broadway show in 71 (Company )though the Producers.. this show was simply amazing. I will always remember the joy of seeing my Mother watching the clip with Kathi Moss to seeing the show in person, 4 row center and then seeing it 3 more times! I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!
Rest in 🕊️ Lena Horne 😢
Thanks SO much for all these TONY videos!
Thanks !
Love Nine
Raul was Guido Contini
Wonderful compilation. Amazed who wins best musical 1982. Well deserved though
What a time machine! Interesting that Tommy Tune beat Michael Bennet a person very instrumental in getting Mr. Tune's career on the right track.
Chocolate Souljah I advise you to read this: www.google.pt/amp/s/www.vanityfair.com/culture/2015/09/broadway-battle-dreamgirls-nine/amp
Chocolate Souljah Mr. Bennett was really Mr. Tune’s mentor, however when they found each other face to face their relation turned sour
I enjoyed the years I was the doorman at this production.
The Nine people really were drinking some New Age kool-aid.
❤
love this. What's funny is that the network wouldn't allow Anita Morris singing Call from the Vatican because it was too sexy...yet this song is about young boys being taught about sex....but who cares? It's wonderful...
I'm certainly anything but a prude, but I did come of age when CBS permanently yanked the Smothers Brothers for the following David Steinberg segment (starting at 25:47) dai.ly/x5w8vgb
@@BTKnowMore hahaha...I'm of that age too. I saw this original production 3 times and even bootlegged an audio of it!! When they all came out in white at the end sent the audience crazy. Too bad they messed up the movie.
@@peteralfano4278 do you have audio of the whole show? i would love to listen to it please!
@@chazofalsa Yes I do but it's on a cassette tape (remember those?)
@@peteralfano4278 oh yeah definitely, as 2000s kid i had a bunch of those but there is a way to transfer it to dvd and upload it to the internet. Idk how but considering the technology we have, anything is possible.
What is the song they play under tommy accepting his award
"Getting Tall", a song from "Nine".
According to Michael Riedel's book Razzle Dazzle: The Battle For Broadway, Lena Horne was very disappointed when she had to announce Nine as the winner for Best Musical. She very much wanted Dreamgirls to win, and I agree, since it is the better show.
Nine is objectively a better show
I love dream girls but I think that nine as a whole was a better musical but dream girls had a better movie
Ugh for shame on Lena.
Nine was a very sophisticated show - but audiences got it. Dreamgirls was terrific, but the score for Nine was way better.
@@jochenstossberg5427 Yeah. The lyrics are sophisticated, witty and well-written, I think the score is more memorable than Dreamgirls.
1:26 THIS IS SO CREEPY.....
very.. dirty uncle milty berle
Creepy? It's totally innocent. I think you missed the point.
at 3.28 some woman of the ensemble says "canta, puttana!", meaning "sing, whore!": in Italian it's VERY rude!!!
Michael Bennett did everything he could to stop "Nine" from opening the same season as "Dreamgirls". He couldn't. Then everyone was 1000% Dreamgirls would win Best Musical. It didn't. Karma's a b--ch.
