- Part One of a series about the Royal Marine Commandos.
I don't know if any more episodes are hiding in my mountain of mouldy old tapes, will upload if I find any.
Narrated by Martin Shaw. Produced by West Country.
According to the internet, "The series followed the Recruit Training of 638 Troop and also AACC 4/92."
The Times claims this series started 17th February 1994, but a preceding football trailer indicates this episode was recorded later, probably on Thursday 24th.
Perhaps broadcast was delayed, or Carlton ran a different schedule.
The football trailer was for Man Utd v. Sheff Wed Coca Cola Semi Final at Hillsborough, 8pm Wednesday (played 2nd March 1994).
From an old VHS SP tape.

.
I used to have the full series on VHS, I joined because of this series.
what happened to that recruit that took his mates rifle?
I'm actually in this episode on the All Arms Course 4/92. Total blast from the past. Class
Did you know Bradley Tinnion? 29 CDO?
@@jackwilliams121 yes, I knew Brad. He was a top bloke. He was 148 bty and I was 79 bty. He then went on to the regiment where he sadly lost his life in Sierra Leone. RIP Brad.
@@phillthomas1947 I met his daughter back in September. Brad has been a massive inspiration to me, I was told he went to my college at one point but that wasn't the case.
Stay safe and take care
@@jackwilliams121 .. Roger that pal 👍
My nephew, Brian hodgson was on that course, unfortunately he has since passed away, if you have any pictures or memories, I’m sure his mother would really appreciate them
Happy to find this I joined in 92 with 644 troop.Fond memories.Like a step back in time.👍🏻 for putting it out.
wow bloody great! this is one of those military series 'lost' in time. I cannot remember if this was a 4 or 6 part documentary. Thanks for uploading and sharing.
Thanks so much for posting, great to see so many old friends on the training teams .
I hope your all well .
RIP Major Lear, you were fantastic in "Behind the lines" ML course documentary 1985, great team of men too, Sergeant Major Shiner Wright and Sergeant Mac McLean 👍
He passed away with cancer
@@Jeffybonbon Yes I did read, such a shame, aged 60, service was in Woodbury 🙏
Been looking for this series for ages as this made me join and serve in the Marines in 98 back when it was 30 weeks training and you got told your going to get beasted till your eyes bleed.
I’ve emailed ITV to see if I can get hold of the full series.
Again, thanks very much for posting this. Bizarrely just started re-reading the 2014 version of the book that comes with this series. On the web, there's many folk trying to find this series
You're welcome.
@@randomVHStat Is this the only part you've got??
The All Arms Course is nails! 9 condensed weeks of pure thrashings, beastings and pain.
Worth it though?
@@james9311 of course 🗡
AACC long since sacrificed on the altar of diversity. Deliberately watered down in 2002 for the ‘obvious’. Anyone who has passed it since circa 2001 has, in a wider view amongst 3 Cdo Bde circles passed a ‘lite’ version of the course.
A terrible betrayal of a once fearsome test piece course.
This is better than that garbage Royal Marine Commando School series.
This is what made me join. What they produce now is shameful
"Commando on the front line "was also a great documentary. Unfortunately "Royal Marine Commando School" was extremely poor.
@@chrisholland7367 bloody embarrassing more like. Heard a few down and up the ranks got a bollocking for that series
@@JayeL617 Have you met anyone who has passed out recently? Or are you just going off what you saw on that show? EX bootie
@@isaacharkton6169 why did they get bollockings?
Thanks for this. I read the accompanying book, so it's great to finally watch it.
This is fantastic, didn't see this at the time, 3/91 AACC June was our course. I would definitely have worked on the Lynx and Gazelles, thankyou very much.."
Been looking for this for so long!!!
Please upload the rest - brings back memories I now realise I have been suppressing for years ;-))). Lol Lympstone looks just as cold, wet and miserable as I remember it.
Fantastic, thanks for posting
Watching Commando brought back so many memories, like the time I accidentally ironed my socks instead of my shirt during training! 😂
If anyone thinks RM finest hour was Falklands, they don't know the incredible history of the Royal Marines.
They don’t know their falklands history. Paras stole the show
they also got caught rooting around in some Falkland grannies knickers draw...
Paras had more action in Falklands
@@isaacharkton6169 probably looking for the marines soiled underpants who surrendered down there !!!!!
@@mikeweston3514 sure did. Why play your b team when u got the Paras !!!
My uncle was in the Royal Marines in the 1950s. Never spoke about it. I honestly had no idea he had gone through training like this.
I was with Cdo logistics at Gol when they filmed in Norway during this series.
The late Maj. Jonathan Lear RM must've been an excellent teacher to have served his Corps in such a wide variety of skills (M&AWC too)!
I remember watching him in ‘Behind the Lines’ ML course, what a firm yet fair leader he was!
Find the rest mate. We need this
I found the rest of them in the marines Facebook page. RUclips how to download from Facebook, and voila.
I have been looking for this for over 10 years. If you have the other episodes please upload them, thank you.
If I find any more episodes on my tapes, I will upload.
@@randomVHStat did you find any more episodes as my best mate is in it I’ve just sent him the link…
@@randomVHStat Did you ever check for more?
Brought back memories. Cpl Archer was one of my training team in 1990, Major Lear gave me my Green lid.
We went through around the same time, I was just ahead of you joining in late '89, JL presented me with my Lid too.
Its good to see the old 4 ton MK Bedford .gone but not forgotten.
I was climbing in Glen Coe last year and met an ex REME VM who'd done an awesome camper conversion on one.
Full kitchen, proper bed, shower and one of the sides dropped down into a 'balcony'. Painted in blue, red and yellow to complete the look.
This was a superb series,,I remember it so well. I wonder if any are still in??
I loved the dig at the paras lmao

Just another jealous hat
@@Calvi36 did you actually serve? I'm not having someone who's been in would be such a princess over a little dig between capbadges. That's everyday life in the forces

I am proud SAF Commando
Salute to British Commandos. love from Philippines
These are the Royal Marines Britain's sea soldiers since 1664 .The commando role originally belonged to the army until it was given to the Marines during the ww2.

@@JammyDodger45 what a beast. Bloody hilarious on a run ashore
@@exmoorfarmer4880 - he was my PTI for IMF and the guy who sent me down the death slide on my Commando Test. A first class bloke. 'Sammy' Samson was my Troop PTI, another awesome PTI but a scary hard bastard!
I hate to say it but the SAS selection course is the hardest one to pass.
Do you mean just the selection phase or the whole package including continuation?

Hostile fish do my head in
Win their blueberry l. Get a grip for Christ's sake l.
Got to love the cabbage crap hats, even in their own training they have to talk about the Airborne.
I'd describe that as having a dig not talking about!
cheeky..
'Spangle', that's a blast from the past.
Please can I steal that and use it as my own?
@@Calvi36 - you're a good egg. Cheers.
