BD wins so much because they’re really really good at everything. They don’t play the insane brass licks that the average fan can’t follow, they play catchy tunes that stay stuck in your head. They have show concepts that aren’t vague and hard to interpret but rather easy to solve if you do some basic background research. What I’m saying is they don’t rely on ONE thing to bring home the gold. They’re the full package.
Micah the Nerd Saxophonist So your gonna sit there and tell me Metamorph, INK! (Ffs ink), Felliniesque!!!, Dreams and Nighthawks, AND THE BEAT MY HEART SKIPPED ARENT MEMORABLE??!?! yeah. K. Buddy
Micah the Nerd Saxophonist 1992 1994 were such amazing shows it’s where the corps started to blossom into this style. Major changes in style, equipment, showmanship etc.
My wife and I saw their performance in Allentown and OMG were they spectacular. This was my wife's first time ever seeing a DCI competition in person and it brought her to tears (because it was so overwhelmingly entertaining). I marched DCI in the early eighties and have been trying for years to get her out to a show and boy did the BDs deliver.
Vanguard lifer here. I love our tradition.... but I am not afraid to say that the Blue Devils are the future. Look at that opener. That is some next level shit man.
I have to say, this was the best 2019 had to offer. Seeing the Blue Devils go head-to-head with the Bluecoats in PA before the DCI Championship was an emotional undertaking for me.
imagine someone strolling down the street and hearing this while going about their day/night. the next day, they hear the David Glyde Ghostlight (catchy violin/trumpet part) or the low brass part during the opener and it's in their head. They're thinking, "wow what was that person doing with their speakers on so loudly playing some epic soundtracks?". The next day, going to work walking down the same street (because they dont have a car?-) , but the music isn't heard through their ears, but in their head. Imagine having that stuck in your head. For a loooonnng time. It gets distorted but they have such a thirst to listen to it again. I've had this entire show played in my head 24/7 for the past few months. Its amazing. Imagine not knowing what its called and just being tortured with this constantly in your head but you want to know what its called sooooo badly so you can actually listen to it again!! i'd go INSANE. Made more sense in my head. Ya know, English *eyeroll*
I can't believe it's been 2 years since the last time DCI came to Southern. I remember watching the BD live, and the experience is much better in-person than hearing it online. Really hope they do have another DCI event at Southern in 2022
So many salty people because they like Vanguard more or BC more. Why can't anyone have open minds about different drum corps? So what if they win 1st a lot, its just some corps have better shows than others and have better performance runs than others. BD Did deserve that first placement, so did BC, so did vanguard, so did all the other drum corps, all the corps put in all their effort but some more than others. Just have an open mind, maybe then you'll lose the attitude and unnecessary hatred for BD or BC or Vanguard.
I agree with you there. Unless you are competing against them, who cares if they are the proverbial winners. The other corps needed to step up and they have. Everyone has their own preferences, but they need tho recognize a great show when they see one. The repertoire was so difficult to pull off and they did it having fun. I am 35 years removed from my DCI life and love what I see and the direction drum corps is headed.
@@jonathanspray2362 I watched the Bluecoats beat the BDs in Allentown last summer and it was a no-doubter for them. Two weeks later, I felt the BDs outperformed them in the finals.

If you’d notice the title, then you’d realize the music is the same as some ballads they did because it’s the “Ghost of past shows.” Hence the name, Ghostlight.
@@sergiotrevino5555 Thing is, Dreams and Nighthawks was also a Blind Carbon Copy of Metamorph. At this point, they've run out of Ideas.
